Top lad Reuben. Good to see you’ve got a couple of good mentors. When I was an apprentice I was told to get on with the job and when I ballsed up got told I was useless 😂. Good to see things have changed in learning the trade. Couple of tips. Always take pride in your work and always take care of your tools. Your tools are what make you the money 👍

Reuben, I started my Apprenticeship in the transport industry in 1973, the best advice I can offer is, ask, question and ask some more. In my carrier I trained dozens of lads, the ones that turned out best where the ones that push me for more knowledge. Good luck with your future tuition.

Well done Reuben, it takes time to get the feel of how much and how hard to cut into the armour when scoring it off, personally I don’t like those hacksaws with the vertical handle like the one you were using for scoring armoured, I prefer the old style bog standard ones that they used to have in my college, feels more manoeuvrable and easier to get round the back of the cable especially if you’ve got limited space

I know you always check the main isolation switch or breaker on the CU, but do you other checks in case of "phantom power", or backfeeding from other circuits? Years ago, I heard it was fairly common to see power joined from other CUs, or people being naughty, and stealing power from another building. Or sometimes even a generator or UPS somewhere. Just wondered if that kind of thing is still seen, or even considered nowadays?

I’m a little stunned AE isn’t requiring their apprentice to wear safety glasses or work gloves. I do think it is amazing to have 16 year old apprentices - we can’t do that in the states. However, let’s teach them the right way in the beginning, and to be safe - wear safety glasses…

Cory. Love your videos, please don’t take this as criticism but I have to pick you up on your comment about the main switch. I’m sure you just were putting it over wrong as you can’t of meant what you said. An isolator is just that, an isolator. It won’t ‘let through’ an amount of voltage or current over it’s rating when open…The 100A or whatever rating is what load can carry without burning out. If there’s 120A load on it and you turn it off it will fully isolate it…it won’t let say 20A through ….I am only making this comment as I fear it will confuse apprentices. Keep up the good work though.

  • @corynoahmac

Hey mate! No offence taken. Maybe I wasn’t clear enough ( also editing sometimes takes out context ). I was trying to explain, It is an isolator and it will not trip, it is designed to safely carry 100Amps and no more. Just like a cooker switch will safety isolate up to 45a, and no more, but will never trip. Just burn out!

  • @corynoahmac

Thanks so much for the reply Cory. I thought you didn’t mean what you said mate :-) . It just comes across as ‘if it’s rated at 100A and you open it, but carry on and put 120A through it, it will let 20A through’ watch that bit of the clip and see what I mean :-) But anyway I love your videos, you are a great electrician. You take pride in your work like I do. I do a day doing electrical work and them come home and watch others do it on You Tube lol.
