Genshin Impact Has Completely Abandoned Physical Damage Characters | Genshin Impact

Ойындар

Physical Damage characters were a subgroup of units in the game with a niche revolving around ignoring all elemental damage in favor of old fashioned physical damage. Over a year and a half passed since our last dedicated physical unit: Eula. Since then, the archetype has been completely neglected, and today I want to go over what happened to them.

The problem is geo and anemo. Geo and anemo dps characters don't use reactions either, so physical doesn't actually get anything unique.

mhmmm and tbh its more shafted since there is a whole series of enemies that give a middle finger to physical...ruin bosses which have mobs and elite enmies and even bosses, and thats not going anywhere by current standards since they are vast and spread through tevyat. So physical is just suffering as the third brother of geo and anemo dps. I think, they should release a gorou type character for physical, release a set like deepwood for physical, rework superconduct to break defense with even requirements of just physical damage but thats not need. Becauseeee, no team has electro and cryo naturally....no team just casually has a cryo and electro team to abuse the def reduction. Cause cryo is either melt team, which electro would interfere or freeze which it also interferes. And electro has electro charged which would be interrupted by cryo, although cryo and electro can coexist in dendro teams. But dendro teams already have their packed teams, no place for any random cryo unit just for the sake of def reduction. But yes......these things are needed for physical to be on par.

What’s incredibly ironic is that I’ve heard of instances when people actively chose to use C6 Benny with Xinyan and Razor to turn them into monopyro and hypergeon characters respectively. Eula is the only dedicated physical carry that doesn’t have an alternative playstyle centered around elemental weapon infusions.

Well Xinyan and Razor get most of their physical output from normal attacks. There is no way to infuse a burst so something like cryo Eula just isn't worthwhile. As a side note, c6 Bennett with Full EM Razor, dendro and Xingqui is unironically much better than his physical build. The down side is you have to play in Bennett's burst so it lacks mobility.

Tbh I think a good way to make Physical interesting is to make Shatter be based on the physical damage used to break it rather than just a minor amount of Physical damage scaling. Maybe it won't instantly shatter but instead stack phys damage dealt and when it breaks you gets a burst of damage. More duration you have on freeze means more phys attacks you can stack. Then a fire element could also force trigger an instant shatter.

  • @0-0-255repertorium

    @0-0-255repertorium

    Жыл бұрын

Okay so i also have quite an idea... Elemental mastery of the character that causes frozen reaction will increase the durability of the freeze aura(against blunt attacks before shattering*), and will also increase the duration of the freeze by quite a small yet noticable amount at higher EM values. Shatter will also scale off of the one who froze the target with their EM, probably add quite like a 5% or 10% something damage increase to the instance of damage that causes the shatter effect. Short explanation: You freeze, more EM=better shatter effect. Physical nukes deal more damage on shatter, and even more the more EM the character that froze the target has.

I think Mihoyo will come back to physical characters eventually. They have been pushing elemental reactions for six months now, so that players would stop focusing on crit only and fully enjoy the new dendro element. When the hype has passed, they will certainly find some sort of novelty in physical characters. For example, their could be a physical Gorou that would boost physical damage for every character in the team. Or a character whose physical damage is increased based on its max hp when they burst.

I think a revisit on shatter (like we had with swirl) could revive the viability of phys carries, playing with frozen, since they usually already have a cryo on the team. Also, by revesiting shatter I meant not only changing the scale on EM but maybe add a bit of scale with phys dmg, so that units like razor(phys dmg ascension) can have a better chance. Bruh how did this turned into "Rosaria is a phys dps or not?" Also Yesn't. I play her as phys and i would love to say that she's good at it but she's not. Like razor is a claymore user but can almost hit as fast as here with ult dealing almost triple the dmg per attack. I have a lot o fun though, play whatever u want albedo vape with bennet c6 idc bro don't argue about this It won't give u nothing except clout and there are healthier ways of getting that. I don't think players are necessarily more interested in the elements. Usually, one of the first things you see whenever a cryo or electro (non-catalyst) character is released is people trying to turn them into physical DPS characters. There's definitely an interest in physical DPS. The problem is that, much like how Kazuha can't turn any ol' elemental character into a true DPS, superconduct + Yun Jin does not stack up to a kit that is actually well-designed to do physical damage + superconduct.

It is indeed doubtful that the will make a new reaction but it would be fun to have something gimicky with dendro and cryo. If they made one now they would either be a 5* (like Shenhe) or a 4* that barely functions without c6 (Faruzan). Hoyoverse is pretty much made it clear that they aren't making good c0 4*s anymore. Also, Superconduct is already enough res shred. Physical damage bonus buffs will also quickly hit diminishing returns. It is pretty easy to get over 100% physical damage bonus already with the artifacts/weapons in the game. I think the most pressing issue with physical is that it forces you into a hypercarry playstyle where your other units deal minimal to no damage, so adding a physical sub dps/off field damage dealer would the best part. There's at max 2 units in your party that can actually use the sheer amount of physical resistance shred that you have. One of them is Xinyan as a burst dps and your on field damage dealer. But Xinyan...is Xinyan. So you never use her, so you're stuck using one character to deal all your physical damage, thus losing in damage against teams that can actually use off field damage dealers effectively such as double hydro. This is mainly shown in the fact that Itto's damage alone is not enough to make him even near as good as the other units, but when paired with Albedo he rises to prominence as a competitive team. Albedo can use all of Itto's buffs for himself and deal a ton of off field damage In the case of physical, it'd be greatly appreciated if this unit was electro so that they could support Eula. Currently speaking, the electro slot is the weakest of them all. This is mainly because electro units have no supporting capabilities unlike cryo ones (like Shenhe and Rosaria shredding physical resistance). The only reason Raiden and Fischl are used is because they're strong enough (and our cryo options weak enough) to where putting a useless electro unit that doesn't increase your damage but actually reduce it (Kuki and/or Dori being examples of this). Basically, physical doesn't need a Gorou. We need an Albedo.

This is what I’ve been saying for awhile. What’s the point of including physical damage as an option if it’s going to be so useless. It’s also so counterintuitive to lock superconduct behind two elements. They should’ve made Geo the physical support/dps element like how anemo is for elemental. Change crystallize to work like superconduct and make the old superconduct reaction either something different or just remove it outright because it’s so goddamn useless and creates anti-synergy.

I feel like they were and still are planning to do more physical units, but with Dendro in the picture, they needed to focus their efforts in the elemental system. If we got more physical units during Inazuma, there would be less elemental units to react and hype up dendros release that was fast approaching, and for the next year, releasing Dendro units and other ones that can react/drive the new reactions will be the focus. Even Wanderer, that can't exactly react with dendro and was made in a more anemo-focused enviroerment, is a nice driver for some Hyperbloom teams. I believe physical damage will come back around at some point. Just like for the endgame content, hoyoverse is in it for the long run. They are stretching content to the bare minimum each patch, they’ll milk us slowly, over years, not weeks. Dendro has the spotlight now, but what will happen if they were to add a new physical damage support or main damage dealer tomorrow? What if mika is going to be the new bennet for physical damage dealers? We’d all jump on the bandwagon and start playing a new archetype. Look at the tcg, I think it’s rather strange for a game with such an amazing and enticing combat system to ditch combat completely just to implement a sub par tcg mini game, and yet every content creator and their mothers are playing the tcg right now. They don’t need to keep things balanced, or to give every unit and archetype the same amount of attention each patch, they’ll give us content drop after drop, like a malfunctioning sink, unless we all start to stop spending money and logging in every day, and we all know that’s not going to happen. We have to be patient, play the long game they are setting the pace for.

People playing Genshin only for combat are really handicapping themselves with the game's content, this is an open world game and in open world games, combat is just a tiny portion of what the genre offers. Look at GTA, the most successful and popular content of GTA5 is RP followed by story, streamers get 100k views not for combat, but playing their characters doing every day life activities like opening shops, hanging out at parties, going hiking etc. There are so many types of content in Genshin and combat is not even the sweatiest type of content, it's housing. There are people out there who take months to plan design, craft and then take a ton of effort to glitch and position pieces to combine objects and achieve incredible structures. Housing is always the true endgame in games that feature it, such as Final Fantasy 14, where trying to get a house is said to be about as hard as IRL and FF14's housing is not even as big in scale as Genshin's. Genshin's most robust content is actually lore though and lore exploration is the biggest rabbit hole in the entire game, it is the one content that gets exponentially bigger with every patch and bridges across hoyoverse's other games to form an even bigger lorescape.

@@GuyWithAnAmazingHat I won’t say I disagree with you, because I too believe genshin is a huge game and there’s so much more to enjoy than just combat. I am a huge fan of genshin’s Lore, Music, Exploration, Puzzles. I enjoy my teapot and I take part in all of the mini game events; to this day, the wind trace event is one of my favorite pieces of content hoyoverse has ever put out. But this doesn’t mean that combat isn’t the main focus or the most enticing part of genshin’s ample selection of contents, and the part they pushed on players since day one. Regardless of how much you consider combat or enjoy it, one should be able to see this. While I agree that teapot farming is way sweatier than any form of combat, it’s not what they push forward each patch with every character, and it’s not the thing players spend their premium currency on; there are no characters focused on improving the teapot, and while some characters like yoimiya might have a talent related to it, it’s more like a little extra on the side than a reason to pull for a character. When they present the upcoming patch in their streams, they’ll show you the combat skills of the new characters in great detail, while the lore is barely touched upon. I have never pulled for constellations or weapons but I do know many players that do, and if combat wasn’t the enticing, under the spotlight, superstar of genshin’s table of contents, I doubt their banners would sell as much as they do. Players don’t pull for c2 Raiden or c1 hu Tao because of the lore, or because those constellations and weapons are helpful to solve puzzles or farm for the teapot, they pull because they want to utilise a character to its max potential in combat. Unfortunately, there’s no way of spending primogem to improve your teapot or your fishing rod, and I do believe that should be more than enough to prove my point; I am at risk of repeating myself but I don’t condemn hoyoverse for diversifying their content or the players that enjoy the game in different ways, but this doesn’t mean we should simply justify the poor amount of combat content by saying that an open world game is much more than that: yes it’s true, but also it’s not. I do want to give credit where credit is due, and I love a lot of things from genshin, but from a game design perspective the card game is a nice mini game, while the combat is clearly much more refined and without a doubt the reason at least a huge part of their player base got into genshin in the first place, and not acknowledging that is in my opinion extremely unhealthy both for the game and the company behind it, as well as for the player base.

Nowadays I don't pull characters for meta anymore, I pull them because I want to play them during their story segments. I always try to get characters I like during the Archon quest so I can have a canon party for full immersion.

After the Wanderer's release, I think it is possible there can be more physical type characters because it seems they are trying for only-one-element teams as a theme. (First the mono-geo, now mono-anemo) If MiHoYo continues with this "mono-X" theme, mono physical could occur. It could happen with characters that have no visions but have replicas of the Ruin Guard technology, or conventional characters with a vision but their elemental attacks are basically just graphics overlaying a physical buff like Xinyan's abilities. The major challenge would be to make mono-physical a fun alternative to mono-element, because if they just buff the numbers, it won't do anything that mono-geo or the current mono-anemo can't.

  • @lemeres2478

One thing they could do to encourage physical teams is to introduce EXPLOSIONS. This is something we see in certain events. They give you something like a card system, and one of the options is "cause an explosion when you do X reaction". I noticed that those explosions tend to be extremely useful- they can effectively break things like abyss mage shields or damage geo armor. While this might not add very much to direct numbers, it does provide appreciable utility that might limit team without the correct element- which might happen often if you are running a super conduct set up. And it might be something that can attract players who get frustrated when running up against stalling walls, thereby creating a 'path of least resistance'. So they could just add a character with a raiden style team buff. "cause explosions when normal attacks deal physical damage". Minor, but it is the type of thing you might look for on a monophysical team.

it's true that phisical damage seems, at the current time, abandoned but I think it eventually will be revaluated. Genshin combat is, for the most part, based on elemental reaction but phisical damage has the advantage to be always consistent, at least partially. You tipically assemble your party based on what kind of enemy that you expect: a phisical damage dealer is almost always useful because almost every enemy is suscetible to phisical damage. And even in the worst case scenario, you still can do significant damage by reducing the enemy resistance. So a good phisical damage dealer is especially good in your exploration team, when you have no idea what enemy you are going to encounter.

I think the element buffer niche characters show that it's not hard to "fix" Physical dps. Just add a character that only buffs physical damage. Just purely increase Physical Damage and Shred like Faruzan does for Anemo while also providing one half of the elemental equation required for superconduct (preferably electro for Eula's sake). Sure, that _could_ make normals more viable for a wide variety of other characters. I'm 100% sure physical will receive some attention sooner or later, probably in the form of a 5 star support that further reduces resistance to physical. I'm sure they'll eventually release another 5 star support for geo that revolves around crystallize reactions and acts as a suitable replacement for Zhongli in a mono geo team. Genshin is going to be around for a while... the content release schedule just prioritizes certain gameplay designs over others in an attempt to keep the overall power level across playstyles relatively homogeneous. I personally think geo, anemo and physical should have the greatest access to vertical scaling considering how niche their damage is. As they exist currently, they're great... but they should design 5 star supports for each that take each up to the next level.

However in most cases even if I don't have as much single hit damage (which is unlikely thanks to Eula) I can bring a lot of reliable consistent damage through both Noelle and Eula, there's been plenty of cases where my friends have missed their childe ult or they've misplaced their sucrose ult and then I clean up with a few N2D's back to back. Super conduct isn't the only multiplier to think about either, Eula for example shreds resistance, and there is potential for get +50% from doubling up on two piece set bonuses, and a very common enemy type weak to physical, humans. I've been using Eula in an otherwise hyperbloom team, and while I do get the occasional shatter going, off, the non reaction between cryo and dendro lets me slot it in for a superconduct in the middle of an otherwise full spread of reactions.

I have always felt that Physical was just a much worse version of Geo. Geo is my favorite element because it acts inert to the other elements for the most part. With the release of Dendro this has become a big strength for Geo since its lack of reactions means it doesn't interfere with your Dendro core reactions. But like you said its still an element and it still has unique properties to it. All of the Geo characters save for maybe Ningguang care about being Geo characters, but the same can't be said for the phys units. Xinyan would be way better as just a pyro unit as would Razor with Electro. I've always had the suspicion that Eula is aloud to do the damage that she does BECAUSE shes a Physical unit. If she had an element and had access to meaningful damage based reactions then her numbers would have to be toned down to compensate. But since she is physical she can do the damage that she does because shes completely self contained.

Add to what the person above has already posted, Geo and now Anemo now get their own buffer as well in Gorou and Faruzan (despite her energy issue below C6). Plus if you run mono Geo, with Gorou Albedo and Itto, you'd have a solid support, DPS, and sub DPS. In physical team (I'm only talking about Eula here as Xinyan's kit is just a mess), Eula is the only damage dealer, unless you're running her with Raiden Shogun. The problem is Shogun is probably the most busted unit in the game alongside Kazuha and Nahida that she's better on other team. If you're not running Raiden with Eula, Eula's team is literally just a Cryo battery (Diona and/or Rosaria) plus Electro units for more energy and to debuff the enemy by triggering Superconduct. The problem is so many enemies are highly resistant to Physical damage that even though Eula has a built in Physical shred in her kit and Superconduct also helps, it's still not a buff for her, it's debuffing the enemies. It's unlike many other team, especially one with VV holder where you get attack buff and debuffing enemies by triggering the 4pc VV effect. Add to that those team also has sub DPSes that actively deals damage alongside the on field character. Eula's team is just Eula.

as a razor main from week one of the game, I feel like elements do in fact augment his play in meaningful ways because of how electro, hydro, and cryo interact and stack on enemy units. razor essentially is able to create teams that constantly freeze, superconduct and shatter (another physical damage type) enemy units in a really rapid fire fashion. that also keeps them grouped up due to the cc from freeze. I think attack speed is the key for physical units down the line since we also have normal attack buffers in the game already
