    It's been insanity that we've kept this group coming back with the exact same 3 C's (core, coach & culture) for the past 6-7yrs! Are Leaf shareholders going to want any differences knowing full well that profits are skyrocketing with the individual success of Marner & Matthews? The truth is until we ALL STOP feeding this monster we can only point the finger at ourselves...

    It was insanity to hire Dubas, insanity to overpay all those forwards and build your teamaround offense like its a rec ball hockey league.....insanity to keep this together ,7,8,9 years...my question to leaf fans is ..WHY DIDN"T YOU SAY THIS FIVE YEARS AGO??? @@danielmaloney946 that's what I *HAVE* been saying (sadly in the minority) for well over 5yrs now! The sad truth is the Toronto media and fans who only watch game updates (but not the games and especially not the playoffs) themselves actually believe that Matthews, Marner, Nylander & Tavares are ''worth'' these top salaried contracts despite their glaring weaknesses in the playoffs and in tight checking situations.

    The so-called "Shanaplan" crashed and burned/died a long time ago. At this point, if Shanahan is not going to be replaced or moved to another role in MLSE, then that would speak volumes as to how MLSE really feels about winning a Stanley Cup in Toronto. Signing Marner to an extension would also be a psychotic move. The Leafs clearly have a dysfunctional ownership model, with far too many people given a say in the direction of that hockey franchise. Pelley needs to be given the green light to clean house, and also give the green light to Treliving to make bold managerial decisions. Shanahan, Keefe, the entire coaching staff, and several roster players all need to be dumped during the off-season, otherwise the Leafs will simply stage an instant replay of this season's first round playoff exit to the Bruins in less than 365 days from now.

    I feel gutted for Morgan. He was the only honest one in the group, which is disappointing. John Tavares will go down as the worse captain in franchise history. He seemed in denial and clearly not a leader you can win with by any means. To regress that much at 33 is insane, but to utilize buzz words throughout his tenure makes it so much worse. They gave him captaincy as a ploy to sign here, while drafting a generational talent. Giving a nobody, literally a nobody in Dubas who hasn’t accomplished anything at the highest level this covenant talent pool makes me sick. He hired his friend to coach, gave everything and anything to 16 given his birth certificate, signed and gave picks away for rentals who has no interest in signing or couldn’t be sign due to cap hell he and Shanny created was like watching a bad movie. Keefe had no business being a coach this long. Even worse, the audacity of Shanahan to continue on with his failed plan and extending him was beyond the scope of insanity. Somebody from the MLSE board of directors, stop the madness. I know you guys have enough money to careless about this fuckery, but you own the team. Do something about it. Us consumers are dying here watching this team fail yr after yr. And for the love of god - despite thinking his a deity, move the FUCK ON from Mitch Marner. That alone, with salvage some hope from this fan base. Nylander and Matthews, god willing don’t follow the same path of decline as JT, only have 4 yrs left of prime hockey, hopefully more (JT traumatized me) do it right this time. Learn from past mistake and move on from false promises from this so called president of hockey Ops and I would gladly upgrade my cable and phone plan. Enough with the Gong show. Focus on winning a Stanley Cup. The Leafs are the most recognizable brand in hockey, disgrace by greed and bad decisions. 57 yrs. Enough is enough.

    I'd say you don't have to worry about Nylander and Matthews falling off any time soon, Matthews has more talent than JT ever did so even out of his prime he can still be a 40+ goal scorer with a great 2 way game and Willy has only gotten better with age and the game he plays lends itself to longevity. I'd feel bad for Morgan if this dude actually showed up in the series though, outplayed by McCabe he looked nothing like last year Reilly

    This issue arises from the fact that there are two dominant owners, Bell Media and Rogers Communications, alongside a minority owner, Larry Tanenbaum. The Leafs lack a decisive leader at the helm who is willing to shake things up. If it were any other team, heads would roll without hesitation.

  • @mattrix4200

    @mattrix4200

    No. The MAIN issue arises from a city ''fan-base'' that gives TML enterprises record profits and then whines non-stop about their team not going anywhere in the playoffs. Do you think the shareholders care? Do you think Tanenmaum or Bell CARE how they make their money? No. You can't wait to get your hands on the inflated season tickets, to pay for the stupidly overpriced food & merchandise, so you can join the rest of the sold out audience in cheering individual trophy winners like Matthews & Marner... If you were making money off the obvious stupidity of the ''fans'' you wouldn't change a thing either. You'd put your best media spin on it, you'd hype it up, you'd make everyone think you're doing a great job to provide a winning team.

    At this point the Leafs have to cut bait even if it means not getting full value. It's clear for both the player and the team that running it back should be a fireable offence. Whether it's a deal for a big strong underperforming D-man on a big deal, for a 2nd pair D-man and prospects+picks, or just for another forward in need of a change of scenery. Its clear that this team just doesnt work as constructed.

    Can some one please explain to me why mitch isn't worth the money he got?? The guy has played amazingly even in the playoffs! Just look at his career playoff stats he's got the most points out of any active leaf, has more hits and blocked shots then nylander, best +/- out of the core 4, has the same amount of penalty minutes as nylander, plays in every situation because he has good hockey sense and defensive tendencies. I say he's definitely worth the money and he's the second best player on the leafs besides matthews.

    The problem Brad Treliving faces is a bit tricky. Mitch Marner has a full NMC while the ideal solution would be to trade him in the off season for team needs. If no contract deal is reached, he could walk into the sunset for nothing as a UFA at the end of next season. Marner holds all of the cards unless it is made clear that he is not in the team's future plans. Losing him for nothing to free agency is an undesirable outcome but not near as undesirable as continuing with a top heavy, playoff inept cap structure. Treliving needs to play hardball here. If Marner does not waive his NMC to facilitate a trade, the only choice Treliving has is to let Marner play his final contract year without an extension.

    Not necessarily. If the Leafs do decide to move on from Marner, then he runs the risk of not getting an 8 years contract which he can only get with the team he is signed with. I don't see Marner making $11M when he's 34 so it would be worth his while to maximize his earnings by accepting a trade.

    @@stuffnsuch631 - Treliving playing hardball can take many forms with civil discussion about the realities Marner faces taking precedent. If that fails, benching should definitely appear on the discussion horizon. Marner is heading into the last year of his contract and if Toronto does not extend him, or if he refuses to waive his NMC, any reduced role with the Leafs will have an enormous impact on his future earnings. My fear is that Treliving caves and extends Marner because he is taken in by his plea to stay in Toronto.

    Decisive action? The team is owned by Bell and Rogers. In what other universe would this happen? Decisive action should have been taken after the Montreal debacle, but no three more chances and counting. This series wasn't lost on Saturday. It was lost last week and we're still all waiting for the "next moves!" What a joke. It's definitely not about winning or even competing, for goodness sake.

Haaa his face showed it's not believing his BS...Where's your head at man!? By the way where was Reilly this plaoff round? Good injury prone goalies can't get you far in the plaoffs either. Coach outcoached for consecutive years x5. No doubt the leafs has come a long way however to progress from this level change is mandatory. Bertuzzi out...Marner out...for BLOCKBUSTER TRADE! Older defense players out...goalies situation is a ginormous black whole...Robertson is a power play sniper that should be played as such. Set him up for one timers for God's sake. Nobody wants to shoot on the powerplay? Can't score if you don't shoot!!! Ovechkin only had one move...shoot on net and look where that got him. 2 power play units with 2 shooters...Matthews 1st line with a playmaker to set him up. 2nd power play unit Robertson with playmaker to set him up for the shot. All we have seen is over playing the puck, over handling the passing, turnovers and NO SHOTS ON NET!!! OVER & OVER AGAIN & AGAIN & yet Keefe continued to play overplay the same 1st powerplay unit all year round. REMARKABLE how nothing changed but expectations to do better. CHANGE or DIE and they CHOKED & DIED AGAIN! Surely reality must sink into the stubborn minded in the Leafs organization this time around.

    And how do you plan on resolving the issue that his other ''Bieber buddies'' (Nylander & Matthews) will suddenly feel ''less motivated'' with their effort after Marner is gone? I don't think you realize how crappy this situation actually is and what type of toxic culture Dubas created on this team. No coach, no GM, no management team has more power in Toronto than the Bieber Buddies until they're ALL gone.

  • @kieranmills1548

    @@mattrix4200 Nylander & Matthews are both great players who have issues ( less so Nylander) in playoffs with new management this can be fixed, Tavares still has one year left on his contract and is up there in age and so keeping him for less is a non-issue, as long as we build a team, not Matthews in but Woll, Matthews, and Nylander building out from there with new coaching and new management I think it will be fine. Getting rid of Auston Matthews the best goal scorer in the league right now and Nylander the player who scored us the most points in the playoffs would be the wrong move, yes they have issues but issues that can be fixed with new players, new management, and new team culture. fixing them is better than trading them to fight against us. besides the underlying issue is cap space with Mitch Marner gone and John Tavares's contract pay being reduced next time he reigns and the cap going up soon enough the power and leverage they hold will be heavily reduced. So maybe I don't know just how bad the situation is but at least I'm thinking critically about the future and not making poor decisions based on emotions.
