I like the lock remaining where it’s at because you can’t accidentally push the button with your thumb and it close on you while you’re using the knife.

I was thinking the same thing, although I'd prefer the button to be slightly below flush with the surface of the grip panel rather than slightly above, to prevent opening in a pocket

I actually really like the fact that it still has the lockback mechanism. It's a tried and true, very strong, and dependable lock. To me it's part of that classic aesthetic that buck has. I have a manual 110 and it stays by my side all the time and I don't think an auto version would definitively replace it. Great video!

Absolutely. I dig that rock solid lock engagement, and as you say, it fits the Buck aesthetic. Button release wouldn't be a bad option, but I'd go for this version every time.

Seems the entire point keeping aesthetic, weight and LONGEVITY. The knives that go beyond funtion to "POP" might be great XTReME marketing but no way they don't compromise longevity by causing XceSS wear and fatiguing components.

The neat thing about the Buck 110/112 auto with the lockback is that you'll never have to worry about accidently hitting the deploy button while it's open and having a lock failure. I am ambi but favoring my left with most button actuated knives I worry that I grip it to hard and accidently actuate the button/lock having it close on me.

Buck did a great job designing these autos. Forever warrenty. People can keep their latest gimickey wonder knives. I've used a Buck 110 since 1967 when my wife got one for me for my Birthday. I used it on the docks of Phila as a longshoreman to the mountains of Montana logging, hunting, cabin building and cowboying. I've lost a few but none ever let me down. I may get an auto when I return to my home in Montana shortly.

I am a Buck 110, 112 and 500 series fan. I can see the see the deployment speed of the other knives you are showing for sure. But even with that faster speed, you are left holding those other knives in your hand. Even with the new materials those just don't feel as solid (most of them feel junky in comparison). I carry a Buck because it is solid in my hand. It is IMO the best locking ever. I'll take the slower speed and keep that classic lock blade! Thanks for another great video!

An auto-deploy isn't necessary. A thumb stud isn't necessary. You just place your thumb on the side of the blade and push it out. It's easy. I don't understand why people find it so hard to figure out.

Good video. I bought a 110, and love it. Its really not a "pocket" knife, but is for sure a great pouch knife. I really like Buck's lifetime guarantee. Yes there are some auto knives that are a little more up to date with a pocket clip, but you don't really buy a Buck 112 or 110 because you want an up to date knife. You buy them for the look of the knife, and its functionality. You know you are getting a truly great knife with a proven history, as well as buying an American made product.

Excellent display of examples. I agree with you on the price, and quality of all your examples. I still like the tridiagonal back lock on the 110, and all the original design. And it is a fine knife.. Along with the new automatic, but it is for collecting, and will always increase in value. For everyday toting, I would choose the Kershaw over anyone else. Great knife, excellent price. I have had a"Used Assisted Opening" for a long time. Put it up for grand youngan's. Along with approximately five hundred others that I have collected over sixty years of my almost sixtey eight years. Raised being careful and taught about using a pocketknife, and most any knife around age four&a half years old to age six&seven for sure. You had to know! Helping clean fish, chicken, squirrel,or even learning how to dress out the yearly hog. Haah!!! No joke. Just life at the moment. Personally, I can remember my Papaw Blackstock showing my how to always whittle away from your fingers&hands,or any other part of yourself. Just an honest opinion.✌️

I bought the Ranger Elite on a late night Black Friday surfing expedition in 2019. I weighed it against the brass, because I really like the brass, but the S30v and the G10 scales swayed me. I paid just about half of what they're going for now, $135.00. It's 'born on' date was 10/22/19, and to get it to me by the end of that November suggests Buck was really hustling. Out of the box it was a little rough, wouldn't deploy, not a whole lot of the quality finish work you might expect, To some this would seem a detriment, but I love finishing knives. A while on the wheel and it's been mirrored since, and the action perfect. I've been carrying Buck folders since the 60s, and I've wanted an auto since I was expelled from school in 1958 for the old 'hairpin' modification. Oh yeah, where'd I get a Ranger Elite for $135.00? Blade HQ! Good people

I paid $59.95 For the 112 auto in July 2022. It was not a sale price. Today I purchased the 110 auto Elite WOW. Although it was a little pricy...hmm, make that a lot pricy, I Love it. Now I have 2 - 110's and 2 - 112's plus a number of Buck pocket knives. My first 110 was purchased in 1967, a gift from my Mom. I sent it to Buck and for $6.95 it looks brand new, perhaps better then new. Tonight I ordered the McDaniel sheath you recommended. Thank you for the information.

If auto knives were legal to own over here I’d buy that in a heartbeat. I’ve always loved those knives but as you say, opening them isn’t as efficient as other options if you have to use one defensively. I think this is the perfect solution to that. It retains all the gorgeous heritage look whilst solving that problem in an awesome way...fantastic.

Too bad I live in PA where if I choose I can walk out into public with a can of Sabre gel, a flipper knife, a pistol with extra clips, a fixed blade knife (fopen carry or hunting only), a baton, and a taser.......but I can only own a auto for collector purpose only !!!

I was a LEO in the 70s and 80s. We all carried the buck 110 on our duty belts. Used to tape stilettos to our leg that where confiscated from dirt bags. Never needed to use it. The thumb stud is all you need one-handed opening. Don’t get me wrong autos are cool Just don’t need it as long as you have one handed opening. Not worth the money to me. Just like the old quick draw in the 1800s is over with. Great video. Respect your opinion. Like you said it’s not for everyone.

The 112/110 are classics for sure, but the size and weight alone are a put off for EDC. I love my 112, I just keep it in the truck as a backup, a Mini Crooked River fits the bill for classic look and modern features for me. To pay more for auto and it still be so heavy is a deal breaker. They are what they are, classic.

The reason the buck 112 auto doesn't seem to snap with authority is because of the weight of the handle. The weight can burry the recoil of the blade snapping which makes it seem like it's not snappy or fast. I've compared other autos with my 110 and 112 auto. Came to the conclusion the speed is the same as any other auto but the weight makes it feel slow. Just my opinion, great video.

My 112 folding ranger has finger choils in it, which I love ! Does Buck have that model in the automatic ?

Awesome video thanks for sharing. What State are you in? Where can I buy the Auto 112? I agree with you. I like the 112 much better.

Lets put a spring in a knife which is not user servicable.. Sounds like a brilliant idea..

Buck lock back makes it unique and better than any other auto knife, even out the fronts. It's the most trustworthy locking mechanism ever designed in my opinion.

I have this knife and it's very cool, however when I've used it like my standard 112 it can get gummed up and hard to close and clean.

I love Buck knives, but $140 is a little stiff for this knife. Still, I would like to own one.

Hi guys...suggestions of classic style knives that have been converted to auto open, that are reasonably priced? This is a great look, as is the Case Kickstart. Both are out of my price range though. Thoughts?

Aaron, I have the auto 110 and store it. Should I store it open, or does it matter. I thought it might help spring. Thank you

Wow… I noticed that you also had to use Two hands to close most of those other automatic knives just like you had to use two hands to close the Buck automatic knife. Weird.

I was watching a Smoky Mountain Knife Works Video on the 110 auto and it miss fired every time they tried to use it... I love buck but they are just seriously suffering in the quality and design dept all around

I agree. I tried a brand new 110 auto and the blade struggled to come out. Considering Bucks QC, I doubt it was an anomaly.

The lock back is the strength of the design. All the other push button stuff will cave in on you the buck lockback won't. Don't really care for Flick Knifes my experience is the spring becomes weak eventually. Nothing beats old school Buck 110 Maybe the Cold Steel Code4. If you a fidget flipper guy then go play with them ball bearing flipper toys. If you want a pocket knife get a Buck 110

Except if you are a slave who lives in a slave state, why would you NOT want an automatic Buck? If you like the basic knife, an automatic version is only better.
