Don’t forget to always do an inspection on the Evo before buying one, there are sellers out there will not tell you the truth.
I bought my EVO 8 new in 2005. The only mod has been a bigger rear sway bar. It truly can do everything: track days, canyons, wet weather. It just doesn’t care. I have 226k miles on it and it’s still a challenge and a way too much fun. Beware old dudes driving EVOs. We own these because we’ve tried most everything else.

wow!! Awesome! Glad your driving the evo the way it should be driven!
Figured I’d stop by and drop a like and comment. I have 205,000 miles on my 03. Very reliable with no issues. New timing belt and clutch performed two years ago. And all major components are still original. I’ll own it for life at this point.
I agree 100%. These are cars you can buy now and own it for several years, and at the very least, get your money back if you sell.

Great video, I love the Evo. But to answer your question, a C5, C6, or C7 is also a great choice for a versatile car that can do everything well. Corvettes hold many drag/track records and a C6 recently beat a Evo 9 in the Optima Auto Cross event, but damn it was close. Both incredible cars with very different approaches to speed. Each is fun and unique in their own way.

I got my Evo VIII two years ago now for $21,000 CAD ( like 15-16k USD ). 75k miles on body, less than that on the 2.3 stroker, transfer case and trans. Few little quirks to work out still but overall good clean car. So happy I purchased it when I did.

Which looks the best is highly subjective. Which is the best Evo is based on performance on the rally circuit and the IV-VI dominated all. I bought a V as she won both drivers and manufacturers championship in 1998 - Performance, rarity and pedigree. Unfortunately the VII and IXs only have the first two - 🎤 Drop 😎 They look cool but unfortunately the CT9As got owned where it counts… on the track.
Love Evo's. Just got a IV and it is a blast to drive. Cannot wait until the 6 is legal in the US.

Dude I bet your super excited! Congrats!
I pulled my 8 out of a rut beside some guy's house after it sat for 5 years with no hood on it and have since rebuilt just about every part of the car...and I've even made a couple FL to PA trips and hit the Tail of the Dragon with it since... But it's a love hate relationship. Stuff breaks or it wants to pick a day and not run right and you get fed up... But those days it runs great and you do a few pulls or hit a curvy road...Ooo. It's hard to beat.
Love the 8 & 9 trim
My 9 has 61k miles and pretty much stock. I'm conflicted with either keeping it stockish or just doing a full build. Good video bro!

I’m about to get my first lancer 8 it’s not an evo it’s a oz rally edition it’s in really good condition all around 150k miles 3k should I pull through ?
When it comes to the reliability and you said it’s about the build and maintenance I think you need to let these viewers know that this isn’t typical maintenance you gotta replace everything on this car every 20k miles 😂 I’ve went through 6 clutch’s 4 starters 8 cam position sensors 4 o2 sensors 4 new coils and tires every 10k miles a wastegate solenoid switch a shifter cable assembly that birdcaged and left me stranded in the middle of Indiana . 2 transfer cases and a set of synchros and whole new fuse box/distribution block from the fender liner letting water in…. The list goes on and this thing only has 65k on it 😂 you gotta be on top of every aspect of this car is an understatement imo… call it unreliable or call it what you want but if you want something that you will do more driving then fixing this ain’t the one for you.. also most parts have to be special ordered and even Mitsubishi doesn’t make a lot of 8/9 parts anymore so be prepared to have this on the lift or jack stands for a good amount of time waiting.. just my experience good luck out there 😂
