For new buyers, the slim is the better option. For the owners of the old model is no reason for the "upgrade".

Wasn’t a better option for me. I like being able to play my consoles straight out the box. I like the idea of connecting to internet being optional and not mandatory so I went for the original🤷. That whole having to register your disc drive is all fun and games when it works but I’ve already seen people dropped out off their games with notifications forcing them to re register their drives. Bugs happen. That’s not a bug you want to have😂.

@@Loophole23742you don’t have to connect to the internet to play the ps5. You only need to connect to register the disc or sign in to you online account. literally only one time. I’ll say that again ONE TIME. After that, you are free to play as many offline disc games for as long as the ps5 may last you. It took me not even 1 minute to register and guess what… I don’t have to worry about it ever again in my my life want to know why? Because why in the hell will I be disconnecting my disc drive 😂

My overall excruciating pain, anxiety and excitement when I first got the PS5 back in December 2020 was something else. If you’re gaming hard for more then 4 hours , you should buy a fan and keep it out of a selve cause dust cause it’s made cheaper with the dust protection, if u plan on getting dust and putting it in a entertainment stand leave the door open and always every 3 days get a vacuum and clean and wipe it from dust build up

This is actually the 4th revision of the ps5 2020 - 1000 model 7nm 4.5kg 2021 - 1100 model 7nm 4.2kg 2022 - 1200 model 6nm 3.9kg 2023 -- slim model 6nm 3.2kg If you have a 2020-2021 ps5 might be worth upgrading to the slim or the larger 2022-23 as they use 6nm soc over the original 7nm which has better thermals/smaller power draw To see which version you have look under the base of the console should have a number that starts cfi-1/0-2

@@m4b9it’s probably not, except there were reports that the first batch ran very hot and the reason is the 7nm. So only if that bothers you, I suppose. There are minor differences so not literally the same at all, and if you have a choice for a new PS5 the new one is a no brainer. But it isn’t worth upgrading, I agree. I suspect a few commenters are trying to make themselves feel better about getting the OG recently…

Lol it’s not worth upgrading for launch day owners. In Canada these things are $800 with taxes like on launch day. That’s $1600 in 3 years for the exact same performance, better off going to pc for that price and never pay that $200/year plus membership fee.

Slim is more beneficial to Sony. Not the consumer. Cheaper plastics, less to manufacture. Not to mention the heat sink is on the exact opposite side of the M.2 SSD which can be future problems. The slim model is louder… just doesn’t add up.

I will have had my OG PS5 for 3 years come January 2nd. I have had 0 problems with my PS5 and see no reason to upgrade. Fun fact my slim line PS3 which is 12 years old still works perfectly!! :)

My partner just bought the old one, because she likes the looks of the ild one better (the disc drive hump is more integrated into the design) and because of the different sideplates you already have. (The Spiderman sideplates like really good imo)

For new buyers the slim is the best option. For owners of the original you can make that slight upgrade for it to be smaller with more storage (if you want)

I got the original and I love the design! I use it in horizontal display mode, I have the space for it and don't really move it around all the time so it's perfect for me

As always with something that doesn't offer performance gains; buy if you don't have one, or your current one is somehow broken. Don't buy if your current one is doing fine. I have an original ps5, and I haven't even slightly considered it, and that's fine.

my question is which design will be synonymous with the PS5 in the end. the OG PS3 for example is obviously the most remembered one but with the PS4 the Slim model is iconic. no-one remembers the OG. so idk if getting the PS5 OG I'll be embarassed when the Slim starts to circulate and be seen as the norm and the fatter one is the "disabled" looking model, or the inefficient-with-its-space model

Im just now getting my first PS5 since I was waiting for BFriday deals and my sister decided she was going to buy it for me instead for Christmas. Saw the slim was out and everything looked the same except for the slightly larger storage space so decided to go with that one since the Digital Spiderman game will be taking up room anyway. Glad to see that there doesn't seem to be any other real difference. The size, weight and look don't matter to me since I don't move it around.

@@MichaelGalianov the Wi-Fi has a higher max speed than most routers allow for Ethernet. Most routers these days are 1 gigabit - the base model ps5 has 5gigabit WiFi, skin has 6gigabit Wi-Fi. Your modem and Routers need to support it though. Most moderns and routers these days support WiFi 5 and top out at 1gigabit Ethernet.

I got a slim a couple months ago (currently play both Series X and PS5) and I love it. It doesn't run too hot (but I also have it very well ventilated), and I'm happy with its overall performance.

The "slim" is louder from what I've seen. It's pretty obvious it's got cheaper components in the slim to cut production costs down. They also over engineered the original PS5 and you have more expensive components (copper heatsink) I'm happy with the phatty. I was always cautious of the system being smaller with a detachable disc drive being louder makes sense

Where did you see those reports? mine is quiet and I’ve not noticed the fan kick in much if at all. All tests I’ve seen and read say it’s just as quiet and the temperature is the same. The PS5 Slim reported temperatures between 60 and 63 degrees, similar to those of the standard model. It also has an extra heat pipe and redesigned thermals. If they were cheaping out they wouldn’t have used the same Liquid Metal to keep it cool and would have used the cheaper thermal paste. Nor do any reports say it’s louder or that the fans start up more as it has a redesigned new 19 blade fan. You can bet if it did there would be many KZreadrs reporting it for views, and lots of complaints on social media. But there hasn’t been. Yours is the first I’ve seen and you don’t own one. It has the same 6nm SoC as later batches of the PS5 so runs just the same, but a little better and cooler than those OG PS5s with the 7nm.

This is true. I have exchanged 2 slims. First one had a Nidec fan, the second had a NMB fan and it was quieter however my friends og phat ps5 was definitely quieter when we did some testing. So I will personally be exchanging my slim again for a phat ps5.

They have made the slim pretty well but it's known they have used cheaper components to keep the production costs down.

I think the biggest plus of this slim version is the ability to change the disc drive, because if you use it regularly it will die sooner or later. Having the opportunity to change the thing when it ends it's lifetime is a really good thing.

Well now my question is, doesn’t the PS5 not really use the discs? I know you put the disc in once and then it can/needs to download the game from it. But then from there on out all it does is some super brief check to make sure the disc is inside so people don’t share infinite game copies. So I’d think that even playing a lot of disc games would not increase the wear and tear that much, at least not like it used too. They definitely just fail in general though overtime, especially after that recent incident with Sony deleting the shows people had outright bought on the store making sure we keep the physical stuff still going is really important

Worth to note that i ended up buying a Stand because the PS5 Slim would vibrate my whole desk when installing a game or anytime using the disk. So unless you have a padded desk or something to put it on just know it vibrates you desk like crazy!

can you review the speed of the SSD's in both PS5 OG and Slim? some say the SSD on slim is a bit slower than the OG

I got an original PS5 like 3 months ago so just before the launch of the slim, and I think it definitely looks better and storage isn't a problem for me. I got the disc so the detachable drive means nothing to me and I have space for the PS5 in both of my setup areas. Plus the stand is free and is higher quality than the others. I like that I got the original.

I just purchased a new ps5 from best buy last month cause it’s still the post 2022 revised model and personally I kinda love the big size and display mine horizontally. This is my 1st ps5 and the redesign pushed me to finally go grab one. I absolutely love it and I would hate it if it was smaller or didn’t have those awesome looking vents. I’ll the big model all day long I think it’s truly the best ps5 imo size and all.

Yeah if you use the PS5 as you main entertainment unit for movie streaming, blu-ray and gaming then it's cool that it looks so commanding and powerful. If it's alongside some of your other stuff in your tv unit then it's a bit annoying that it's so big.

@@TheSuperPsychoKiller if they do a pro (big if, only reason 4 got a pro was to deliver 4K and juice sales to a bustling 4K tv market, there’s no signs of 8K being anywhere near that anytime soon) then it will likely just be in either the previous 5 casing or the new slim one. If you don’t like either of those, doubtful the pro would do anything to resolve that.

There are vents on the side of the ps5 slim. I think people keep forgetting this so when you stand it up you are covering up vents. The stand is needed.

I just grabbed an OG PS5 from my local Best Buy 3 days ago because I wanted an OG PS5 from the start and I like having physical copies of my games for my consoles. I personally don’t like the new slim’s design.

i purposely brought the original model over the slim. I just prefer the look. I hate the look of the new cheapy lazy plastic stand pieces and also the slit through the covers with glossy on one half and matt on the other. I also dont like the money grabbing tactic of forcing you to buy a vertical stand instead.

I was waiting for the slim because I dog sit at others houses so it will fit in my backpack.

Possible that the slim is more reliable with the smaller chip and more efficient cooling. Probably not PS3 Phat vs Slim levels of difference, sure, but still worth noting

The reason why you shouldn't use it in vertical mode is because the (thermal paste?), or I think it actually some kind of liquid metal, is over time going to pool to one side of the cpu and cpu cooler. Leading to eventual damage to the cpu. Or atleast so I've heard.

I did hear this myself and it seemed to be an a very minor issue on the OG 2020 model when they revised the model for 2021 and 2022 this was changed slightly to make sure it wouldn’t be an issue I think the 22 model is the better console even over the new slim I wouldn’t bother buying one the 22 models were looked at in depth and Sony really done everything they possibly could to make it perfect I also have 3 year warranty on mine meaning if it become slow or any other issue I would get a new model unfortunately that would mean a slim model but still I’m covered regardless just always get some warranty or insurance

OG is garbage with heat distribution, the new one handles heat so much better.

Every Playstation I've had has always been the original and all (including my original PS2) still work perfectly today. Meanwhile my mates that had the slim lines have been through multiple over the years. Could just be coincidence of course but I'll always prefer the original barring some crazy defect.

My gf just got one yesterday and she’s already had an issue where every 30 seconds it would randomly go back to the Home Screen. She checked all her Bluetooth devices but ultimately just had to hard reboot the system. I know it was a small issue but for a while she was fuming that she had to deal with something like that after spending so much money on the system, Assassins Creed Mirage, and a 2nd controller. She was 2 seconds away from returning it all.

@@justinhalen2126 The purpose of the removable drive is to keep the PlayStation alive when the first one burns out. Unfortunately the internet requirement means that whenever that time comes it will likely not be possible anyway due to switched off servers. The pricing is as such that it doesn't make sense for people to buy digital slim over physical so the easily swappable drive serves no benefit here. It's a gimmick.

If you have a console for a long time and play it enough, disc drive will burn out no matter what. At least with removable disc drive, should be easier to mechanically swap parts. If servers really are shut off 20 years from now and you are at a point where you still want to play, I’m sure there will be programs to hack old PS5s by that point in time to remove the pairing requirement

It’s the same price as the original ps5 for Black Friday. Their both $499 with the bundles

Thinking of long-term game collecting, the fact that the slim requires an online check to activate the drive is a huge red flag to me. Online services are extremely fragile so hoping that the community can figure out to do it without a Sony server. Will it be an actual problem? Hard to say, but something I'd watch out for.

At list price the new model is a no brainer. You can always convert it to disk/digital whatever configuration you start with, so it will be easier to resell. And it is the latest and greatest, so it will fetch higher prices along the way.

Just ordered my PS5 Slim today, I found it at a discount for the same exact price as a regular PS5 so why not, the performance is the exact same and it has more storage. Plus being slimmer and lighter is a plus for me.

I wonder if the back hdmi and usb port changes on this model will fix all the lan port issues we had with the old version?

GameStop gave me about $380 for my OG, no brainer upgrade to get Spiderman 2 and double the storage.

i have a dumb question. What happens when u remove the disc drive and want to keep it removed? Is it just exposed or does the white exterior shell still cover it without the disc drive in? Im wondering because isnt the white exterior bulged out….meaning its permanently meant to cover it with the disc drive attached?

Not a dumb question. If you buy the digital version it comes with a cover. If you buy the disc version it comes with the disc drive in place of the cover. If you want to remove it you’ll need to purchase the cover separately. I’m not sure if they are offering them yet though.

Don't you need a network connection to verify your detachable disc drive on the new PS5 version? In the long run the outcome of which version to have could be different. Right?

It took me two years to finally get ahold of an original model PS5 at retail price, and since the warranty has expired, I've started having major issues with it. I've had it to a repair shop twice. Once for the HDMI port and once for overheating issues that turned out to be the result of leaking thermal compound. I have to buy a new controller too, because both sticks drift. Mind you, I take exceedingly good care of my stuff and the system hasn't even seen 100 hours of use since I bought it.

It could be that you just genuinely did get unlucky with a unit that somehow slipped through the net in a bit of a dodgy condition it does happen with almost every electrical device from what I’ve seen majority of people have no issues at all even after 2 years which I’m pretty sure a unit like this should last 10 years with good care I got my PS4 back in 2014 and it still works completely fine apart from noise and it getting slightly hot it’s perfect also I still have the original controller which I’ve used since 2014 I never had to replace it once I won’t ever get rid of it either I’ve got an attachment to it and I’m still mad I gave away my ps3 my best friend has it so I’m hoping I can just buy it back off him because it was a massive part of my childhood and with them all being Christmas presents they hold I guess sentimental value to me if that makes sense but I’m sorry you had to deal with all that bro I feel you I’ll be praying mine holds up and does me well

I definitely will take the older model any day of the week. I’ve owned a disc version for the past year and I love it, still going very strong with very little issues. They may be heavier than this new model but it gets the job done and I like the one plate design, looks and feels a lot smoother while this new model looks really tacky with the split plate design to it, seems like Sony was trying to do a little too much.

@@Texasguy316 I’ve had my disc version PS5 for a year, so there’s nothing really I’m trying to justify here.

I just have the ps5 slim (with disc) on my media unit without any issues, also no kids or pets. I don't see it falling over as it's wedged between the TV and speaker. Though I didn't think about the weight being on the cover being an issue. I doubt it, but just in case I put some small rubber glue on feet on the bottom that fills in the space perfectly so there is less weight on the covers but the covers do touch still. The only thing I can think of for the vertical stand is that it muffles some of the disc noise/rumbling but it doesn't seem to have any type of rubber or foam anywhere to attenuate the sound so, meh

I want the smaller form factor and front USB-C is important to me since I'm trying to make as many things C-C as possible so the new one seems perfect for me

I've got the original launch model. This new slim doesn't seem like much of an upgrade, plus I prefer the look of the OG model.

Giving that the original ps5 is £90 cheaper ( thanks to a Sony promotion) here in the uk in all retail stores, this makes getting the original a no brainer

I bought the disc version at the price of the digital version and I am happy with the console 😎 no need for slim anymore yeah slim gives 150 gb extra but I have external harddrive which is coming handy now all I need to move games that's all

This one of them videos where I could swear Google was reading my brain. And I am all for it.

Given that they removed the vents/grills on the ‘slim’ I’m wondering how this will affect dust build up. The grills do a good job of reducing the dust build up between the plates and the console. Now that the front and top are completely exposed on the slim there’s nothing stopping dust getting straight into the fan. There also doesn’t seem to be any ‘dust catcher’ holes that you can vacuum dust out of like the previous models had. I’m wondering how this will affect maintenance and the longevity of the new design.

I gave that thought as well, and that's one of the reasons I went with the ps5 with vent/grills. The less dust in it is better, and I see this one down the road having that problem and most likely them making model with the vents/grills.

@@bpowick again it doesn't matter the size of the hole/grills dust will still get in your PS5. Having that wide open actually helps the PS5 breathe better. those grills are also getting clogged with dust and actually causing them to over heat and be one more thing you have to clean. But hey you do you.

@@shakes.816 I have a PS5 (launch day) model. I played for about a year and left it in my room to collect dust since then. Recently, I opened it up to clean it as I wanted to clean it before playing FF16. The inside of it and the fan was 100% clean. The grills do a decent job of catching a lot of the dust, per my experience. Obviously miles may vary.

Just going to get the original ps5. No performance increase and you can buy more storage cheaper

Use the vertical stand! Especially for the og PS5, it pushes out a lot of heat from the bottom.

I'm obviously too lazy to walk five feet and look under my PS5, but I believe the original model had vents on the vertical bottom, and using the stand in Tower mode was recommended so as not to block airflow.

The old answer would be the launch version. It has since been through what 2 or 3 internal changes

I had the fat one last year I got it in January, but I moved so I sold it for extra money...just got the slim a week ago and I'm happy with it, very nice design

These consoles are going the PC route, it really makes no sense to buy a console anymore. I’m a PS fan since the original and own them all from the 90’s to today and consoles were always about cheap quick gaming. Throw in the disc and go, but today it’s totally different and cost more in the long run than a PC. In cdn we’re paying almost $800 for a PS5 with taxes and the PS plus membership is now $200/year. In the first year of ownership your at $1K. Add this up over a 7 year console lifespan and now your at $2200. That’s a steep price to pay for how low the performance is on todays consoles, their still only running on the old RDNA2 architecture with gen 1 ray tracing and can’t even give us 4K@120hz. The console struggles to give us 4K@60 and comes to a complete grind when we enable ray tracing. Yes it’s a decent console like the Xbox, but the cost to performance is way out to lunch and you can build a much better pc for the total operating cost of these consoles. The worst part of all this is the fact that you need some form of plus membership just to play online and the price just keeps going up and up for something that’s 100% free on pc even on the same multi platform games. Plus is really nothing more than a game trial service as we never own those “free” games (their not free lol) and get removed all the time without notice. Meanwhile on PC we can try out any game on steam for 2hrs absolutely free with no membership fees. We also get demos on pc and of course no multiplayer fees of any kind. The worst thing I’m seeing more and more is how Sony milks console users with each generation. So many people bought GTA5 3 times for PS 3/4/5 while on PC we get free graphic updates and simply move our sliders. Their doing this with so many games and refuse to unlock sliders in our consoles, it’s nuts buying a game 3 times and when you start adding up all the games you re purchased the total operating expense climbs much higher than $2200. Sony should’ve had an RDNA3 machine by now but even that is only gen 2 ray tracing but at least the cost to performance would be worth it. On PC we’re on gen 3 ray tracing and it doesn’t cost all that much to get in to a nice 4K or 1440P rig. By the time Sony release their pro machine we’re gonna be on gen 4RT in the pc world while their still generations behind. Once people really see all this and start doing the math I don’t see consoles surviving to long at those rates. It makes no sense to fork over that much for something that’s generations behind in architecture. RDNA2 is AMD’s 6000 series GPU’s and those are dirt cheap right now since nobody wants them due to their poor RT performance. The days of consoles are numbered if they keep on this path and exclusives won’t save them since those wars ended years ago. More and more developers stopped that exclusive nonsense after seeing how much they lost in sales, yes there are still a few exclusives but even the old ones are getting ported to pc. I laughed when I seen uncharted on PC, that was a Sony exclusive and never would I have thought Sony would let that go. My favourite PS game and bought that day 1 for my PC.

& the slim isn’t for everyone . People have both and like both I own both , the slim has more of a new look and feeling and the OG does too . OG is a unique antique I understand it likes nice . But both slim and OG people who have both like both of them like me

If I didn’t already own a PS5 then I’d only buy the slim but otherwise it’s definitely not worth the money since it’s not an upgrade and with the “rumored” pro coming out next year or maybe 2025 it’s just not worth it.

I have always been the slim model advocate but this time around without any major improvement on the chip efficiency front I rushed to the mall and got my self the OG ps5 and I recommend the same for any one looking to get the ps5. Buy the OG while stock lasts. You know there are no corners cut on it.

What are you talking about? The performances are literally exactly the same. The only differences are the slim being smaller, having more storage, more usb c, and not having to worry about you hdmi port melting over time.

Facts. Lemme clear this up: The ps5 slim has smaller fan, heatsink and airflow, that's the issue. My Og Ps5 doesn't even make any noise! I play Spider-Man 2 for hours and still doesn't make any noise.

The horizontal stand look reminds me of a cliff side mansion.

The only problem I see is those tiny legs to place the console horizontally, which is my preferred way to place any console. I wonder if there are 3rd party better stands for this new PS5 console model. Thank you for your video.

I think the older model looks better

PS5 (slim) has a 1TB SSD and the disc drive can be replaced if it fails over time.

I have one I didn’t have a ps5 before I wouldn’t necessarily suggest upgrading if you already have an OG ps5. Keep the horizontal stands on otherwise you’re probably gonna to lose it

People kept expecting so much out of this when they didn’t realize sony never really made it out to be no less than a revision on the old model. That is all. So alot of people are upset about this, which I understand, for the wrong reasons. Nobody should go into this expecting so much more out of it when sony didn’t intend for much of that. Side note: I’m glad I’m not the only person who always likes to wear their beanies😂

I have the OG Ps5 yes its bigger but it doesn't matter its the best Ps5.

I'm Wondering myself, I got the ps5 original and am now on the fence and wondering if I should swap it out with the slim, or stay with the original ps5, I dunno if I should stick or twist

The cooling block in the slim, is it still the same size? or is it much smaller and less cooling like other channels have shown?

To me, the original looks beautiful, so I went out and got it.

They moved the HDMI port, so you do not unplug the HDMI while the PS5s power cord is plugged in. Less chance of a HDMI short.

How is it a better deal? In my country the old model is on sale ( guess worldwide) with an extra controller or extra game or just the barebone. And the barebone old disc model is 140 bucks less than the slim disc model. I can use that extra money to expand on the hard drive.

personally I would still buy the original or the "slim". I think the original just look more sleek for me and I like the heft to it. the " slim" just looks like a knock off. I dont like the 4 plate look or the dics drive shape.

the missing fan grill (the stripes alongside either side) and the wide open gap in its place is ugly AF for me. I can deal with everything else. the black being glossier does look cheap tho.

Target has the older model bundle with Spiderman 2 for $50 off through 12/24. I just purchased one, and saved another 5% for using my Red dot card. That was a total savings of $72, so needless to say I purchased the larger older model for that deal.

Don't like the glossy panels. My PS3 scratches when the dust kicks in. Would this one be different?

Why would you wear your cap indoors? It looks pretty warm and cosy wherever you are.

For the tiny stands that come with the ps5 slim, they should made a small compartment for you to store the little plastic stands so helps not to lose them

If you need the smaller sized system, then go for it, but remember if you find the OG one for a little cheaper, you can add a cheap but fast gen4 M.2 drive for an extra £40-60. If a base PS5 costs $420 and the Slim costs $499, you could actually get the base PS5+1tb additional SSD for a PS5 with 1.85tb of storage instead of a 1tb slim version.

I dont know if it makes to anyone out there and I also dont care but my purchase decisison looks like this Lighter means less metal Less metal means more heat More heat means faster fan faster fan means more noise and dust over time.. More dust means shorter life. Am I willing to take a console that is cheaper to produce but cost me the same as the no corners cut version for only 150 gigs more hdd but no stand included. I am happy with my purchase of the OG in November 2023 at CAD 649 Also the bundled Spider-man game made it worth all the wait.

I have seen the old PS5 on sale very cheap. I would get the new one if the price was the same or close to being the same, but I don't think it's worth a substantial higher price.
