Should you buy the Peugeot 107/Toyota Aygo/Citroen C1 - A Loose Nuts Car Review

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

Edit 1 minute 24: I should have said 8.2p, not 82p, thank you Jamil!
The Peugeot 107. A car designed for the masses, but mainly purchased as a first car or last car.
It sold very well in the UK, but should you buy one today?
Join me today where in this video, I will attempt to answer that question and put the car to the test with a 0-60 run.

I bought an aygo for commuting, it's absolutely fantastic. £20 a year tax, average 60mpg. Can work on it myself to save service costs. Did suffer from water ingress but easy enough to fix. Cheap insurance and running costs means everyday motoring is affordable

People put this in the class of a 1st car. But I’m many years on from having passed my driving test. As a town / city car these 3 (107 / Aygo / C1) are great, plus a very sensible choice. If you are not out to inflate your ego in public (in some big 4x4 or bland German hatchback, or a boy racer) these little cars are a brilliant option. 😎👍🏻 Loving driving mine.

I agree. I've been driving since 1983 & I'm going to buy one. Why? because 90% of my driving is around town these days and I've worked out it'll save me around £1300 per year in running costs and that's not even factoring in the cheaper parts. Meanwhile my 30 year old colleague with a huge mortgage is paying over £500 to lease her gas guzzling Range Rover type vehicle and she been told she's going to owe a few thousand at the end of the term because she's gone way over her allocated annual mileage. Egos don't come cheap.

Ooh, very jealous of that collection, out of curiosity, which Lexus do you have? Its definitely a great car to drive, economy wise, handling wise, and fun at low speed, it's very hard to match such a small go-kart feeling car. I feel like the XF would be fun but you have to keep it above a certain speed? Glad you're enjoying your car, and thank-you for taking the time to watch & comment.

Brilliant cars👍 Just bought 2 Aygos for me and my wife, no tax, insurance 240pounds for both, 55mpg. Not bored with it at all after 6 months bearing in mind my previous few cars were Impreza WRX, Skyline GTR, Mini SD and Audi TT quatro. 66 Plate Aygo is not excessively noisy, boot is great for shopping (2 seconds to drop the seats) acceleration is more than fine for city driving especially if higher revving in lower gears. Occasionally use it on motorways and is fine at 70mph. All in all I would have no hesitation in recommending these cars, but I certainly prefer the new shaped model and with the screen in the dash. Just my opinion from someone with 30 plus years of driving and sick of costly repairs and hefty running costs.

That's a good summary from someone who actually owns and drives one. I'm on the brink of buying one. I've been driving for decades and I'm sick of pumping money into cars and especially lining the government's pocket with an excessive £360 road tax on my current car. Zero road tax and 60mpg as opposed to my £360 and 23mpg will save me at least £1300 a year and that's not factoring in the much cheaper consumables. Yes the lack of space is a compromise but if I'm saving so much money I could pay a few quid to have things delivered.

You didnt hold second gear long enough in your 0-60, its good for a screaming 50/55 mph before you move to third and its where the bulk of the acceleration comes from between 0 and 60. Gets me from A to B in no time, and it's dirt cheap in fuel cost, insurance and maintenance. If something breaks down, you can easily find spare parts online and just plug them in. They are a great first car not without their faults. Engines get smoky and rattles when cold with mileage and start burning oil they have a small oil capacity. But keep them top up with oil and they go on and on. Poorly maintained ones the vvt can clog up causing the engine to hold back at around 4000rpm. Will still Rev out. There is normally a drop of about 5/10mpg. 5 door model the rear windows the bonding can fail causing the rear window to fall out but is an easy cheap fix. But parts and servings are cheap and I know someone who had a big accident in one and they stand up very well. My wife had one as her first car a 2 tronic (automatic)and I have brought one for my daughter as a first car. I don’t think you can go far wrong with them

Here almost 75% of delivery drivers has one of these as they're dead reliable. Always easy to make a profit on them as they often scrap them for a worn clutch that you can simply adjust and then sell it to the next one and make over 1250€ of profit. I can buy them very cheaply from the local scrapyard. If you give them a bit of TLC you can make more but it's mostly not worth the time. The engine though is very harsh and always present. Fuel economy amd reliability makes up for that though

  • @loosenuts01

    @loosenuts01

    Жыл бұрын

Too true. In my opinion the first 4-5 years insurance was the biggest factor. My first car was a Mk1 Ka which cost £210, but insurance was £1,030! I've actually driven the 1.6HDI a while ago and would say, while the Pug 107 is relatively slow 0-60, you can enjoy yourself at most speeds. The problem I had with the 208 was it's got a lot of weight to it and if you want to drive it in a fun way, its quite difficult. I also heard that the first generation 2011 onwards was plagued with quite a few mechanical issues, so something to keep an eye on if you do move over. That being said, storage wise or taking more than 2 people in the car at once, definitely hands down more practical than the 107, however, there are a wide range of great diesel cars, mainly from VW & it's sister brands, such as the Golf 1.6 BlueMotion or Skoda Fabia. Maybe a Japanese car if you're after more reliability but fewer mod-cons, such as a Mazda 2 or 3. That's the great and awful thing about cars, the choice is immense. And thank you for your kind words, I think there's definitely a large segment of smaller mainstream, less premium cars that are being missed from (what I hope is) a more fun focused car review. The aim is if I can keep getting a couple of weekends with these cars, to carry this on whenever possible, but do these alongside some additional car-related videos.

Hi Wills Wheels, 106 & C1 I believe have the exact same boot. I totally agree that it's tiny and needs to be bigger, but think for the weekly shop they've made it deep enough to work. Would be buggered with anything else though, suitcase for holiday, house moves ect. Thank you for your comment.

The 107 is the same as the C1. The 106 was the same as the Citroen Saxo, and had a MUCH much bigger boot than the 107/C1/Aygo.

My friend has a 1.4hdi c1 the only time it’s more economical is on a run and they handle mileage a lot better. The 3 cylinder petrol although generally reliable just get rattly and smoky over 100k keep them topped up with fluids and they just keep going. Where the 1.4 hdi if serviced correctly can do big mileage this isn’t what this car is intended to do. My friends c1 1.4 hdi which replaced his 206 1.4 hdi currently on 260000miles still runs really sweet the car looks like it’s done the miles he’s had it from new. It’s know used as a second car and teach his kids to drive.

A little info for you the engine is Daihatsu in origin and not Toyota also certain years are road tax free , but a good little film and it's not lacking in power if you're not looking for it it's very adequate and gathers speed very well also motorway driving is pretty good.

  • @loosenuts01

Hi Michael, First, thank you for watching & taking the time to comment. I wasn't actually aware of certain years being road-tax free, thank you for the insight there. It's funny, I used to drive a Daihatsu Sirion when I first passed, 1.3 litre, 105bhp, 4 wheel drive, which I believe was one of the last Daihatsu labelled engines exported to the UK. I was devastated to learn about Toyota taking over as they would stop selling them in the UK. Guess they're still exporting, just under their parent company.
