Debra your garden is so beautiful and inspirational. What kind of irrigation do you use in your garden? I’m in the SF east Bay Area of California, zone 9b. Same conditions as you described in your garden. What is your plant zone? I have your book too. Love looking at it. Thanks for the tour!

I'm Zone 9b too, although you probably get more frost and rainfall. My irrigation system is a 30-year combination of everything from risers to pop-ups to drip. I have a slight preference for overhead irrigation that goes on before dawn. In the height of summer, 10 min twice a week. Then if need be, I supplement with hose watering. Like the bank along the busy road. Rather than running the line a lot, I manually spray water where it's needed. And every year I wonder, "Why am I doing this?"
Had to giggle when you said, only you see the snail and the weed! (I'm a woman btw, on my husband's youtube account, so I giggle)

Absolutely love your garden Debra, I have a number of Cycads in our front yard (we are on a Acre) and would like to compliment them with other structure plants, could you suggest something that would grow well and not give pups that are difficult to remove, we live in South East Victoria, Australia

Hi Susan, you bet! One of the best is Agave guiengola. See my video on agaves that don't pup. kzread.info/dash/bejne/nYKtj5qNl5DZg5c.html
Love your garden Debra. Do you grow any edible or fruiting plants? I have a similar succulent and drought tolerant garden and am trying to find ways to grow food with plants that take very little care. I have Peruvian apple cactus, loquats, pomegranate and am trying dragon fruit. Any suggestions?

That sounds like a good selection for Southern CA. Given that fruit trees do best with regular water, fertilizer, thinning, etc., some others that get by with minimal care once established include citrus, figs and pineapple guavas.
At 2:30 are you saying “Senecio mandraliscae” ? It looks great and I want to make sure I get the right variety.

would love to see a video or pics from when you first moved in... i am assuming your slope was bare, you developed the levels? it seems such a challenge to build out sloped areas. thanks!

Love the entire Landscape. I do have a question. I would like to know info about the birdbath fountain with the ball on top. I would like to purchase one for the birds. Is it electric or solar or any information would be appreciated. Thanks

Southern California's climate is similar to where many of these plants come from: South Africa and the Canary Islands. Others are native to the nearby desert Southwest and Mexico.
