Should've Been One Of The Best Rappers EVER! What Stunted Meek Mill's Growth?

Today’s feature really could’ve been one of the greatest rappers of all time. Really. That’s not to say he’s not popular, or rich, or even still pretty good and doing solid numbers. But as the sayings go, with great power comes great responsibility. With great talent and opportunity comes great expectations. The expectations for Meek Mill in 2011 was not to become a good rapper. He was supposed to have been the best. At least of the 2010s. Let’s not get it twisted, what you see we have in hip hop today as far as so called street rappers… Meek Mill was the father of it all, and he came at the perfect time to do so. The 2000s is considered one of the golden ages of rap and hip hop, but by the end of the decade it was time for something new. Something new, but not anything too far off that the generation being ushered out couldn’t champion. What I mean is, the difference between he and the new generation of street rappers is, Meek could actually rap. Like rap rap. So him being the torch bearer of an era of great MCs, that took pride in bars, originality, style, cadence, similes, metaphors, entendres and stories was natural. Meek was cut from a golden era’d cloth and torched in the new young, aggressive, trouble attracting, against the old rules, pain in his music street rap artist. I think you get the point of how much talent and opportunity Meek Mill had, and understand why today, he’s not only looked as a joke or meme on the internet (thanks Drake) but that his career even weighs on the shocking side of disappointment. Is he a star in the rap game? Yes, but then again anyone could be a star in the rap game. Three reasons Meek Mill’s growth was stunted

Meek should’ve won that beef. I said it then and I’m still saying it now. For a dude who been rapping on the gritty street corners o Philly since 2003, losing to somebody like Drake is embarrassing for him and should’ve never happened. Should’ve been light work for Meek. Should’ve never lost to a song like Back 2 Back knowing where he came from. He played too much with Drake and was fuckin wit them percs too much around that time. And it costed him.

While I didn't have high hopes from Meek I do believe he fumble the bag as being one of the few East Coast cats...2010s....who appeal to the South & West coast fan. He didn't have the weight of being a NYC lyricist or the ghost of any rapper from the boroughs haunted his career. But I believe the Drake Beef, the foolishness on his IG page & the fact that he never released that significant album is what stunted his growth.

I enjoy this series but you are very generous with labeling rappers or their work the "greatest" or "top 3" or classic. I know some people who went into Albums/records/rappers with high expectations off your videos and were completely turned off hiphop, cause they felt "if this is the best hiphop has to offer, why bother"? You might not realise it yet but you now have a voice in hiphop and you actually influence people's decisions regarding the genre so you've got to let them know it's in your opinion when proclaiming something great, because people who don't know better would think its a concensus in hiphop.

I definitely see the growth stunts even with the success he’s had I definitely expected more when I first heard DC 1 in 2011 he lived out 85% of his potential which will make most pause when they hear stunted growth? “Like how?” I think not bossing up and not signing his own artist to Dreamchaser Records hurt em Snupes passing may have scared him from not trying again I don’t know. But with that meek still has a top 5 stamp in 2010s era lyricalweights but just out of the Top 3 much respect to em either way but he could’ve been #1

B.S. Im from Phiily and It hurt my soul to witness, then the $20 given to 8 kids on video was the last straw. Dont EVER forget ya ribs were touchin with dirty braids just like those kids. I think Meek Mandela has gotten as big as he was ever going to be and his growth wasn't really stunted. His social media antics, playground-esque responses to Drake, and his propensity to hypocrisy turned people off him and knocked him down a few pegs. To me, he doesn't have the acumen, charisma, or "it factor" to achieve much longevity in the industry or is someone who was ever going to attain superstar status. He's just a good underdog/rags to riches story. B.o.B. and Kid Cudi are much more deserving of "Stunted Growth" episodes. Keep up the good work!
