Thank for the ac relay tip. Previous owner of my acura told me ac didn't work. He said properly needed recharged. I schedule for recharged which estimated cost was $100+ dollar. I came this video and find out it was a $11.00 relay. Saved me a lot of money thanks.

I have a 2011 Acura MDX technology package, I purchased the vehicle used in 2014 w 80k miles, I've have had regular maintenance done on the vehicle, had the timing belt changed at 105k and 200k. At 200k had the oil pump and alternator changed. Other than burning oil, its been the best SUV I've owned. I'm hope to get 300k before trading it in.

I just bought a 10. Haven't had an oil issue, as most have stated. Only 118000. Just gotta ask, do you burn oil? I don't think I've put enough miles yet for adding. The Carfax looked like the entity that owned it did regular oil changes. I don't mind adding oil as my last jeep drank heavily. I really like the ride and see that a bunch of owners put over 200 on these.

When you buy an MDX with SH-AWD, you want torque and HP, you want some muscle under the hood. Gas consumption should not be an issue when you appreciate the driving dynamics of the car. Previously, I drove several forms of the CRV, accord, Maxima, Corolla and Mazda. I tend to drive about 12K miles a year just commuting to work and we always have 2 cars in our household. Even drove a friends BMW X5 and the MDX takes the cake for what it has to offer-remind you, I own a base model, as I do not care for fancy useless GPS or air suspension. by the way, i had to replace the motors in my mirrors, as they did stop working-now the new mirrors, i cannot even hear it when they move.

I have an 11 MDX Adv+entertainment with +154,000. I would also add as "possible issues" to double check are: - 07 to 09 had coolant mixing with trans oil with OEM radiator (fixed with 10-13 MDXs) - engine oil consumption with 10-13 MDXs as bad as 1 qt per 1000 miles for 10k OCI (non issue with 07-09 MDXs) - issues with dim or out HID because of ballast going out - door and/or hatch door actuators going out - low range on key fob - leaks with P/S rack and/or pump - corrosion on battery or negative ground - rear camber not in specs - water leak under front floor mats or inside rear hatch side electrical cover because of clogged sunroof drains - fogs or DRL out or cracked lense - 07-09 DVD CD-ROM for navigation system not reading disks - 10-13 hard drive for navi system failing (same type of 2.5 hard drive found in laptops) - 07 to 09 Sport MDXs and 10-13 Adv MDXs Active Damper System with magnetic struts/shocks going out (leaking, sagging, knocking over bumps, harsh ride) - A/C compressor failing - check charging message because of failing alternator - driver side door wiring harness failing (from opening/closing the door so much) - 07-09 had power drain from failing/failed bluetooth modules, not much of an issue with 10-13 MDXs - hood or hatch hydraulic struts going out - rust if you live in the snow belt - UV damaged HIDs cover if you live in the sun belt

If I was the original owner of this suv & had to deal w/ these issues, well okay then I quess that's the breaks for riding in style these days and if it's covered under warranty I wouldn't complain too much...but who in the hell would want to purchase this vehicle used if it has this many "issues" or "possible issues"!?! KNOWING that these suv's are NOT cheap on parts OR easy to work on, either! I guess that's why the '07 to '13 models have depreciated so much and you can find so many in the used car market for dirt cheap right now...excessive oil burning due to faulty pistons/rings AND numerous transmission failures!?! Those are serious issues! C'MON HONDA!?!

Bought my 2010 (std suspension) in 2015 with 120k on it - is currently about 188k. The only failure I've had is the alternator. The mirrors are sometimes wonky, which causes the seat memories to be wonky - no a big deal. Burns oil, but not enough to smoke or stink - again no big deal.

own a base 2011 MDX with SH-AWD. repairs done at 102K miles, new belts, full tube up, new tires, use mobil 1 synthetic, there was a rattle in the heat shield, that was tighten and fixed. never had oil burning in my engine. All coolant has been flushed and replaced. water pump and all hoses replaced. CD/Radio broke at 70K miles-never replaced or fixed. The bluetooth broke, never replaced. I get 17 MPG in city driving and 19.5-20 MPG for highway driving. always used regular gas-awesome car, great handling and the SH=awd is second to none-truly amazing in snow and wet roads. love the way my MDX handles. I called the hummer, just because is always thirsty and its 4550 lbs-but yet it moves fairly quick with 300HP under the hood-from the naturally aspirated engine! so far i am at 108K miles, hope this car can last another 70K miles..

I used to own a 2012 MDX technology package vehicle. It was perhaps the worst MDX model they ever produced. The car had a 3.7 L V6 engine that had a horrible shutter between 20 mph up to 80 mph. Also, a consumed one and ahalf quarts of oil every thousand miles. It turns out the engine was under recall. Acura had pistons and rings replaced free of charge. However, three months later, the problems returned and the oil consumption got worse. I was so sick of the car. I got rid of it for a 2016 RDX which has been magnificent. Beware of the 2012 MDX, and if you are considering one, make sure that the recall work has been done. Otherwise stay away!

Well, if what u said is accurate, it sounds like even if it HAS had the recall work done on the pistons/rings, it doesn't solve the problem & it's STILL going to be an oil-burner 😢

@@burnettl.jacksoniii1040 The symptoms of this problem point to a faulty PCV Valve(or the system is slugged up) and I hear no one mention that. It sounds like the primary failed part was the PCV and is why the piston/rings change didn't permenantly fix it. I think this system is weak on the J Series. 2010 MDX with no oil problems. 287K+ miles. Also use full synthetic oil which helps prevent coking of the oil control ring pack.

I agree with what you were saying. After getting rid of the MDX, I did a deep dive into the problem, and I found that the symptoms pointed to the PCV valve. I wish I knew that when I owned the car, and the dealership offered no solutions besides the recall. If I had still on the vehicle, I would have replaced the PCV valve. I was using synthetic oil, It was a shame as I planned to keep it for a long time.

@@burnettl.jacksoniii1040 I'm looking at adding an additional PCV to the front valve cover to help with blowby and the extra blowby with an aging engine. Still runs fine but it has more blowby varnish in the front valve cover than the rear bank. The way the system is plumbed. I noticed this when I changed both cams out, wiped cam lobes. These gases need to be evacuated from the crankcase or they'll accumulate in particular in the ring pack area. Interesting you were already using syn oil. Anyway, best of Luck to you.

the oil consumption issue is in some cars from years 2010-2013. 2007-2009 ones do not have this issue. MDXs are not for everyone. These cars are for people who money is not an issue for them (wealthy and rich).

just visit the acura dealer, i was checking out 08 mdx sh-awd version with 94k miles with car fax verification. i'm driving my old ass 02 toyota highlander 122k miles. my highlander is a 3.0L v6 with 220hp and 222 lb-ft torque, the 08 mdx is a 3.7L with 300hp and 275 lb‑ft torque. so i was expecting a superior throttle respond from the mdx, well the car was really nice looking, the interior is luxurious and that's all about it lol. the throttle respond was terrible , my old ass highlander has way better throttle respond than that and it's older and has less power and torgue comparing to the mdx.pws is heavy, my old ass highlander pws is like a feather, the AC is not cold , my old ass highlanderAC is freaking cold.the only better in term of performance is the handling when turning the curve, the awd ofcourse is better than the 2wd of my old ass highlander. over all i was disappointed , i guess the old dog will stay with me cause it just out performed a sh-awd 300hp fancy suv lol!😂😂😂😂
