Rydo Blackman you make an incredibly good point sir. The only thing I would say is that I’m fairly sure you yourself was an apprentice at some point and was given an opportunity to show your skill set. I got so many things wrong as an apprentice but was extremely lucky to have an amazing boss. We need more Sparky’s coming in as there’s a huge deficit as more electricians are retiring then new apprentices are coming in, but fully respect your opinion. Stay safe buddy

As Adam is transitioning out to work with you you should get a second apprentice it would be great if it could be a young lady - more female sparks would be give a strong signal for the younger generation.

I have been telling you that for ages you won’t regret it and it will ease the burden on you and you are passing the knowledge on to the next generation. Once he becomes competent you can take on a bit more work. Be patient the young can assume things clear directions from you will help, and just put yourself in their position. Remember what you were like at that age.

Love the film noir counterposition between you and the apprentice love the safe isolation teach, lock out and tag out at CU top man...fantastic. Just teach him also about ensuring good contact on conductor points, and ghost voltages and eddys and to be able to discern when it’s actually live or not. Make sure he is also taking the time to do the reading and learning outside of the workplace.

I am not a sparks but I watch your channel from time to time enjoy it and have learned some stuff. When I was a kid (many years ago) I had a little ladybird book of electronics and in the village where I grew up in a young guy opened a TV repair shop. I went to him to scrounge old bits of wire and old torch lamps. From that encounter, he befriended me and taught me how to solder, read circuit diagrams, understand multimeters etc. We travelled all over the Leeds area fixing peoples telly's etc and this led me to a career in the Royal Navy working on Radios, Radar weapons systems and eventually computers, something I now still do after leaving the Navy 35 years ago. I am still friends with TV Geoff all these years later, I still build electronic projects and program computers or fix software and hardware. Take the young lad on if he is keen

Not exactly the topic of the video but.. How does one actually get an apprentice in general? I've tried looking it up a bit online but I can't seem to figure it out Do you just phone up an electrician and become an electrician like that? or do you have to join a college course first? Or is it standard practice to do few months of unpaid work experience and then transition into an apprentice? I'm really confused about the process to getting into the industry via apprenticeship

It's mad how they do it now.

Getting a start is the hardest part. Giving Oscar that opportunity is brilliant to see, it’s hard out there to find an employer. We were all once young and eager to start, that may go with time but he seems like a nice lad. What have you got to lose?

Well done for giving this guy a job he will be good to have for you he seems like he wants to learn and you seem like a decent bloke and a great electrician I wished I had worked in my apprenticeship with someone like you, most men you work with are horrible or I may have had bad luck lol but anyway im past those days recently qualified waiting to do my inspection and testing also be cool if u made a video on what the inspection and testing exam is about like full detail. Cheers Jordan

Did you show him the sharp end (500v dc) of the test kit? 😂 That's what apprentices are for!

I'm almost 30 and will be looking for apprenticeship soon. Do you think I'm wasting my time because of my age?

Laurie Aldam if it’s what u want then go for it mate, never too old to learn and lots of people prefer an older apprentice because they have life experience and are serious about learning Good luck

Well done Oscar! I hope Jordan gives you the opportunity to start your Apprenticeship at his Company. If he does, embrace the opportunity with both hands and stay focused and listen and learn and you will go far in your career.
