Would I be able to do this for a full bumper to accept newer model headlights ? Like scan the “old “ bumper and the new one and mold a hybrid to accept the new headlights but the old mounts are the same ?

Yes please! How do you go about processing the mesh? Do you recreate the meshes to poly surfaces or rebuild the entire model from scratch using the 3d scan?

Did you take the opportunity to take the sag out from the original that occurs over time? Looks like you might've but you didn't mention it. Mine has sagged and I'm going to have to make a bracket for the centre to hold it straight. Also, JDM 180sx "50/50" front parker/indicator lights don't belong on a Silvia front end

They're S13 parts, they fit. This whole frontend is a swap anyway, the car's a USDM 240sx, not a Silvia, being pure was out the door a while ago.

But in the end it looked awful? You'd need to use filler, sand it a bunch and perhaps even make a mold and maybe use resin or something to make a super nice finish?

  • @illumaesthetic

This is just prototyping. Having a correctly fitting part is a lot harder than making it look nice.

Finish doesn't matter at this point. He now has mount locations and dimensions, so can refine the finish & it also allows for custom designs 🤙

IN some way why not, of course it is totally wrong if you returned and at this world it would not be miracle that people would do that. But this 3D printing is cool, when now day oem car brand´s are not product some parts, so it is cool when someone will printed those/will do

And it's not a very good scanner for sharp edges with car parts. Requires a lot of cleanup. I ended up with an Einscan HX and it's far better and almost half the price.
