yes.. yes u should!
I had 4 Jaguars in my life ( XJS, XK8, X-TYPE and XK ) and never had any major problems with any of them , just fantastic cars purring at 40 mph and roaring at 150 mph ! Loved every one of them and adore my current XK 5L Portfolio. I also kept my 2004 X-Type estate, originally bought when we bought a dog that could not fit in our XK8, our dog has now passed away but kept the car as the space inside is insane, so convenient. The X-Type is just a very convenient armchair on wheels and the XK is a fun and exciting wild animal :)
I loved my XKR (coupe). Way more practical than the convertible. No issues with reliability but it did chew through tyres (I can't imagine why). Had to sell it, as being white haired, I was startig to look a bit sad instead of cool. Hey ho, that's life. Thanks for a great episode, Matt.

I bought my 07 XK last year and haven’t regretted it for a second. Yes, there’s been some wear and tear to deal with - it’s a 15 year old car at the end of the day - yet overall it’s still cheaper to run than the 340i Saloon it replaced… and you can’t beat the noise of a naturally aspirated proper V8.

I've loved the XK forever. Timeless design. I still remember the openeing scenes of the XKs review on Top Gear, with Jezza sat behind a silver example with the stunning Yorkshire Dales backdrop. Simply stunning!!
Love these. And compared to the contemporary Audi/BMW they're no more unreliable and are probably more reliable in many cases
This is my go to car. I bought a 2013 BRG with only 16,000miles. I prefer it over my previous CL500, X6 and Panamera S. It is my daily driver. No hydraulics to fail or turbos to worry about. Simply a gorgeous car which will be a future classic..

Love the XK. The XKR was the icing on the cake. Classy beauty. Looks good with roof up too. Sounds fabulous under load too. Another great video Matt 👌👏I love all the JLR products. I just do 🤷🏻
There you go! That exhaust note was all the music you’re ever going to need. Beautiful car in (in my opinion) the best colour. Fantastic! Another great VT Matt 👍🏻
I have had a 2008 4.2 XKR for the last 3 years as a weekend car. No reliability issues. V. Comfortable. As stated puts a smile on my face every time.
Used to think the lights on this gen were over styled but they have aged really well. The whole car just gets better with age.
I’ve had my 2012 facelift for nearly 10 years and used as my daily family car with 2 kids and a dog for the first 7 years. It has been very reliable and sounds amazing. As someone already pointed out, they never got the 8 speed box

I purchased a black xk convertible (portfolio spec), so not turbo, back in 2012. It never ceases to make me smile and all your comments are spot on, but hey when did anyone buy a car for it infortaiment system? I only drive it 6 months of the year but once it goes away I look forward to it's return. The convertibles are not a common sight and still turn heads wherever you go. It is utterly reliable and the major purchase you should budget for is tyres because with all that power its very easy to get through tread. I will never sell it and will pass it on to my children - a true classic.

Excellent review, as always!
Wonderful cars. I prefer the 4.2 supercharged. It's a little more primitive, but love that. Also love the J gate shifter instead of the iDrive Style dial. F type is an amazing car but more of a Porsche 911 alternative. The XK is more user friendly day-to-day. Far more comfortable. They're all terrific cars. Even the base model naturally aspirated. Fantastic. Incredible value for money. Also a budget-friendly alternative to a Bentley Continental GTC without all of the fussiness.
Love that exhaust sound and camera!
I am very proud of my 2006 XKR. No mechanical issues after using almost daily and honestly not too bad on fuel. I had to replace the front subframe which was £1,000 from Jaguar and another £500 to fit it. Should last for many years now, and I will certainly keep it for ever. I can recommend them to anyone, They put a smile on your face and big jaguar pawprints on your soul.

That's the way to go: Jaguar Pawprints on your soul!
The older 2006-2008 late 4.2 is cheap as chips, a bit more reliable than the 5.0. After driving all 4 versions, 4.2/r and 5.0/r I went for the 4.2 base simply as the aesthetics and exhaust were just as good.
I think Jaguar missed a trick by binning the two V6 diesel prototypes they were testing, apparently there wasn't the market for a diesel G.T. Seems nobody told BMW, judging by the number of 640ds I see on the road. You are quite right about Jaguar dropping the XK and XKR too early, the F- type is a completely different animal. The reason they dropped the XK is because the F-type is produced on the old XK production line. There were rumors about a replacement based on the next XJ chassis, but that seems to have died with all this electrification nonsense.
Great video. I have the 4.2 supercharged version and use it to go to work and back. Just a classy car.
Well my little Car freind for the past 18 months i have been thinking about my next car My Currant 2014 XK would have been changed i 12 months time I have looked at Lexus because of your review and i have looked at DB11 both used ar around 4 years old Today I went to a indipendant Jag specialist and i talked through my choice of cars and my choice is now to keep my currant XK I have always loved it and it makes me smile after talking to the specialist its a keeper and in future it will be a classic he has said the same as you they are quite reliable and can be fixed at low cost compared to the Aston whos repair costs can be very high I just wanted to thank you I like your reviews a lot plain simple and at times funny So Me and My XK convertible are going to age together I quite like that it fees good

Great video! I've had my 07 XK for 2 years now and I only realised the other day that I've actually stopped looking at cars. I went through lots of different cars (Porsche 944, Mustang, old BMW 6 series (I prefer older cars than new) etc) but I could never settle. But I now realise that I have settled with my XK coupe. It's sexy. It makes me feel good. It sounds awesome and, as you said, the design is just sublime. Utterly perfect. Pretty. Purposeful. Not shouty or gregarious. It's classy. I'd be interested to see what you think of the F-Type. Keep up the good work.

Thanks for another XKR review Matt always a pleasure to see and hear these cars ! Definitely one of the prettiest Jag's produced in a long time. OK the interior is a bit dated but I think there are so may other pluses about the car it can be forgiven for that. IMO there are colours other than black that suit the XKR better. How about a review on an XFR next?
Never thought I'd want an R but thinking it might be a good investment to have in the garage and just put on the road two or three months a year? Got an early (nearly put old) standard 4.2 soft top, we love it. Kept it almost standard that's what they deserve, just added an automatic roof opener (three touches of the unlock button on the key fob and it opens, three on the lock it closes) a system to put rear quarter lights up when high speed cruising and a bluetooth receiver to stream music. Lovely car, just makes us smile when we open the garage door. PS changed your barber or have they sharpened their scissors 😊
Great video, many thanks. I've owned my 08 XK for 2 years now, and it has been all pleasure so far. It looks stunning, it has a really throaty roar from the get-go and (so far) has been utterly reliable. Slightly expensive for tyres, but on the whole, it is cheaper to run than my company car was.
That's a proper sunny day car. Love those.
Every Jag I have ever owned (XJS, XKR) has put a big smile on my face every time I drove it. Makes me wonder why I haven't got a Jag in the garage now.

As soon as you retrofit CarPlay to the thing the infotainment will be bang up to date. So far I’ve done my discovery 4 and my wife’s a5. Simple to do, cheep and makes a massive difference.
Great car and still on my shopping list. I test drove an 05 XK8 which was good fun, but the model you are driving looks a lot better.
I personally loved the older version, because I’m a S-Type nostalgic fan.. But the sound of that engine.. My god… Really nice piece of jewelry 👍🏻
Well I could overlook the Aldi indicators and screen for the overall package. Definitely a future classic.
A good friend of mine changes his (luxury) cars the way I change cameras. It means that I get to ride in some very tasty motors. He used to own an XKR convertible, and it was a cracking motor. No rattles at all, unlike his Porsche 911 rag top. He has also owned two Merc 500SL's, the rag top and the folding tin top, an Alfa, an SLK 55 V8 and a Lexus LC 430. Of them all, my favourite was the XKR.
Love your work 👍

That a wonderful exhaust note!
You look so good in that hehe :) Do love a Black XKR convertible, it's such a sinister but Gorgeous shape.
Very informative video again with a great car. Just a suggestion for your videos is to include MRSP price from new and other car options, in this case a BMW 645i or a Porsche 911 (997.2 C2S).
A guy I worked with a few years back had one of these in a gun metal grey colour, in person it really was something to behold.
I have had my 08 XK as my daily for 5 years so far. 170k miles on it, and love the bloody thing. Within the next 2 years I will be buying another, maybe a 2015 model. Love the things, especially the auto blip down change in sport mode😁🤗
Did a bit of digging around the various reliability surveys, and the XK (X150) was the most reliable car in its class (large GT), and by a country mile too. Not sure what you mean about parts bin special Matt? Other than the window switch / mirror control unit (shared with Volvo and Aston Martin) the rest of the interior is bespoke to Jaguar and most of it unique to the XK. The infotainment systems were of their time, and I’d guess any car from 10 - 15 years ago will suffer the same? Good review 😊👍

Great car, have a 2010 coupe myself. 23mpg over 8k miles driving spiritedly. Make sure you have spare cash for maintaining though. Not unreliable, but fluids need changing and bushings will wear fast as its still a heavy car. Looking back id buy the non SC, still plenty of power, and without the issues of the E-diff and no supercharger maintainance to worry about.

One of my favorite Jags! The XKR is a Jem and I actually kinda want one but I'm looking to get a S500/S560 convertible or S63 AMG convertible so definitely won't have use for one🤔 although still a understated beauty!
Thanks Matt...This is a car on my bucket list for the ideal weekend tourer. After considering a few alternatives I've unsurprisingly found the XKR back at the top of the list and so the search is on for the sub £18K previously well cared for model...I'm sure its out there and I'll let you know when I find it. I do intend to join the Jaguar drivers/owners club for good advice, access to the right garage/specialists and parts. I'm reckoning that the "best of both worlds" in terms of value, reliability, quality, running costs etc would be a 2008/9 model ( I like the ideal of the J gate gear selector and would have to forgive the crap infotainment screen system and use google maps 📱📱) ....oh and it would have to have the tan/light interior. Thanks for this and all your videos T

Did you read my mind? Spent the last week, while on Covid stay-at-home, been scrolling the market for them. They're Boss.
I always thought that the original XK should have been the F type. It was a worthy successor to the E type, it followed the lines yet had it's own look. These cars still command a high price so they can't be all bad. My XF has been reliable so I wouldn't hesitate to buy one of these.
