Bought our dog from someone in the countryside for 300$. 2/3 husky 1/3 labrador. As soon as we arrived, we saw the mom just trotting towards us, calm as can be, we petted her and she trotted strait back to the backyard to her pups. We instantly knew we wanted one. And just like her mom, a total angel. Our neighbours didn't even know we had a dog until they saw her because she was so well behaved. 11 years old now and she's never been sick except for a small cough as a pup. Couldn't ask for a better dog.

I had gotten a Staffordshire terrier from a backyard breeder, and had him for 13 yrs. He actually just passed away, but he was always amazing with everyone, so calm and gentle, never barked, never tensed up once around the children we eventually brought into the world, but protected us when someone broke into our home. Idc what they say. I'll keep buying my puppies from local backyard breeders, with young children, someone who loves their family dogs and the overall love for the breed. Someone who does first vet vistits, but doesn't have awards and extensive bloodlines.

Hes talking about dogs that are bread for a job. Aka pitbulls were bread to fight. So you gotta be careful who you get them from or they can be a mixed bag of extremely poor genetics. Not all "backyard breeders" are bad but its a risk you take when you cant see the parents and the lineage of a working prospect dog. Or a breed that tends toward dominant and assertive attributes

My neighbor that lived across from me had two dogs, a male and a female, Colt 45 and Bossie. She had a litter of puppies. He came to me one day, asked me if I wanted to see the puppies. I said yes I'd love to see the puppies. I went over to his house, he picked up a puppy and handed it to me. He said to me this is your puppy. He said you need her. And I looked at the puppy, that puppy looked me straight in the eye so, I asked her what her name was. The name Tesla popped into my head right then and there. That is her name to this day. I still have her. She is now 5 years old. She came home with me when she was 10 weeks old. I worked really hard training her. She knows over 30 commands and even some hand signals. The reason why he gave her to me, was because he knew I was in a bad place at that moment. About 8 months before I got my pup, my husband of 35 years passed away from cancer. I was having a very tough time dealing with it. Let's put it this way, I was pretty much thinking of suicide at that moment. I did not want to be here anymore without my husband. And my friend saw that. But that puppy saved me. She gave me purpose. She pretty much gave me my life back. Gave me something to do and something else to think about. She's the best dog I have ever had in my whole entire life. She is a Staffordshire terrier. I knew her parents. They were great dogs. My friend has since passed away and so has Colt but Bossie has a new home. Right now, she's living the life.

My sister got a staffy pup from a rescue centre. She already had a staffy. It’s genetics were a bit off with a narrowed Trachea and extra toe (no joke) and she had been badly treated. Anyhow, my sister wanted to do some good. Turns out it had massive behavioural problems. She spent on fortune on behaviourists to no avail. It was biting people and on Friday it attacked her other dog. Took a lump out of its chest and ripped its ear. On Saturday she had to be put down by order of the vet based on the injuries that she caused the other dog (who is going to be ok but required surgery). She was only a year old. I have never been in the presence of a dog that I thought was as dangerous as this. It’s behaviour was totally unpredictable. One minute she was really sweet and the next she wanted to eat you so be careful folks from one very sad experience.

@@babyamber1657 Yes, you can put your dog on anti-depressants if they have anxiety. Speak to your vet. The dog that had to be put down was on them for anxiety / fear issues but they warned that they would not change behavioural issues, they would just calm her and make her more responsive to command when training her as she would be able to focus. They are naturally a highly strung dog but definitely speak to your vet. You can also get plugins for your walls that release a scent to help calm them. It sure whether you have tried them?

I bring my mom who's a reputable vet for 30 years and has been interviewed on TV who use to breed dogs. If she doesn't like the dogs and we can't meet the parents then odds are I'm not getting the dog. Being a vet you've gotta know all the different dog behaviours which can vary breed too breed and having someone who can point out the health problems the parents have within a minute is very useful. Got a alaskan malamute now and compared to most she is perfect, years ago a incident happened where a neighbours quest tried to claim my dog attacked her but the reality of it was her dig was on a extended leash and kept running around her, she called animal control and tried to have my dog put down. Animal control came, walked in expecting a 120 pound dog to try and kill them but were very happy to get greeted with a big happy face, a sit and a shake paw. They said she's the best malamute they've ever seen, now thanks to that girl if anything happens 2 more times my dog will be labeled aggressive. People are shitty.

Breeding my lab/Weimaraner with my catahoula/corso mix. I’m a hunter and live in a small country town, already have 15 people that have given me money for shots when I have the pups. I don’t breed for looks or money. drive, nerve, overall energy is all we look for in dogs. Mixing has always resulted in healthier dogs with less allergy and longer lives. Family has always bred border collie/catahoula for herding dogs but as a hunter I decided to take it a different route. I’ve given puppies to friends, and locals I just have them cover shots and they’ll typically leave a tip for the pregnancy costs. Parents are both healthy as can be, and perform better than any purebred I’ve owned. Less vet trips for small things too

Our first dog was a white lab from a small backyard breeder in our village who gave it to us as a gift. He wasn't trained at all but that's because my father didn't have much time to train him. We had to put him down in June at 15 years old. Now we got a new puppy who is a brown lab also from a backyard breeder and we paid 300€ for him and he's absolutely amazing.

I am from Europe and its a years old, Well known Problem with Money hustling Backyard breeders, they even import puppies from other countries to sell them here. The puppies are mostly way to Young, Not vaccinated, sick, Bad genetics, emotional and social trainwrecks because of their catastrophic upbringing and the new owners have to Invest a Fortune in vets and trainers- If the dogs survives at all. But These "breeders" are professionals, maybe like puppy Mills. You can get very lucky with normal people whose Dog Just Had an "accident" or they did just want the puppy experience, whatever, but If they Care for their dogs, their socialization, health and Future, you can get lucky. But you will never know what you get. I don't say that every Kennel Club breeders are perfekt- they've ruined way to much breeds for their standarts- but especialy with working and very popular breeds one should be very careful from where you get your Dog.

@@liltrump799 I am aware of the difference, I even compared this Kind of breeders with puppy Mills. A Backyard or private breeder can be very caring and insightfull with the breed and their puppies, but this isnt common. A friend of Mine got a puppy from a Backyard breeder, First time Dog owner, single Mom, a toddler at Home. She got a Mix from presa canario, Staffordshire Terrier and Dogo Argentino. The Dog was thank gods friendly, Well socialized and good tempered, but bored Out of His mind and destroyed her Apartment, because the owner couldnt give him what he needed. He was healthy, vaccinated and certainly a great Dog ( otherwise this could have gone FUBAR in No time), but this Dog should never been in this Home. Same for a Weimaraner in a first time Family with children , a Garden and No Intention to ever Work or Walk this Dog... This poor Dog was so frustrated and agressive, the whole neighboorhood was afraid of him. He was vaccinated and healthy to, but the breeder couldnt give a shit to whom He Sold His Dog, and gave him into a life of misery. You can buy from a Backyard or hobbybreeder, but you have to be incredibly careful which Kind of breeders you want to Support with your Money

A trainer could fix him right up, but that's extremely difficult as he will not take food or treats from strangers. My only other option is to put him into a shelter that also provides training. Don’t forget about line breeding which is close to inbreeding . Kennel clubs should put a higher rating to dogs that have a low -line / inbreeding markers in the their pedigrees . Most dog registries provide test to show how inbred a dog is ( for a fee ) .also most backyard breeders don’t study their dogs pedigree and probably most dog clubs don’t teach breeders how to breed ,for example when it’s safe to reintroduce a distant family member back into the blood line ( 5-6-or 7 generations later ) .

So I would consider not breeding unless you know a shit ton about poodles. Like, have showed them, understand their genetics, etc. But make sure to do genetic testing, desensitize the dog, and not wean them too early. My last litter I actually didn’t wean for five weeks and they turned out really well. Start desensitizing early and weighing them up until two or three weeks old. Buy a whelping box, and consider having somewhere outside for the puppies to go as part of desensitization

What other kind of breeder is there? Really? Commercial? I mean what’s the definition of a backyard breeder? Just because a man breed dogs at his home don’t mean the quality isn’t there. I would trust a small breeder that’s has the knowledge and experience behind the dogs rather than some puppy mill. Or a man that’s just cranking out a lot of puppies. Really what you need to be doing is research about these breeders. Have a conversation with the breeder. If your knowledgeable about the animals you will be able to notice if the guy is full of 💩 or not.

Most of the time mixed breed dogs have better genetics than pure breed when it comes to health. As far as temperament it will have a lot to do how you raise your puppy more than genetics imo.

  • @walruslover

But you should really not buy a dog from a breeder. Instead buy a rescue dog from a shelter. They need more care. The breeder’s dogs already have a home. The rescues don’t. Breeders see dogs as money while shelters sees them as dogs who deserve a loving family, a shelter, attention, exercise, and food. These days most people are buying these small little ones from breeders that you don’t see to much now in a dog shelter. So now the dogs that actually need more help aren’t getting adopted. Please consider buying a rescue instead of a dog from a breeder. Save the dogs ❤❤❤

I find this video misleading. Not every backyard breeder is bad and not every kennel owner is good. The phrase “dont buy from breeders thay doing it for the money” is so false. All dog kennels are doing it for the money. And u sau that pitbulls can kill other people if you buy from bad breeder which is also not the case. Your dog will behave if you know how to raise them. It all comes to the breeder himself. How does he get along with his dogs? What kind of food does he give? Does he put effort and time in raising them? Like give them training etc. Not all backyard breeders are bad and not all kennel owners are good breeders. And dont tell me those kennel owners aint there for the money 😂 Its lucrative business thats why people doing it. My advice: if you wanna buy a puppy just buy one you like and can afford as you can raise the puppy and learn them manners your own. Lets stop the bullshit and be real.

Backyard breeders are inherently bad and irresponsible. And genetics do play a role in aggression. Plus, a huge thing that you aren’t considering is that backyard breeders often separate puppies really early, and don’t desensitize them, which will lead to temperament problems. It’s not a backyard breeder if they put effort and time into raising a dog

Nonsense. It's perfectly okay to purchase from a reputable breeder of one's desired breed. Especially when you're committing yourself to 10-15 years of caring for this animal. There's a difference between a backyard breeder seeking to exploit the animal for as much profit as he can. And a reputable breeder that works to maintain and perfect the breed's standards and temperaments, while caring for the dogs' wellbeing.

  • @ebrakefml

You know that always sounds really good, but then most people who go to adopt a dog find out that it's a pain in the ass to adopt from rescues or shelters. Some places require you to have a 6 ft fenced in yard, others have income requirements, others want to come into your home and nose around, others might disqualify you because you were 3 months late getting your dog its rabies shot last year, and some of them cost almost as much as a backyard breeder. And I know these places do it because they're interested in the future welfare of the dog, but when you make things that big of a pain in the ass, you incentivize people taking the shortcut and going out and buying a dog, which can potentially make the problem worse. If people want an animal, they're going to get one whether they get it from you or somewhere else. I really wanted to adopt a senior dog who had been in the rescue shelter for 8 years, but was denied because my half acre backyard had no fence. Now I don't bother with shelters anymore. The amount of useless virtue signaling that goes on around animal shelters and rescues and people who believe in them so deeply, is obnoxious these days. Do whatever works for you as long as you are a responsible pet owner.
