Should you buy a REBREATHER? - KISS Sidewinder

Ғылым және технология

In this video I explore what it is that I like so much about the KISS Sidewinder. Sidemount rebreathers are cool and I think the winder is my favorite. If you have any questions about rebreathers or CCR training, ask me about it in the comments. I teach through Jack's Diving Locker in Kona, Hawaii. Link to the course details can be found here: jacksdivinglocker.com/en/rebr...
THIS VIDEO IS NOT A REPLACEMENT FOR ACTUAL REBREATHER (or any type of diving) TRAINING. Training must be conducted in person, by a qualified instructor.

    Fun video! I did a tryout with the Sidewinder and was amazed how easy it was to fit to my Xdeep wing and start diving. It felt comfortable and streamlined within minutes. Also love the simplicity of the unit, which means less to break or maintain. Sure eCCR has some benefits but in a cave environment I like a simple machine that I can understand and doesn't task load me to drive manually. I can see myself buying soon.

    Oh sick! I didn't know we had any KISS divers on the East side! The shop I work with (Jack's) is a KISS dealer so hit us up if you need parts or anything. I'd love to come do a dive at some point, got any cool spots for CCR?

    This is hilarious. Awesome unit! I'm gonna demo this unit and a JJ. I'm leaning more towards the SW due to simplicity and low profile for cave diving

    The JJ is awesome, you'd be well served by either unit. My favorite thing about the sidewinder is that it's really fun to dive. Carrying crap tons of gear down to the water on a rocky coastline sometimes has me forgetting that this shit is supposed to be fun. The sidewinder is just so effortless and playful underwater, it's a lot of fun.

    Awesome video! Kinda unfair comparison though between oc and ccr on deco times. Breathing air at 130 when it has a max depth of 187 (@1.4) and on ccr you are breathing ideal gas based on 1.2 or 1.3. I’ve found most of the time I get out at the same time as oc plans, or the oc gets out a touch earlier if using better gasses due to breathing higher ppo2 (1.4 active, 1.6 passive).

  • @DiveVibe

    @DiveVibe

    2 жыл бұрын

    Well rebreather divers have always been cheaters, havent we? lol Yeah, you're right. When accelerated deco is involved, the delta between an oc and cc profile does tend to narrow. I typically still find myself done with deco at least a few minutes earlier than my oc buddies, but I wouldn't exactly say they're bothered by the extra 3 minutes and I'm typically happy to add a little safety stop.

  • @eriknodland8352

    @eriknodland8352

    Same. Especially as it’s almost never perfectly square profiles so that constant ppo2 really helps. The big difference I see and where it really shows is caves especially in that 60-100’ range where there is a good bit of up and down. My deco evaporates at 60’ while they are still piling on.

    So a follow up to my previous e question about why not the Hollis Prism 2. / Why did you switch BC’S ? X Deep to Katana?

  • @DiveVibe

    @DiveVibe

    Жыл бұрын

    Nothing wrong with the prism 2. It's a solid unit, my buddy dives one. I bought a katana because the shop I teach through sells Hollis. I'd honestly use either. The xdeep is probably a little more robust, but the k2 is ready for the sidewinder out of the box. Just trade offs.

    I dove and taught poseidon for years. Had too many issues where I had to send it back to the factory. So I switched to Kiss. I still have my poseidon but I removed the electronic module and converted it to an mCCR with a needlevalve. Its pretty cool, but I just enjoy the sidewinder so much, so it doesnt get used much.

    You can use a little silicone grease on your mustache. I use a mask with a stiff skirt so it applies more pressure to my mustache, so I dont need the grease.

    Great video until you showed MultiDeco with a planned dive to 130ft for 20-minutes. That's a simple dive that should be made on EAN28. Even assuming a square profile, it's a few minutes of deco. Lastly, what's your gas consumption that you need dual AL80s for that type of dive? Anyway, CCRs have their place, but your example is far and away a bad one. Once again, well done video and nicely edited otherwise!

  • @DiveVibe

    @DiveVibe

    That's fair. It was overly simplified. Just trying to highlight the fact that deco is typically more efficient.
