Which gear is perfect for hills or steep since its a non turbo. Should one leave it in D or shift it to Manual low gear or high gear?

It depends..most ghats you can leave it in D. Only if you are having trouble climbing a particular steep incline, or starting on a steep incline do you need to shift into L.
