I definitely recommend the micro 9 as long as you get the kimber houge grip for it it’s the most comfortable gun you can hold and it’s beautiful

I agree. The rosewood grips are pretty but not to practical. I had a sharp edge on the rosewoods that cut my palm. Houge’s are much more comfortable and shootable.

I use and carry the Kimber Micro 9. For its size, it is very reliable. To make it more effective and accurate. I have the extended mag for your pinky. I roughened the front of the grip to hold it on the recoil. Finally, I added a grip laser and you can shoot from the hip for soeed.

@scottschaffer2755 I developed what you call a "fanny pack". I use a special one that carries a gun. Since I am a Senior, no one thinks an old guy would carry a gun. I have used this method for 15 years. Now, years ago, as an investigator, I carried a belt holster snubnose 38.

That's called "Second round drag". It happens for many reasons and can happen on ANY semi auto pistol. The friction between the top round and second round is greater than the friction between the second and third rounds. (What holds the second round in place.) The round is maybe dusty, the mag may be dusty or the magazine spring may have lost some tension. Used brass will many times cause this too. From the sizing die leaving a small bulge at the bottom near the groove and the rounds do not lie flat together. If it does this with one mag and never with another, examine the feed lips for differences. 2:26 Yours shows the top round nose high which lets the rim engage the second round by the groove and pull it out. @@richardjohnson4238 I sanded the frame and slide rails to remove the factory coatings and it feeds like glass now. The coatings in the rails were gummy and will wear away in 200-300 rounds, but sanding is faster. 240 grit lightly, then 400 grit then finish with 800.

To add more texture to the front of the grip frame try Talon Grips. They sell flat sheets of their adhesive rubberized grip material. I've used it on a CZ grip frame that was slick it made a big difference.

In my experience, the loose round after chambering with a full mag and then ejecting it, is pretty common across several different brands of 1911’s (or 1911-inspired designs) and magazines. I’ve never had it cause an issue when shooting personally. More of an annoyance than anything. I’ve had it happen with my Micro 9, Sig P238 and P938, Ruger SR1911 (commander), Sig 1911 (full-size), RIA 1911 (full-size), and a Springfield Armory 1911 (lightweight champion). I have had it occur more often with .380 and 9mm guns than .45.

I've never had a loose round, but when shooting my P938 I generally have to withdraw the mag manually if there's a round in the mag; the top round overhangs the feed ramp enough to prevent the mag from dropping free, but the round doesn't pop out of the mag when it's withdrawn. With only six-round capacity, I'm not often unloading the gun!

I have the same problem when injecting the round from the chamber in my sig Sauer p938. The reason I went to the sig Sauer p938 instead of the Kimber micro 9 is that I can use or I should say sig Sauer says that they p938 is rated for Plus P ammo, unlike the Kimber.

I have the Micro 9 with Crimson Trace grip. Do not care for the laser as my hand just does not activate the laser unless I hold it a certain way, awkward, probably useless in an emergency. I noticed that when you first load a full mag and rack the slide, the second round rides up towards the chamber. This is what is causing the round to fall out when ejecting the mag. Best way I found is to load 1 round in the mag, load the chamber, then eject the mag and fill it with the 6 or 7 rounds, no more problems. First time firing this gun, the firing pin actually fell out onto the ground, along with the firing pin spring, and retainer plate. Replaced it back, and never a problem since. Still has me baffled.Gun is very accurate, great sights, and has become my favorite carry gun. I too have the DeSantis holster, it was $29 on eBay.

I own 4 Kimbers. 3 of those are Micro 9s'. My wife has the Belair Blue, my first one was a cool CSE (Cabelas Store Exclusive) and then I just had to have the Raptor. 850.00 out the door. Wow. Pretty expensive and I did choke a little. But it was to be my EDC and I wanted a quality gun which is why I paid the price. The gun has failed out of the box. It will not make it through a magazine without a FTE. Usually the second round. I have done everything I could do, a good clean, lube and ordered and installed a new recoil spring. Customer service had an RMA to me within an hour of the call. My issue now is this gun, when repaired will never be trusted as my EDC. I will not carry a repaired gun and count on it to save my life. This just destroyed me and now I have an expensive range gun that I will not carry. Thanks Kimber, the right thing to do would be to replace it but they scoff at that. A ton of money for a range monkey. I am so pissed.

Chris Sourp I have the Micro 9. Never an issue with over 800 rounds. But if I sent it back to Kimber I would expect it to function flawlessly. Sometimes it's just one part causing the issue. Sometimes it's the ammo. As far as not trusting it. I think that is a little crazy. My Glock, .45 Shield, Bodyguard all had FTE issue. Once the recoil springs were replaced they functioned flawlessly. I would trust all of them.

Well, thanks for the comments, except for the "crazy" part. I was ranting a little but you sir, hit the nail on the head. It was the ammo. Kimber contacted me and said after 6 magazines they could not get the gun to fail. I was a bit stunned. By the way their customer service is great. I've been using Remington UMC 9mm 115 grain exclusively in all my 9s'. Ran great. EXCEPT in the Raptor. Kimber suggested using 124 grain to break in the gun. When I got it back I used Blazer, American Eagle and Maxtech all 124 grain and the gun did not hiccup once. 150 rounds of pure shootin bliss. YAY. I guess the Raptors are made to some pretty tight specs and the gun runs fine now with 124 grain EXCEPT Remington. The gun will not run Remington anything. So a big FU to Remingtons under- powered ammo. Thanks for your response Sir. Peace............

I have the same problem on the 9 of round coming out when releasing mag. I drilled and tapped the mag releases and added extensions plus "buttons" that comes back towards hand/thumb. This cuts the time of changing mags in half .I don't have to change hand position. Love them, I am going to add an extension to the slid release on the 9 for the same reason.

Skate board tape , rubber style or sandpaper grit. Your choice. Your grip will be way better. Why Kimber doesn't add front checkering to all these small carry pistols is just crazy.

I bought a Maxx carry holster for my micro 9, perfect fit clip is tight and it has an extention on the inside so the gun doesn't dig into your side. With the second round dropping in the magwell, I make sure all of the rounds are pushed all the way back into the mag and have cut the times it drops that second round to almost never. It is a great little gun, just a little hard to get the right grip when shooting. I have been thinking about getting the Houge grips for it to see if it made a difference.

Have this gun in 380 and it doesn’t have this feeding issue. It did require a break in (which to be fair, maybe the shooter but I’ve never hard this with another gun), At first it’s super stiff and inaccurate. After 80 rounds, totally different gun. Accurate and smooth.

I thought I had my CCW picked out (P938) but when I went shopping today, a salesman asked if I had considered the Micro 9? After having him show me some Micro 9 examples, I decided KZread research was in order. I have watched several different reviews on the Micro 9 and it appears the biggest issue (if it presents) is the fail to properly feed. That said, from reading comments it seems the feeding issue is primarily ammo related and you resolve it by purchasing quality ammo in a larger grain to break in the gun. Time to get back out there and find my Micro 9!

Can I ask what swayed you from the 938 to the Kimber? I am in the same situation you were and I'm leaning towards the Micro9 almost purely based on looks, but from what I can tell the p938 seems to be the almost-universally preferred option of the two.

  • @kenbell9094

hd74xlhs While true the ammo quality could be sub-par a more likely culprit of jamming could be due to the right specs of Kimbers for precision. Kimbers 1911's require frequent lubeing/cleaning. Also Kimbers tend to need a 500-1000 rounds of firing to 'break the gun in'. I'll probably buy a Micro 9 as soon as I can afford one.

Pros- Great sights, great grips, compact, concealable, beautiful aesthetics, not made of plastic, cheap and readily available ammo and great reliability. Cons- Expensive price point, decent recoil (for a 9mm), low magazine capacity, short sight radius and the obligatory hate from the polymer pistol guys. Thanks WaiteProductios; The funny part is that, I do have the Kimber top of the line custom version of Kimber .45 and it's top notch but due to it's high price, I kind of ignored Micro 9, because I thought it would be close to my .45 price range, not 1/3 :-) So I bought the Sig. Now I see, Micro 9 is even less expensive than my Sig. I do agree, the grip of Kimber is better in my hand than Sig. But according to size chart that I have, Micro 9 and Sig P938 are very close to each other. I was looking at this: www.sportsmansoutdoorsuperstore.com/products2.cfm/ID/198514 But it's not on Kimber site anymore and I'm afraid is discontinued which is not good.

Ben Hayat I really like both of them actually. I had some issues with the Kimber (FTF) in the first 200rds or so. It’s since then been 100%reliable. The sig I just bought last weekend and I’ve been to the range twice in at a little over 200rds with it. I’ve had no issues with the sig. I feel both are great carry pistols. The micro 9’s slide is more rounded which certainly aids in comfort carry. However if you have the 938 SAS I doubt you’ll feel much difference. The trigger on the Kimber is nicer and a little lighter (probably due to being broken in), sig has a plastic trigger which is kinda dumb. Uptake and break are both similarly nice and smooth. Sig sights are ledged on front for one hand operation, kimbers are rounded and difficult to rack slide without two hands. Something to note is Kimber only offers a 1 year warranty where as sig is a lifetime warranty.

You did a nice job discussing the Kimber Micro Nine (9). WARNING: YOU SHOULD NEVER DISCUSS OR SHOW OR TALK ABOUT ANY GUN WITH A LOADED GUN. You should move ALL ammo off the table and probably keep it out of reach. I understand that you wanted to show issues with the gun and needed to put a loaded magazine in the gun. When you are finished showing that issue you could make it a part of your video putting the ammunition away. Good video. Keep up the videos. Rod

I figured out the only way it will load the first round reliably is to use the slide release. Pulling the slide and letting it slingshot always jams it.

ditto the loose round. Mag does NOT like to hang onto Hornady's Critical rounds... I always wonder if the second round will be there! I don't blame the firearm, ...it's a flaw with the mag.

Thanks for the upload, I'm in Oregon and I am torn between the Springfield Armory micro 9 1911 EMP 9mm single stack with the crimson trace laser grip, And the kimber micro 9 1911 9mm cdp satin and silver with crimson trace laser grip. They're currently retailing for $1,000-$1,100 with the "gear up package " (5 mags, speed loader, magazine belt clip, 4-5 extra magazines, a hard shell case & a carrying case. Any ideas on your options are welcome. Merry Christmas bitches!!

My dad bought 2 Micro 9's, one for himself one for my sister. Both run great but one shoots 6 inches low and 3 inches right at 16 yards with various factory ammo. The other hits 4 inches low and 5 inches right at the same 16 yards . Ammo used was Hornady Critical Defense 124 gr, Sig 124 gr , Winchester 115 gr, American Eagle 115 gr and military ball 115 gr. The sight regulation isn't that great though they are good pistols I am not impressed with the accuracy and why I carry my 1911 Colt Commander 45 that shoots to the sights.

Just popped up. It’s quite obvious you are not familiar with SA only pistols like the 1911 and 1911ish. Hope you put many rounds down range prior to EDC or you will get yourself in trouble. I only carry 1911 or 1911ish pistols but I do love to shoot others at the range, but muscle memory is key, as you draw and point, your thumb comes down on the safety. Practice that at the range, even if it’s from a low ready. And I do not recommend two different manual of arms on EDC, just looking for trouble.

Well that was dangerous! Ever hear of snap caps? There is only four times to handle a loaded weapon: loading it, holstering and unholstering it, shooting it, and unloading it. It's not a toy to play with. My wife owns the Kimber Micro 9mm. It is a nice, reliable, and well made weapon , but the grip is too short for my hands and the magazine will not release because the rubber magazine extension has palm pressure. I carry a Colt New Agent 45ACP, which basically the same as the Kimber Ultra CPD. The Kimber Ultra CPD is slightly bigger than the Kimber Micro and flush magazines. Also the Kimber Ultra CPD 9mm is a true 1911 with a grip safety that is lacking on the Micro 9mm.

Thanks for the video. Informative. Concerning the holster (I have the same for a glock 19), use strips of nonskid material behind the clip, against the leather. Will maintain clip from moving as much. I also trimmed the excess leather at the bottom of the holster for a more comfortable feel (AIWB carry, less poking when I sit).

I was dead set on getting this Micro 9...then I found out from a couple of local ranges that their rental Micro 9s they had frequently got sent back to Kimber for repairs...and in one instance, they had frame fracture issues. So...probably a great carry piece, but heavy usage might expose some long-term reliability issues. Just what I've been told, but I'll trust the ranges on this.

There's another review of a micro 9 in which guy is shoving dirt in the slide, dropping it, and chucking it at things... Through all the stress testing he did - the gun worked every time, no damage to anything but the grip. Put several hundred rounds through it. And he was very liberal in shoving dirt into the slide. It's an all metal gun except for the side grips. The side grips did fracture in his stress test as they are plastic-y.

I would like to know more specifics about what sort of frame failures occurred. However, unless these fractures were caused by dropping the weapon, cracks from firing are totally unacceptable. The micros remind me of the Colt Mustangs, does anyone know if the alloy Mustangs had frame cracking issues?

Just traded mine for an ar15. Honestly, I really really really wanted to love this gun. I had the night fall edition that came with rubber grips, extended mag, and true night sights (new). Very sexy all black, single stack 9mm firearm. I cleaned and lubed her up before I went shooting, and every time after that. All shots would print very low to the right (would miss the target completely and hit the cardboard). Had other people shoot it and the same thing happened. Wasn't sure if was the sights or what. If I aimed up to the left just slightly it would hit dead center. Didn't do research about this company until after my spontaneous purchase at the gun show. Realized after, that this company uses cheaper/economical means of creating their parts. Many people argued this process still created great parts (they mold their parts vs milling them). Ironically, after about only 200 rounds in, I noticed the inferior manufacturing mentioned... The slide was pretty scratched up already where the shells eject; basically most of the color was gone in that area (cosmetic only, but still). Also, after taking the beauty apart, I noticed the firing pin had two indentations on it. The crescent design firing pin was actually made after they realized the flat pin was not working. Well.. the crescent design isn't working either; the part that slams into it after each shot (I think the firing block?) is literally denting into the firing pin, hence the two indented marks already there. Of course this made me worried that this will overtime destroy the firing pin. I went onto Kimber's website to look at the price of their firing pins for the micro 9. Sold out. Of course. For how much I paid for this gun, I was fairly salt about these problems. Don't get me wrong, the gun fired, no malfunctions, but I still shouldn't have these problems with an apparently high end firearm. I didn't even want to bother sending it in, since there are quite a few stories out there indicating the lack of "fixing" the gun when sent in multiple times. This may or may not be an isolated problem with just my Kimber. Def one of the most compact/powerful guns I had, very sexy, very practical, if it had worked. Glad others got a better batch of this gun, the gun was super easy to conceal and def had enough ammo to get the job done. Shot this along side my friends Taurus 9mm, was very sad seeing the Kimber being outperformed by a gun priced less than half of the Kimber. Just had to put that out there for people wanting to get some more insides of the Micro 9.

While I served in the military unlike many, I never really liked my 70s series 1911 G.I. model. I thought it was probably a great gun for WWI and WWII maybe up to the Korean war, but during the Vietnam era when I served, I thought it was long overdue for a lighter more modern replacement. A pricy mini version of a 1911 in 9mm just seems like a very weird little gun, but Hey! it's a free country. If you want a micro 9mm there are lots of great options without compromises to look like a design from over a century ago. And "let's go Brandon".

All I can see are people saying that it's a really beautiful gun, feels really nice in my hand, the Contour and the ergonomics are excellent, very concealable and I don't feel it in my purse. And last but not least I just bought mine can't wait to go and shoot it. I can tell by all these comments that there are some first-time or novice Shooters here. Choose Wisely on your micro mini carry guns. There are some that won't make it over 5000 rounds, in terms of fractures brakes cracks and parts hitting you in the face. You also have the failure to feed. Double feed and jamming. All of these issues can cost you your life. You are probably wondering how do I know or have all this information. Well I work at a gun range in Las Vegas and our guns go through the torture test. They are inspected cleaned and lubed for the next customer. And of course we also have customers that can bring their own firearms. I'm sharing this to keep you informed and to keep you safe. And I just cringe when someone wants to carry their gun in a fanny pack or purse. And warning there is no lemon law when you buy a gun that does not work. Your firearm should shoot right out the box and of course some real ubben and cleaning might be good as well. Kimber is a very expensive firearm and you should not need to send it back for repair or recalls. Simply Google the gun that you are buying or interested in and at the end put issues. If the gun has certain issues they will be there. I can see why the local gun show had the Kimber at 375 dollars. Which was $25 over its wholesale price. Once you buy the gun the serial number is yours, you cannot get your money back. Good luck and stay safe

There is NO reason to buy this gun unless....you want a great gun that is beautiful and accurate. It fires a 9mm round which is reasonably priced. It has a hammer that is better then a striker fire. You can improve on this gun however. The front grip can be etched to help you hold it. I built a longer pinky grip to keep the gun in your hand well. Finally, mount a green laser on the grip and the gun becomes top notch.

I bought one. It fails to feed after the first shot every single time no matter what grain or bullet nose style I use if I put 7 rounds in the magazine. It never fails to feed if I put 6 in the magazine. I have multiple 7 round Kimber mags, happens to all of them. The factory trigger is heavy at 8lbs whereas all my Kimber 1911s are 4. I've thought about having it lowered as it causes pull off in such a small weapon. I also find it difficult to find good grip on the upper frame and slide because of its size. I do like the weapon as a carry and do. I just run with one less round than it's supposed to be capable of. I mostly carry it in an ankle holster and it works there very well; I wouldn't worry about having to run and it cause problems.
