    A lot of my Echeverias are getting ready to finish blooming. It's nice to know that I can cut the flower stalks early and enjoy them. They've been on for about a month now. I had no idea you could put them in water without them rotting out. Thanks so much for the information Deborah, I just love your succulent varieties and videos. I hope you have a beautiful day!

    It is so sweet of you to do this video! I was gifted a beautiful echeveria Pollux a month or so ago; the mother plant is humongous and has three stems with buds growing off of the stems and also leaves but the buds are not flowering as of yet is it okay to cut these stems and should I put them in water once cut, since they have not yet flowered? Thank you in advance! ❤️

    Yes, you can cut them and put them in water...or they'll last a long time as is. If there are little plants on the stem, you can cut those and plant them as well!

    How long do you leave the cuttings in the water? Will they route in there? Or can you just cut them and stick them right in the dirt and then they’ll grow from there

    Hi Patricia -- The flower stems aren't cuttings, and they don't really need water, but giving them some will help them last longer. They don't root. For more about starting succulent cuttings, go to debraleebaldwin.com/succulent-questions-answers/#propagation

    Yes you can! It's called "deadheading" when you remove dry flowers. Snip the stem where they emerge from the plant.

    So I read that the flowers produce seed. Do they still produce seed if you cut them from the plant? And do they ever root? Just curious.

  • @QueenofSucculents

    @QueenofSucculents

    5 жыл бұрын

    Yes, they'll continue to grow and produce seed, providing they're mature enough. Do the flowers root? No, but sometimes plantlets form along the bloom stalk, and they can be cut off and rooted, as can leaves.

  • @QueenofSucculents

    @@vopatina I'm guessing it's a thick stem with a few leaves attached? And roots are coming out where leaves are (or were)? Wonderful! But do cut off the flowers, so they don't drain the baby plant's energy.

    Echeverias don't die after flowering. Sorry, I didn't realize that needed to be stated. So few succulents are monocarpic; among those that do die after flowering are agaves, aeoniums and sempervivums.
