I adore Sotomayor, but you have to take emotion out of it. Mehdi's got a point. If Biden loses, Republicans will get Thomas and Alito to step down and will replace them with very young justices, so that's TWO MORE seats 45 will have replaced on the SCOTUS. And he will pick someone young, so they'll impact policy for the next 20-30 years. If anything happens to Sotomayor - who travels with a doctor - that would be a 3rd justice 45 would added to the court in his term. You can't dismiss Mehdi's opinion here.

Justice Sotomayor has Type 1 diabetes. She can't take Ozempic to get rid of it, or any other medication. It requires insulin. It's so important to make that distinction between Type 1 and Type 1 diabetes, especially when Type 1 diabetics are most impacted by the insulin prices that have been so historically and diabolically high. I hope the panel can better inform themselves next time.

Whoopi is right. The justice is just 69. Even if trump is president, she will be 74 which is still young. Unless she is so sick that she is dying (which could also happen to a 30 year old), her resigning is ridiculous. Alos, Whoopie also made the point that having a different liberal take the seat does not mean that liberal decisions will be taken. we have seen conservative justices sometimes switch the view once they get on the seat - which by the way is one of the reason why it is a lifelong appointment.

I am familiar with Mehdi Hassan and believe me, he thinks Clarence Thomas shouldn't be a part of the Supreme Court either. For us as viewers, it wasn't until Alyssa or Sunny shared their opinions, that viewers were explained the actual context from the CNN interview from one of the ladies at the table. Sotomayor is 18 years younger and has a disease that is manageable with the right care. She could live to be 90. Isn't it interesting that we know NOTHING about the health issues of any of the men on the court, except of the Chief Justice who fainted a couple of times, but we never got a real diagnosis. All the most recent Republican appointed justices are under age 60 which means they will probably be there for 20 years. Not retiring at a politically advantageous time gives the opposition the opportunity to appoint another young justice that will be there for 20-30 years. Take Ruth Bader Ginsburg, for example; she could have retired when President Obama was in office, but she chose not to do so, driven by her ego. Although Sotomayer is only 69, if Trump wins or the 2028 win (if GOP) and she falls ill, her seat will go to another GOP Justice for the next 40 years.
