Another great review of one of my fav SUVs. I really REALLY like the Atlas, it has a capable Haldex Gen5 AWD system, very good trans, proven VR6 engine that needs a bit more power, lots of room and cargo capacity. I gave the very comfortable Atlas a Test Drive and was close to buying one but I wanted to get my first Pickup and went with a Honda Ridgeline instead. The Atlas is still on my very short list of what to buy next. btw: I just took my second test drive in the Nissan Armada and love this Big High Value Beast, maybe Raiti Rides can take a Review Ride in Armada.

@@catfisherboy I sold back my diesel Touareg and got nearly what I paid for it after putting on close to 40K miles, that's when I test drove the Atlas but I wanted to get my first pickup. The Ridge is a GREAT SHAWD very innovated Pickup that I put a Diamondback bed cover on, love the engine and trans, got no complaints but like you I have a need for more interior space. The Ridge is a fully loaded 2018 with only 5K miles on it so I'm crazy for even considering a new ride. The Atlas has got nearly the same cargo capacity as the massive Armada and much better MPG but the Armada is a BIG bang for the SUV Buck and its a Towing beast.

I had a 2018 Atlas premium sel, i loved it until.... i had to bring it in for like 12 times, mostly sensor issues, roof leaking, gasoline injection pump and coolant leaking. Drove it for 30k miles, its so good on the road esp far distance ride cuz its spacious. Its like 15-17mpg in city and 19-22 on highway. I died from paying so much gasoline money. Everything else, its so nice, it does okay on the bumpers, its fast too. Oh, one incredible thing you want to know, in the curvy road i can hit 90mph i mean curvy... its planted right in, esp in rain too. Hope that helps

Joe I am currently renting an Atlas V6 SE. while we really like it for the most part, I do have a few Zonks myself. Something I discovered today while the cruise was on. Of the cars I’ve owned, while in cruise mode, if you hit the minus, you coast. Not the Atlas, it brakes! Very shocking to see that happen. Another Zonk is unlocking the car to enter. I used to be able to touch my hand by the handle to unlock it with the fob in my pocket. Now I have to use the fob to unlock it manually. Will have to read up on that in the manual. I own an 06 Highlander (in the body shop) and the Atlas is larger in every sense. My daughter has a Yukon and it’s the same exact length as the Atlas but the Yukon of course is about 6” taller, but inside the Atlas is packaged better.

The Atlas is Alex on Auto's favorite SUV bc he likes the sharp edge design. I tend to agree, very classy & Macho! It's a stand out amongst all the other generic & feminine styling SUV's all over the place! I think the only other sharped SUV is the Range Rover which is also another German vehicle I believe. However, weighing almost 5,000 lbs requires a turbo to give it a much needed 100 bump in HP! And VW, would you please add a little more luxury stylin to the interior like chrome covered door speakers & little more contrast stitching throughout the cabin? One more thing Volkswagen, if you're paying attention to consumers here in the USA, 4 motion should come standard on that beautiful Beast!

With all that new technology VW is still using an engine designed in the late 90's first used in 2005 to power this heavy vehicle. the top of the line VR6 puts out 276HP and 266 TQ in a vehicle that weighs between 5600 and 6000 pounds. You may be better off buying the 2.0T and adding a 1000 dollar tune so you can get 300 HP and 320 TQ. Stomp on the gas pedal and your 0-60 mph time should come in around 8 seconds, but longer with more passengers on board. Love the look, dont care for the old engines.

How would you stack the Atlas SEL vs the 2020 Explorer XLT? I'm a current Explorer owner (2014) but I don't want to spend 44 or 45k for my next vehicle. SEL R-Lines around me on the lot for 39-40k, and I feel like you get a lot more features, etc vs an Explorer for the same price. I think Ford is a little insane with the prices on these new Explorers - I paid 34k new for my current XLT with twin panel moonroof and nav and AWD.

resell value of the atlas is brutal. I unfortunately know since I am going to be trading mine in after a year of headaches. But do you really think KIA is going to be strong in that dept? Haven't those vehicles notoriously fallen apart as they age and resell plummeted? I don't know that I could trust spending $40k + on the brand. But I did on the VW - Man was I stooooopid! LOL.

very nice review. I will agree that it is a very nice car for the money when its not in the shop. Very under powered to a fault, especially for the poor gas mileage. We knew this going in as we were willing to give up a little power up for the interior layout and warranty but its terribly under powered to a level of annoyance. I will say that its a beautiful car. It drives very nice, quiet and smooth and the interior space and layout is best in class. Unfortunately, That is about all of the positives I can say. We bought a 19' se w/tech v6 4 motion rline 13 months ago and it now has 35k on it. with in the first 8 months is was great, in the last 5 it has had 4 warranty repairs and a coolant issue that still isn't fixed( been to the dealer 3x). I'm seriously considering filing a lemon law suit as VW corp is completely worthless and not willing to stand behind their product.

Something to give it more power and the part makes the weird noise.
