    As a senior who’s in IB I honestly wouldn’t suggest it if you care about your mental health. The process for getting the Diploma is very stressful and the workload can be too much at times, if you are considering talk to ppl who are currently taking it and don’t be dumb like me who chose it for funnies

    @@mariama9890 Yeah of course, I’ll give you all the tips I have! Firstly, you want to set a daily routine. For example, you should have a dedicated time everyday set solely for doing homework. But in all honestly, you’ll probably have very little free times on the weekdays, so a lot of the out of school time you’ll have will be spent doing homework. Second, YOU AND YOUR HEALTH ARE MORE IMPORTANT THAN ANYTHING ELSE. Whenever you are tired, get sleep, whenever you need a day off, take the day off, whenever you need to close your laptop, close your laptop. Third, make a schedule. (I never did this, but I really should have) Fourth, form a classroom gc for every class! It’s so important to have other people in your class to help you out whenever you’re confused with an assignment. Fifth, enjoy yourself and the time you have left in high school! In the end, happiness is the key to success. Lastly, IB will see tough at first, but I promise it gets better. The first semester I barley made all A’s and I nearly burnt myself out every single day. But second semester when I learned all the tricks and how to manage the workload, it became so much easier. In fact, in my second semester, I ended with no grade below a 93. Just give it time, and you got it! Good luck!

    @@fraggie8593 I dont think alot of people in this comment section know what CBSE is. As an Indian, doing MYP or IGCSE in 9th and 10th would prepare you for the IBDP program as the material is very similar and CBSE is relatively easier and has a much different philosophy. If you put your mind to it though, you will be able to do it. You just have to work a little harder and you'll get the hang of it.

    The reality of IB: I’m an IB student in junior year, and let me tell you the pros and cons vary between school to school. Some more established schools have better resources to guide you. While other newer schools have more technology. I am a mostly A student even within IB and these resources definitely pushed me to do better in my schooling. I am doing AP honors and duel enrollment on top of IB program and it is definitely a struggle. My trajectory is predicting I’ll be done with 2 years of college because of this. However your not required to do this much. Also keep in mind that you will be stuck with the same 150 people (the number will go down as people drop) for THE NEXT 4 YEARS. This is a blessing and a curse. You must deal with people that you hate on a daily basis, however you get to be with your friends daily as well. If you are one to burn bridges or have nasty breakups you are in for a shock. If the essays are intimidating you, you shouldn’t be too worried about them. You have lots of guidance when writing them. If the workload is the thing that is intimidating you, be prepared it is worse than anything you can imagine. If you procrastinate you will make it through however you may have high blood pressure from all the stress. It’s a lot I’m not going to sugar coat it. My honest advice: If your on the fence try IB freshmen year. If you hate it, drop quick. If you get to the end of sophomore year and you’re struggling/regretting it, drop. There is NO SHAME in dropping IB. Most upper class men would even congratulate you from dropping because you avoided further struggling. Once your in Junior year your into deep. If you drop the program past Junior year it’s like all the bone breaking work went to waste. You get experience I suppose but experience in high school won’t get you into college. Another thing to consider is your career. You don’t have to figure everything out now but do you even want to go to college? Or do you want to go to trade school? Lastly, are you able to cooperate with people you hate? Trust me this was the only thing that I was not mentally prepared for when entering IB. I thought all 150 of us would be BFFs for ever. SIKE! it’s like the hunger games in IB. All the individual sects of people working against eachother, and gossiping. Everyone knows EVERYONES dirt. If you have a rough break up, half the school will take your side the other your ex’s. And the whole school will jump from drama to drama every week or so. There is more drama in IB then the traditional program. Well good luck to all of the potential IB students who are reading this! Feel free to ask me questions if you need it :D

    I don't ussually comment but thanks for this, it really did help. At my school IB is only junior/senior year and literally everyone I talk to try to convince me not to do it. I'm pretty set on it, though I am worried about the effect it'll have on my grades. Up till now, I've taken all advanced classes and a few AP (currently a sophomore) and my averages are mostly 99s and 100s, with a 98 or two. Are there any trends that you've noticed with how much people's grades drop with IB?

  • @lizzynothere3788

    @lizzynothere3788

    Жыл бұрын

    @@erudite7884 It depends on your classes, and how much you are willing to work. Since your school doesn't do pre-IB the first semester may be a shock. however, you could probably do it. My advice to you is to choose 3 SL classes and 3 HL classes (my school requires it, but some let you take more HL classes) DO NOT and I repeat DO NOT take any more than 4 HLs. Pick your HL classes very meticulously. I personally love English bio and art, so I went with those as my HLs. Also, IB is similar to AP with more of a workload. If you can handle 6 APs with decent scores, you should be fine, however it's not easy. For me, my grades went from a A+ range to a B+ - A range but it's mostly due to my poor study habits (and because I want to have a life and have fun too lol). I never had to study before IB (even in my AP classes) and welp- that caused my grades to drop. But in the end, I think it's all going to be worth it. I hope this helps :D

    I’m a high schooler and I’m in the IB diploma program and on my last year and my honest answer is NO, mostly because it’s entirely based on a series of domino effects meaning if your not good at one thing you won’t get your diploma, If your not good at speaking French you Fail, not good at Advanced Biology you fail, your not good in Advanced Math then you fail, if your good in everything except one you automatically fail, not to mention IAs for every single class and if you fail 1 you fail them all, and not to mention cast hours for community service, good luck finding reliable ones during a pandemic and you fail anything you fail everything so don’t take it seriously, getting into IB was honestly the worst mistake I made because now I’m trapped and can’t escape do me a favor and just take all honors, Maybe an AP or 2, and don’t look back

    I agree with you and I mean it is like so much but there are benefits like for example you might get into the same college as some people that took ib but one of the major benefits is that u can skip a whole year for college and go straight to sophomore year but I mean after all I don’t rly know which one is better to do it or not. I’m a sophomore rn and going to junior year next year so I have the choice of taking ib but I’m honestly not sure at all. I’m not sure if it’s really worth it or not.

Do you look at I.B. as the same status as A.P. or a bit above/below? Where do you fall with your guidelines regarding students who are in I.B. and A.P. programs in high school entering college? @Grace Duggan I chose early college haha or if I wouldn’t have gotten into the early college high school I have in my city then I wouldve done ap and dual credit because you can get WAY more credits doing these two, and it didnt work for me because the amount of credits wouldn’t even make up for the amount of work in ib. And since I really do not care about going to an ivy college or a college not in my city or state, then in wouldn’t benefit me as much. So I would choose ap and dual credit.but if you want to go to a school outside of your home town or to an ivy then I suggest taking IB. But at the same time ap and dual credit can also help you get into a college easier.
