For STEM it is really not dependent on board. My daughter studied in CBSE and got admitted to Caltech with full ride financial aid for Class of 2027. So board doesn't matter as long as you do a lot of extra study, competition, research projects by yourself. Instead of paying heavy IB IGCsE fees ,better utilize those funds to build profile. She did not appear for AP exams as well, she gave SAT and IELTS.

Firstly, super congrats and massive kudos on cracking Caltech, would love to interview your daughter on our channel. It is not either or situation. Every year, students from Indian boards also get admissions abroad. But the pros mentioned in the video remain valid for international boards. Studying in CBSE and applying abroad is double work - you can do it if you want but if you can afford IB, it makes your task easier.

Agreed each child needs to carve her/his own path. As long as you do not make last minute decision to apply abroad and are well prepared it will all be a hassle free experience. Let me check with my daughter about the interview, most likely during the Spring break she can I will confirm

Thats point blank. Both my kids did CBSE till 10th and switched to IB for 11/12th Grade. Writing style, Level of English, amount of effort is much higher for IB, you need a lot of research skills. If you want to keep kids in India better to stay in CBSE board. I am not sure how good IB support in India. My kids study in Singapore hence support is good. My kid did Econ project using equations for Electrons movement in the orbit. It is stressful. For JEE exams even CBSE will not help, you need additional boost from 8th grade to get the kids ready for JEE.

It would be a challenge for kids with CBSE to enter Overseas Unis, IB makes the ride smoother. Eventually all kids come out of Unis be it CBSE or IB. IB kids generally don't like to join indian colleges as the syllabus is mostly outdated and rote learning style. My kids refuse to go back to indian system. JEE exam and many of the entrance exams fall in May when IB final exams start.

How about Cambridge A levels? After A level does he still need to do SAT, TOEFL?

SAT is required by some colleges and for that, you need it irrespective of whichever board you study in school. TOEFL/IELTS is also required.

For students with creative leanings I say no. Drama, Art and Music are so bound up in writing exercises it weighs students down. A-level exhibitions are far better than IB exhibitions as a general rule. IB students have to do their EE, and a Comparative study and extensive writing in their PP. Seeing as the EE will probably be about Visual arts anyway, it seems a bit of an overlap.

@@talratna198Visual art is a vocational skill at the making level. If you wish to study fine art history, or become a university lecturer, teacher or publisher, then yes, IB VA is excellent. Henry Moore, one of the greatest sculptors of the 20th century didn't write about his art. Most artists spend more time making than writing. The good ones anyway.

students can do the extended essay, TOK and CAS on art themes, not do IB visual art, but privately build a very good portfoilio in their own time. It's more focused ( C.S is not really needed ) , and they can get into any unversity they wish.

Yes you can but it is a big shift for the child. Some thrive in it, others struggle. Make sure your decision is well thought out.
