Yeah, declawing is basically cutting the cats fingers off at the knuckles, trimming their claws is just cutting their finger nails. Very different things.

@@jojomaster7675No, declawing is actually even more serious. A lot of people don’t realize this but it’s a legit amputation. Like, they actually cut into the bone. The cat’s entire “fingertip” is removed.

@@mrj4994 I didn't really look too deep into it, but regardless it's not something you'd want to do to a cat. Also, tearing off fingernails is a legit torture method, so I wouldn't say it's less serious.

Remember guys. Just like human fingernails these claws grow and can get brittle if they are left without proper grooming for too long. They also can shed claws due to breakage! My cat's claw broke off (it was only the tip, and he does a bit of scratching.) so keep in mind that like our nails, again, they can wear down and break when they are used a lot.

From personal experience, I cam confirm that uncut nails can grow way too long to a point where they curl back inside and then chronically pieks jnto the paw. My fathers cat was unable to be trimmed due to the abuse it had suffered, it was literally impossible to get a hold of the cat. It was a cat that had constant access to outdoor areas and a lot of wood tgings inside to also scratch their nails. One still grew too long.

My cat doesn't face that problem a lot, but he does allow my mom to trim his claws. He's not fond of it, but he doesn't pull away, hiss, or scratch. We're convinced he was a domestic kitten.
