I know the title is a little harsh, especially from me (who is generally pretty positive/optimistic). I think her kit, scaling, and some constellations are a little strange, but overall there are some specific use cases where I think she'd be viable. Of course, if you don't have a big selection of heroes to begin with, she can be an overall decent healer/electro applicator. I like Kuki as a character, but I question some decisions in her mechanics.

i think it would change a lot if she was pyro

honestly she's a difficult character to build, so I get your troubles. she's ok as a healer and basically works like a Barbara without the emergency heals. I tried her full em and it fixed her dmg cuz I got some big overloads. and she can sorta work as a on field overload or physical dps. which actually makes sense with her lore since she's the deputy of the gang (supporting role) but she almost works better as an onfield carry. I do wish her burst did more dmg but rn im enjoying trying all kinds of wacky builds on her.

She's quite easy to build. You main focus on HP. And after that you just put some ER/Crit/EM/ATK but most likely ER. So she heals and do some good reaction damage and her burst do some damage eventually. Set you just put 4p tenacity or maiden and it's gg.

@@relax2413 when people said difficult to build, they meant to make the character perform well in their role. Despite being a healer, she didn't heal much, I've watch many whale bashing on Kuki. If the player with such good investment said such as, then our opinion doesn't matter as much. And some people said "doesn't matter imma just make her a DPS physical". Good for you, you do you, but it doesn't distinguish the fact that Kuki doesn't play her role perfectly with how she is right now.

She seems like such a missed opportunity with her. She could've been so cool.

Shinobu really highlights the problem with some of the units we’ve been getting lately. Ever since Inazuma too many characters feel ‘incomplete’. Like they’ve not been properly tested. Split scaling, some parts of their kit just not working with the rest of it, some parts even being unneeded, or just having very low scalings. These are all common issues that can be identified in the characters that released after Inazuma and it’s been more apparent with 4 stars. The only post Inazuma 4 stars who feel complete are gorou and yunjin. Though Sara can good in her own niche, she needs her constellations to do that well. The common thing I see with them is that they’re supposed to be side-grades or alternatives already existing 4 stars, but most of the time, they end up feeling like downgrades. While thoma technically has one of the strongest shields, you likely won’t practically be able to achieve that. That and he has some er issues, which can be problematics since half his kit is in his burst. So in terms of shielding, diona is almost always a better pick as she gives a decent shield on a short cooldown and you can get more uptime with sac bow, plus she gives heals. What about as a dps? Well, we all know how terrible his damage is so I’ll skip over it. And lastly as an enabler, how good is he? Well, considering Xiangling has more consistent pyro application, high personal damage and is given for free, he’s just a downgrade. You can try applying these same criteria to other units. What they specialize in, their damage, and their support capabilities(buffing, enabling) and you’ll get similar results. So considering already existing units do what they do better, what real reason is there to use them(not considering if you like them)? Another thing against them is that most of their alternatives have been given for free at some point so the only time you can even consider using them over another character is if you’re a newer player. So you just end up wondering why they even exist. If hoyo is gonna make these 4 stars with similar kits to existing units, they should at least make them strong, otherwise just create a unique charcter(something like gorou or Sara) so that at least people have a reason to use them

@Artzyy Angel technically Sayu does have split scaling between atk for heals and dmg and EM for also heals and swirls, and she does need ER to heal properly. But that's not that big of a problem, since she's anemo and VV exists.

Funnily enough shinobu has weirdly high basic attack multipliers so if you build her for that you could get some surprisingly decent results

I'd probably just build a physical or cryo kuki if I get her cuz it's funni. Her normal attacks have really nice animations and the multipliers are surprisingly high, fortunately her design is based around her skill :/

I think hoyo is very afraid on power creep. They don’t want another xinqiu, xiangling and benett situation where 4* are meta. The 4* of inazuma are either really niche (Sara and Gorou) or really weak (sayu and thoma). I think kuki belongs in latter. I really don’t get why her burst is a damage aoe and not a buffer or better yet a wide scale heal. I originally want her for my Ayato taser comp as a healer but her burst turns me off that it’s better for me to use sayu as my main healer.

if you ever god mode kuki, trying her in reaction based comps like overloaded or electro charged is a good idea. You can even try physical, cryo and pyro because her NA and CA scaling are decent

Overloaded is definitely the one she shines the most IMO, might be even more fun in a Sunfire Overload comp, but the real issue is the lack of multiplicative reactions for electro, if she were Hydro or Pyro like Moga said, she'd have a much higher damage ceiling, and that speaks more about Electro than it does about her.

@@Pyoron Disagree, multiplicatives are overrated. in the case of Kuki we saw her do like 2k damage with her skill. If you multiply that for either 1.5 or 2.0... it would still be a very small number. And to make her scale harder you need to invest a lot into attack/HP, crit, EM. Transformatives just need EM and level, so you can realistically do many transformatives during rotations, dealing more damage. If she was Hydro or Pyro, she would be a worse character. I think it is time to realize Electro is NOT a weak element.

That last part about her being a different element got me thinking. Theory: Kuki Shinobu was originally designed to be a dendro character. Her whole kit feels themed around vines. Her Skill saps HP but lashes out every second to do damage, heal the active member & apply dendro. Her burst does dendro damage in an aoe as vines come from the ground to lash enemies and apply a constant application of dendro. I dunno, that seems more right to me than electro.

yeah, I guess I kinda makes sense cuz 1.0 we didn't have a lot of five star dps characters and lots of player didn't have 5 stars, so it made sense to give 4 stars dps potential. but now we have way more 5 stars. it would be counterintuitive for a 4 star to be on the same lvl as a 5 star so I think a lot of 4 stars get put into pure support roles. I don't really mind, the only character I think they messed up on is thoma cuz you could just run tankfei or elegy amber. I do wish we could get a four star like rosaria, mostly a support, but could totally be a dps especially for early game

Her E is great for a four star healer, having 100% uptime (with c2) and the consistent electro application. However, her burst feels incomplete like it should be something else that just the damage. If they want her burst for the damage aspect, they could add something like “if an enemy died inside the field, its time would increase by 0.75 seconds up to a maximum of 3 extra seconds” it could almost double the duration 3.5->6.5s, and probably sounds op, but the damage is already low, and having 4 enemies died inside the burst is not always going to happen. Psdt. Sorry for my bad English.

You see, this is the problem with dual scaling characters. Her kit could have just scale everything with either EM or HP and she would've been easier to build.

@@fareezsulaiman1632 that is because the main dmg source of albedo is his elemental skill which is base on DEF, sure his burst (which is base on ATK) is also good but its not important than his E-Skill thats why its fine and it is more beneficial if you just build albedo pure DEF build.

One of the coolest looking character with strange kit that looks like designed by three people that couldn't communicate with each other. Kit is all over the place, same with scalling. Not a good healer, not a good damage dealer. I dont know what happened during designing. By she looks amazing.

kuki is that one person in a gang, which is supposed to be support (chief advisor) but secretly a decent dps (somehow a leader in disguise)

Imo what makes her good is that she brings some much needed role compression to the table. For example, if you wanted to go 2 electro + 2 hydro you wouldn't have a healer unless you wanted to sacrifice some damage to go for kokomi or barbara as the healer. Now with kuki shinobu you can go 1 electro of your choice + kuki and two other damage focused hydro characters (like yelan and xingqiu). The same thing applies to a eula team where you had to have one healer and another electro unit to superconduct. Now you can have one unit for those two roles, freeing up one slot for whatever else you might need or want.

I'm having fun with Kuki, Yelan and Xingqiu on a team. Because Kuki's electro application is persistant and fairly fast, she works well with them, and having her keep the team healed at the same time is comfy. They're not going to set clear time records, but it's a perfectly functional team.

It's also important to remember that dendro is coming soon and eletro-dendro reactions might make her alot stronger(especially since she has EM scaling)

Moga, you should know that she heals OTHER PLAYERS when they go inside her skill's AoE! It's not major, but it's pretty cool! You can just stand around people with your skill up and they will be healed!

Just do Bennett's burst or Barbara's skill and switch over to dps and your character will heal even if you're Just standing there doing nothing. Who told you that you need to hit enemies to heal???😭 That's the stupidest thing I've heard 😭😭 I been using bennet for months and this is the first time I'm hearing this. Also xingui heals pretty good just takes some time. His 4 rainswords heal u after 15 seconds and even decrease the damage received based on how many swords are in possession atm

I’ve seen a few builds where Kuki can do some pretty good damage, you just need to have a full EM build to really see those kind of numbers. But her play style does seem kind of niche in that regard so it’s up to anyone to test it out and see if that works better. Though in this case I guess this makes her a bit more like Sucrose.

The thing that I feel of about is Kuki it seems she was made for dendro reaction ( based on leaks) but was released very early that is kinda a sad She basically is Kokomi all over again ( In first response) Edit: I mean as support and not dps

Looking at Kuki's Kit, I recommend building full EM on her. With the release of Dendro, the Electro + Dendro reaction will likely deal decent DMG scaling on EM. So Kuki who has full EM can both deal DMG and heal you, which makes her a viable unit :).

the reason why feels weird is because she is made for supporting dendro characters we've already had leaks suggesting dendro reactions (electro+dendro) scale off EM and her kit is giving bonus based on her EM. Itll all fall into place with sumeru release.

I think the scalings might be weird to players but fit her descriptions very well since she is a multi-talented person who can't even fit all of her talents in the qualification paper.

@@messysoda2220 I’m not saying she’s not fun to use or to not use her, just found that OP’s comment about her kit a bit ironic. My comment was more of a critique at mhy/hyv than the character itself. I like Shinobu as a character, but I won’t deny that her kit needs work

She kind of reminds me of Xinyan in terms of her kit, it's very niche, have multiple fields of usage but is only mediocre in all of the fields. She's an okay healer, an okay electro applicator and I guess decent burst dps but she can't be good at all three at once, only okay at one (the problem is that there are characters who are great in one of the specific fields). Xinyan is similar in the sense that she can be a decent physical burst dps, an okay shielder or a pyro dps. But she can't be everything at once and there are characters who are solid or even better in one of the specific fields. It's a shame, but it is what it is. I still play with Xinyan even though I have way better units, just cause I think she's fun :)

Basically Jack of all trades master of none. It's kinda annoying how Genshin is starting to release these sort of characters, you either have a Kuki or a very niche/specific character that only works in one way.

As a new player (been playing for less than 2 months) i'm extremely happy with her. I only had razor and lisa as electro and i don't like razor so i had 2 lvl 20 electros. Now that kuki is electro and she can heal i don't have the need for barbara everywhere. She fits nicely on my team of ayaka, ningguang and rosaria.

kayea burst, kuki skill, 4 piece pale flame and prototype craftable sword. she can do good physical damage with the superconduct decreasing enemies defense.

It's good that new players have more options to chose from for characters. I played in the very beginning and there was only Barbara, Xingqui, Jean, Qiqi, and Bennett. Jean and Qiqi were 5* so only whales or exceptionally lucky people had them... Nobody liked Xingqui cause of his haircut. And the community was largely under the impression Bennett was garbage...So, Barbara was almost everyone's main healer. Oh how the turns have tabled since then. XD

Her only problem is her burst, not special at all

I think Shinobu is made for specific niche teams (or Dendro in the future *cough*) Right now, some people might say she sucks, her Electro application follows standard ICD, her healing is average and her scalings are very low, but maybe, just maybe, someday we'll find a perfect team for her

Pretty funny to see how Dendro increased her strength and usage overall. Before Dendro, she was REEEALLY niche, but I rolled for her because I like to have all 4*, and I found her really cute. She was used rarely, but could work with a Shogun team, a Tazer team and stuff like that. Nowadays she's really good for the healing within a Dendro reaction team, and if you build EM on her, she can do some numbers as well as heal a good amount. She's far from being the best healer, but she's a good one, that nowadays makes sense to have rather than before Dendro was introduced XD

Now I'm looking back with dendro, I'll love to see a new showcase of her dendro ability. It makes sense to me why she scales off EM partly, could be she was prepared for dendro?

I think Barbara with TTDS has more value than her single target healing 😑. And the fact that she drains her own hp mean she's on life support all the time.

From what I’ve noticed, split scaling characters rarely ever go well. Characters like Zhongli, Hu Tao, Yelan, Kokomi, Diona, and Barbara solely scale off of HP and characters like Kazuha and Shogun scale solely off of EM and ER respectively, this makes them really easy to build and allows you to use all their potential. Characters like Xinyan or Yae Miko have random scaling stats splashed in their kit which really don’t do anything and make them confusing to build. Generally, it just makes them feel incomplete or like you’re never getting the best out of them, which makes a character feel inadequate when there are others out there who may fit their role better.

xingqiu scales slightly off of hp (rainswords heal based on his hp) and ayato scales slightly off of hp too...tbh i wish ayato had something else as i think it would've improved him, but he's still okay. but yeah definitely agree. unless the em scaling for yae and kuki is bc of the dendro/electro reaction? that might be why, maybe it'll be a meta shifter. i really hope so tbh ...there was definitely no reason for xinyan's split scaling though. poor girl

As a day 1 triple crowner of her, I would like to suggest a few things. 1, Go full EM and try her being an overloader. With C6 Benny or a pyro applier, and with 4pc CW, she deals great damage with overloaded. Maybe you could try her with Klee, since she has insane pyro application. 2, try her as a physical carry. She deals SURPRISING amounts of damage, and with a proper team, she can easely beat any challange in the game. 3, try her as a healer in Raiden hypercarry. Going with hp/electro/crit, after Raiden's burst ends, Sara + her burst deals great damage. Other than these, I agree with what you said. She is kind of underwhelming, but the game itself is so easy that you can beat it with anyone, so I'll proudly say that I 9 starred Abyss 12 with her as a main dps.

I don't mind her existing, as you said in the title. We already have a lot really specialised characters, like: Gorou and Kujou Sara.

I was just so disappointed with her, it was even hard to make her come home

i'm waiting for dendro to come out. i think kuki was released a little bit early so that is what confused people. i'm sure it will be her (and lisa's) time to shine in 3.0

She can be a decent support with favonius sword and tenacity set so she can give you energy particles and atk buff as well as healing the team And obviously electro application which can be good for an electro-charge teams

I feel she might be better when dendro comes out but it all depends on the type of character they make first

Kuki heals and enables Superconduct. Works fine with Eula especially if you don’t have Raiden. That way you don’t need Diona for healing and can slot in Rosaria for dmg. So you have Eula-Kuki-Rosaria and 1 flex spot where you could put in Zhongli or Bennett.

I'm playing her as a physical DPS, and it works pretty well. Obviously not Eula-level, but with the right supports (like Yun Jin and Rosaria) Shinobu can do some good damage (it was enough for me to 3-star the first chamber of Abyss 12, currently working on the second chamber). Pale Flame is actually a really good artifact set on her, since she can easily get 100% uptime on the 4pc effect.

Just like yunjin and xinyan,i really don't think she is necessary by both lore and meta its like she was released just for us to get more excited for Sumeru (even though i love them all)

as a thoma main I really hate “bad” characters because I literally do everything like EVERYTHING to make a character work so I don’t think characters like her should exist since it just gives false hope but if you only like characters for looks then you do you

okay but in my opinion (you're free to disagree), EM will probably be the main goal when Dendro is released, and using clam set to boost her healing is kinda unnecessary (I assume its mostly there for the extra damage). 4pc Tennacity + Full EM is where it's at imo.

@@Devilboy_1029 It probably has, but I'm basing my assumption more off of how both the most recent electro characters have EM scaling. If the dendro-electro reaction doesn't scale well enough with EM to make EM worth it on electro characters, then there would be no point to Yae and Shinobu having EM scaling. Like, sure we all talk about how "Mihoyo doesn't know what they're doing" sometimes, but it just wouldn't make sense to give them EM scaling if they weren't preparing for dendro, so I think that must be what's happening. Only time will tell though and I could absolutely be wrong on the "EM will be best for Shinobu" thing. I still think 4pc Tennacity is her best artifact set though.

I was telling my friends pre-release Kuki as a character feels like one they was concept/role in the story before her kit and play style was thought. It feels like too many people were questions the gang and how they stayed out of trouble, so Kuki was built to fill a role in a story. And I don’t say this as fact, or even that she’s bad in the sense of story/personality but in the fact that most of her kit and build feels overly complex and strangely put together. Now that she is released I was able to do her trial (since I didn’t bother building her at all yet) and while the flaws I thought she had are far less bad than I was expecting I still don’t see her as anything outstanding which sucks. I don’t dislike her character, and while I can see some uses for her I end up thinking about how so many other characters better fill the slots she takes up and as more characters are released Kuki feels like one who won’t stand the test of time like a few other units. I truly hope people who love and want to use her really like her, I don’t want it to be some sort of cynical outlook for her and I want people to be happy if they love her- but Kuki feels like a half made character used to fill aspect of storytelling before completely finishing or creating a solid play design. Also I know some people were saying it’d be nice if they made an artifact set that would benefit her but honest, at some point if you need an artifact set solely based on one character to make them better I find that to be another issue on its own and doesn’t solve the problems with a character.

if you want to try her as a carry, her charged attack is actually pretty good if you build her physical with pale flame, also an interesting build for her is overload carry with full em and xianling+benny

i actually been waiting for her for such a long time as soon as she was revealed. i absolutely love her kit, im using her with triple hp totm with iron sting. it was worth the wait

In dendro reaction if electro triggers reaction then dendro gains attack bonus. if its true then she might become handy.

her healing and electro application fit the support role I wanted for eula perfectly! up until her I had been using lisa and sometimes died in abyss but this more constant electro and massive healing helped a ton ^^

Kuki has really strong EM builds, mine hits semi-fast 20,000 overload in my Hu Tao party so I use her often, she really shines specifically in hyperbloom comps with consistent 30,000s

if only the clam set could have multiple bubbles instead of just one, itd be so cool to use her in a team alongside kokomi and qiqi for big bubble bursts. imagine the three underrated healers being powerful and spamming 90 k bubbles every 5 seconds

Try a full em build! I’ve been trying a team with Kuki and Xiangling for overloaded, Bennett for buffing Xiangling burst (can be changed for a hydro maybe, haven’t tried yet) and Sayu for swirl and chasing enemies pushed away by overloaded, but venti would be better I think to just group them

she seems like a good budget option as a sub for Raiden in superconduct teams, where all you really want is consistent electro on the field and a little healing for the road.

From the future: Kuki is BROKEN with dendro

I feel like they should have either committed to healer or dps. She could have had a decent if low impact niche of a healer with high electro application, which she can still technically do, but it still feels unfocused. Or go the route of making her a decent electro dps character, kinda like what Yanfei is as a pyro dps. Or, if they wanted to make her actually strong they could have made her both but give her full hp scaling and buff the multipliers, as well as adding healing to her burst. I feel like if her damage was just higher she would be way better, but she just has such low scaling and not enough hits to justify it. I feel like it’s a problem if your highest hits from your burst are still lower damage than other 4 stars basic attacks. I guess she joins the roster of pretty bad Inazuma 4 stars.

We already so many off field electro applicators that she's basically useless, you have so many different healers you can slot in for taser or physical teams (barbara, kokomi, qiqi, bennett, etc) that you'll never need her, her healing might tick fast but it heals very little (my bennett heals more on a dps build). Such a missed opportunity, an electro healer could have been really cool, but we really don't need another off field electro applicators (we have beidou, Fischl, raiden, yae, and electro traveler, and they all apply more than her I'm pretty sure). If she was cryo or smth it would have been cool, we don't have any consistent off-field cryo applicators yet.

I definitely remember thinking I needed an electro healer. I can think of 1 other team that would benefit from her besides the electro charge ones: cryo physical carries. With en electro healer that is also an off field electro applier, the superconduct, healing, carry and buff with tenacity roles are checked, leaving 2 slots for more buffs or off field damage. A team I am planning on using is Eula, Shinobu, Rosaria (C6), and Xinyan (C6), with 2 physical buffers, a battery, nobless, off field DMG, a shield buffed by tenacity, and Xinyan burst benefiting as much as Eula from the buffs. There are definitely more teams, like a Rosaria or kaeya physical carry hyper buffed, maybe with yunjin.

You should watch sevy plays Kuki shinobu overview, it has some pretty creative insights on ways to use kuki shinobu

I like her design and personality so much! I've seen a lot of people dislikes her. However, I think she'll get her spotlight once dendro element drop because I heard that dendro and electro works well together. Her healing capability + constant electro application would make her better. She's partly scales with em after all so I'm sure mhy intended her to be good with dendro reaction

There's already dendro enemies in the game and there's no reaction between electro and dendro. I don't think it's going to do anything.

used her with klee and yelan, and even though her artifacts are still bad everything on field just MELTED. As a healer that leaves a reaction on-field that has the advantage of moving with your character, you can now make a turret team that kills things without the need for a dedicated dps.

I get the feeling that Kuki is in preparation for another character or region, like Kokomi and Rifthounds.

I'm sure this has probably been said a million times but she is a pretty good support for Eula, being able to provide superconduct and healing if necessary. Maybe for godmode you try out a Eula comp? Just a thought :)

Add more to the spinning stuff on Sayu. I think her burst is best with vacuum characters. Sucrose I did attempt, once her burst lifts up the enemies, I cast Kuki's burst in an attempt to juggle. Well, it does reach higher opponents. The only thing I curse now, even with the adjustments, the Specters (floaty orbs). Gosh its hard to hunt those, Sometimes they float out to the Ocean. Stay on the beach.

I’m so sad cause shinobu is actually so cool. The concept of her burst and skill, the animation, ESPECIALLY the animation. Her character, the design. It’s all so good. Then they went ahead and lit all of it on fire 😭

so i ended up building her as a sorta tanky dps. i did the pale flame set and did cr/cd substats with as much hp substats as possible. Shes currently at 70 and i gave her a lvl 90 r5 black sword and at level 6 tallent her basics hit around 6k. her e still heals 1500-2000(talent level 4) and black sword heals 1400. I think shes meant to be hybrid. i think mine ended up with 25k hp total or so. i need to grind more elegence books before i show her off. but as a physical character she seems to shine.

i’m planning on making a full electro team and having her as the healer and as passive damage. probably gonna do 2 tenacity 2 thundering fury or maybe tenacity and wanderer idk yet

I’m so sad, hoyoverse gave her the coolest design but I find that she’s hard to play. I really have no reason to build her when instead I could use Fischl or beidou. I’m still going to try to build her though, but instead of her traditional build I’m going to build her as a main dps. Maybe someday she’ll receive a buff.

I was thinking more of a replacement for Raiden in the Eula comp for Kuki, she provides a consistent electro for superconduct and good healing. Freeing up a slot for a fourth character, Kuki with freedom sworn, would give also give atk speed if I remember the passive well. So the team would be; Eula, Rosaria (Crit transfer, phy shred, and battery), Kuki (healing and electro applicator.), and [fourth slot open]. I was thinking maybe Mona, but idk.

Seems like they’ve been releasing a lot of more niche characters lately, I guess they saw all the complaints of certain characters being “too good” like Benny and such maybe

@@CuriousHxrhey idk I don’t really care personally, but a bunch of Genshin players have complained for a while that like Benny is too good and everyone uses him in every team, and this is a bad thing apparently? People were like “it’s so boring that you can slap one character into your team and he fulfils like 4 different roles” so now new characters are gonna be more niche and only fit one or two roles

@@jonnysetzler5859 Soon we will have the same people complaining that all the new units are niche and should be more adaptable to different teams, can't satisfy some people. Honestly though the game hasn't got much harder so not much point in having units that can't even show their potential.

@@CuriousHxrhey cuz it limits their abilities to create characters, why would you use Sara when you have Bennett, why use Yelan instead of Xingqui, why pull for Hu Tao when you have Xiangling, Kazuha is just a 5 star Sucrose, Kokomi is another Barbara,..... The main point is why would you need someone else when you already had a unit that can do everything. And to answer the question why recent 4 stars suck, it's because mihoyo are trying to avoid creating broken unit, not because someone complains about Bennett being "too strong"
