In this video, I discuss some expensive camera gear that I was hesitant to pick up, but actually got a ton of use out of and didn't end up regret buying. I discuss my dilemma with the Sony FX3, FX30, and A7IV, as well as the Tamron 35-150mm f2-2.8, some Black Pro Mist filters, and the Sony XLR Handle Unit.

I use the FX30 and I got the Tamron 70-180 ff lens and I don't regret it at all. Its so sharp and I get the extra reach that I was looking for vs buying a not as good APSC zoom lens.
I need an FX3 Mk II announced asap before I jump the gun on upgrading

I've seen rumors of other models in the a7 line and fx line but not a fx3 mark ii unfortunately

Peter...that small rig handle extender is really worth it....I know it is a pain and the stock handle should have been better designed...but the Small Rig (or Tilta, I bet -- I have the SR)...is great...

Yeah it’s on the list of things for me to pick up for sure! Way more convenient than the magic arm I use now to extend the handle
Hey peter, I've been shooting sports for a little while now and looking to buy a new camera soon. Im currently in the cannon family but looking to switch to the Sony family. The main camera im looking at is the fx30 since the fx3 is out my budget. Ive watched some of your reviews and the only thing thats scarying me is the low light capability. id probably be using a f/2.8 lens so I think I would be alright on the football field and low lite gyms but id like to hear from someone with more experience before spending so much on a camera. How would it hold up? Would the noise be bad? Thank you
Hi Peter, Iam a big fan of your work, I have been getting in to the game now for 3 years. I started and still shoot on a sony a6400. Been thinking about this set for quite a while now (FX3 and the Tamron 35-150) But I wonder if the FX3 II wont come out next year? So do you think its still worth it in 2024 to get the FX3?

I’m not going to give advice based on or speculate about what cameras may be coming out in the future because I quite frankly have no idea, but I will say that the fx3 and Tamron 35-150mm combo is one that works very very well for me and I don’t *think* technology will evolve to a point in the next couple of years where 4K120 with 10-bit colour in a compact body becomes obselete tech
Have you thought about getting one larger mist filter and then just using step down rings for your lenses? this helps me save a lot of money. Also, have you tried the PM mist ND filters? ive been putting them off because of the price, but wondering if getting 1 mist+nd filter for everything

I currently do have one filter per camera and use step up rights, and with up to 3 cameras going at once in a shoot I have 3 filters 😭. Haven’t tried the PM mist ND but would be curious for sure
