    Why are people so critical of the 1911 grip safety; it makes the weapon supremely safe, and does not interfere at all with function. I personally like it.

  • @BoopSnoot

    @BoopSnoot

    4 жыл бұрын

    There's a risk in pocket carry of knocking it off, and then you are left with a single action trigger. Granted it should still be in a holster and is rated at 7lbs. Alternatively, no safety means one less thing to forget about in a panic situation and a 7lb long double-action trigger like on a Kahr is safe without the safety.

  • @veriest1

    @veriest1

    4 жыл бұрын

    @@BoopSnoot he was talking about the grip safety not the thumb safety. Basically, with a poor grip like what sometimes happens in a panic situation means they don't always disengage. Quite a few people have them pinned and older guns won't have them at all. They're really not needed imo.

    I like a grip safety. Hmm. I have several 1911's and several 1911 clones without grip safeties. This is a total copy of the Sig Sauer P938, and owning both I prefer the Sig. I own two other Kimber's and consider them to be a good quality semi custom pistol maker. 1 thing about the micro 9 I experienced was a dislike for 115 gr ammo until a break in period. After 200 to 300 rounds it will eat anything.

    I've had my Kimber micro 9 with laser grip for several months now. I'm really glad I bought it. It's been Flawless and it's a nice-looking gun. It takes up very little more room in my pocket then my Colt Mustang well giving me 9 mm and an extra round.

    I've got a stainless Kimber Micro 9 with a factory muzzle brake. Super accurate and I LOVE this firearm. Is my carry gun now. Reminds me very much of my Kimber Custom .45 that I've carried for years. It IS accurate considering barrel length. The most important factor in comfortable grip is me switching to the Kimber 8 Rd mag with pinkie grip. Big improvement if your hands are large.

    Used to own a Sig P938 SAS, that was until the Kimber Micro 9 CSE (Cabela's Special Edition) came out last Thanksgiving. Got rid of the P938. The Micro 9 is an incredibly wonderful little carry piece. As your incredibly torturous test proved: It is Reliable. Also quite accurate and I've shot at least 9 different brands of ammo as well as HP's of various types and polymer tipped ammo; zero failures with over 700 rounds through mine. Smaller hands, don't have that slide issue you did either. Great video, thanks for doing what I could never do to a fine piece of equipment.

    That very gun (with the C.T. grips) is my EDC gun. I think it's fantastic and I was pleased to see it perform so well in your testing. When I was buying it, some tchotch walked up and said, "Oh, you know Kimbers. They're really picky about ammo. Really picky! Their quality has gone down in recent years." Blah blah blah. Some of the same crap in the comments to this video. I don't care what someone thinks they know because their friend behind the counter at the gunshop gave his "expert" opinion to them. I own this gun and I love it. It's never FTF or FTE no matter what I've fed it. The trigger is great. I shoot it well with the laser off and lights-out with the laser on. It's a stout piece and it carries like a dream. Great review. Hurt my heart to see you beating up my favorite carry gun like that, but the strong finish was worth it! Subbed!

    I've learned this gun does not like flat nose and hollow point ammo. The bullets like to also nose dive into the feed ramp and cause it to fail to cycle. Not sure if its a mag or feed ramp issue.

    I bought a .380 Micro a few months before the Micro 9 came out and I love it. The thing I didn't like about the gun were the sights were straight iron no dot and for the price of the gun it should've come standard. I've been carrying it as my back up pistol. I've purchased several of the 7 round extended Mags because the 6 round flat Mag is a waste of metal because of the pinky issue. It's been a rugged and consistent little piece. So until I can find something better I'll be keeping the .380 Micro. This fella put on a good test and it makes me even more confident in my little Kimber .380 Micro.

    That was the craziest gun review video I've ever seen. Never saw a gun tested by throwing it at a target. That's a first but it was really fun to watch. I was looking for a review specifically on the Kimber Micro 9 because I'm thinking about buying one and need to know more about their reliability. That gun was very reliable for you except for when you put your thumb on the slide. Not a gun problem. You just have big hands. Gun doesn't fit your hand. I think it would fit mine. It still fired perfectly even after all the dirt and torture you put it through. I'm sold.

    The only issue I have with mine is at times (with one magazine) some ammo won't slide up the feed ramp. I'm going to buy a Dremel and polish it, which should take care of that issue. While this isn't a complaint about the gun, the 7 round magazines are a pain in the ass to load, because the spring pressure on them is so stout. Comparing the magazine springs to my Springfield Armory 1911-A1 and Beretta M9, it's MUCH stiffer!

    When new ,break the gun down and then clean the shipping/storage lube off and use a high quality oil before breaking in a Kimber Micro 9 with 50-100 rounds of 124 grain . Then break it down ,clean and lube and you will have the best and most reliable small conceal gun there is (they also work great even if you don't do this but if you want the best break in ;do this) and It will work as good as it looks for many generations. This advice came from Kimber's factory.

    Andrew, whoever said one can't entertain and share valuable information simultaneously hasn't seen this video. Just found the channel while searching for reviews of the KMicor9 and Sig938. Your torture test has me leaning in the Kimber direction. Looking forward to seeing more of your reviews,

    just bought a micro 9 (non laser version)...after 200 rounds i had one fail to feed using federal 115grn target fmj..gun struggles to feed hollow point ammo for me..wont feed sig elite at all and then i tryd federal HST and have to rack the slide twice to get it to seat the first round..typical 1911,you have to sink more money into it to get it to run properly..feeds fmj's fine for the most part and the gun seems fairly accurate..i bought two 8 round mags,which i seriously recommend

    To chamber the first round I have the slide locked back, put in the magazine and release the slide lock and the first round chambers as it should. I’ve experienced nose dive on a full magazine + 1 in the chamber with the 7 round mag. So I just run it with 7 rounds or 6 + 1 chambered.

    Watching the video caused my Micro9 to tremble in my pocket. I had to assure it I wouldn't treat it that way. I love mine, but good to know it will stand more than I will put it through. Thank you.

    The battery will not go dead if you leave it in the on position. According to Crimson Trace you can leave the battery in the on position indefinitely and it will not drain the battery at all the only thing that will drain the battery is while you're holding the grip in the laser is actually Shining. While the laser is shining it's good for 40 hours

    I just saw this for the first time. I was looking for a smaller off duty gun for summer. I was looking for a Sig P938, but bought one of theses. I like the beaver tail better for my hand. It runs just fine. I’m glad you did the torture test, I’d never do that to mine 😮😅

    The 1911 grip safety is an ingenious design; it makes the weapon eminently safe and doesn't inhibit function at all. The only reason other manufacturers do not use it is because it is more expensive to produce as are hammers, and safeties in general; hammerless handguns without safeties are less expensive to manufacture which means higher margins for manufactures.

    Hello Andrew and a Happy New Years wish to you! Very good comprehensive review of the Kimber Micro 9. As an owner I was cringing at all the abuse you put that piece through. But appreciate it just the same! I’ve owned mine for just over a year now, have ran approximately 500 rounds through, from the very first out of the box rounds, I’ve had a fantastic shot group, very similar to yours, with at least one through the bullseye with every magazine I run. I’ve used only new name brand ammo, FMJ, hollow point plus Hornady Critical Defense, since day one with just two failure to fire, but easily corrected with a bump. Both happened during a time I was not cleaning after each usage, just to see how far that could go before effecting performance, sort of my own test. That surprisingly took five outings, with about 100 rounds, with just 2 FTF! That I consider not too bad! Oh it’s not like the Glock I have, that has been totally flawless in operation of running over 600 rounds over the course of 3 years. But that pistol is just too big an ungainly for a CC! But my Kimber, in the nice little black leather pocket/inside the waistband holster, is the perfect CC weapon. Pretty to.

    These guns are really hit-or-miss. Half of them work great, and half of them have all kinds of issues. I was really disappointed because the one I had I always had a failure to feed issues. The gun kept jamming constantly. I was really disappointed because it was the most expensive firearm that I ever purchased. If you can get one that is reliable they are amazing for concealed carrying. Nice and light. I had to get rid of mine though because it just wasn't reliable enough. If you want a small Kimber I would recommend the Kimber Evo. Much more consistent

    Today is 2022. The Micro now costs $750-$800 The trigger is long and three stage. (If you were expecting a 1911 type of trigger) The single stack design hurts some, A double stack would have been sweet. Kimber demands you fire it 400 rounds before they will accept it back for work. VS other brands that are cheaper and work out of the box.

    Awesome vid...I've had 2 local ranges complain that their Micro 9 rentals both had to go back to the shop on multiple occasions after heavy HEAVY use by renters...one even had a cracked frame. But this video kinda gives me more faith in the Micro 9 now. I'm desperately looking to get a subcompact 1911 of some kind...so far, the Sig 938 has given me the most encouragement, despite the massive cost. What are your thoughts on compact 45s? The Springfield Range Officer Compact seems manageable (though my rental kept failing to feed every 10th shot, but...it was a rental). I'd like to get a Colt Defender, but nobody has one for rental to test.

    Kimber did a superb job with the Micro 9 and you did Great with the demonstrations as well as the photography & imagery. However, with traditional 1911’s, it’s a Grip safety & not blackstrap safety.
