SHOULD WE SAVE THE MANUAL TRANSMISSION?

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

With Toyota announcing the next BMW Supra would have a manual transmission people became more excited for the car. However, I flashed back to a movement that seems to have died down over the years. It was the Save The Manuals movement. I'm sure you remember a few years ago seeing the Save the Manuals hats, t-shirts and bumper stickers. This announcement seems to have slightly revitalized this movement. However, the question needs to be asked, "should we save the manual?"
In this video I look at why we have this attachment to the manual over the autos and I attempt to answer the question, do we need to save the manual?

All of my daily drivers are automatic cars. All of my sports cars have been manuals. I have owned several different versions of the Toyota Supra and they were all manual transmissions. Now, I will never drive my 6-speed manual GT500 as a daily car or in heavy traffic. That would be the least fun way of enjoying it. However select the right road and time, and nothing beats manually shifting over 600 horsepower! The other major advantage of manual transmissions that should be mentioned is that they can hold a lot more power reliably than their automatic counterpart. This makes them great for modifying usually twice the factory horsepower rating, or in some cases three to four times! They are also more reliable due to their lack of electronics. If you can only afford one car I can easily make the case that it should be automatic or dct. If you have the choice to have a dedicated daily driver and a weekend fun car, you should have a manual transmission!

Short answer; no, unless the money is there. Car manufactures are “listening to enthusiasts” and releasing several performance M/T cars but are the numbers there sales wise? Also ya the purist’s in any community ruin it for the average person.

@@JDArcher yup! I love older M/T cars and understand they are special in so many ways but modern cars coming in M/T just don’t care for, no real upside imo, also its laughable watching my wifes 2021 Mazda CX-9 blow past someone banging gears. THAT SAID a new STi, type R, GTR, RX7, NSX, Z, 86, Etc sure why not offer in both and let the $ and performance talk
