Should I Buy an All-In-One Car Seat? Graco 4 Ever Car Seat

Is a forever seat really FOREVER? Eh, not really. Manufacturers market seats to last you forever when in reality, that’s not the case. So, how long can you use your Graco 4 Ever car seat?
When you are purchasing a forever car seat, like the Graco 4Ever Car Seat, many times you are in the car seat convertible or even infant seat stages. You may not know what to look for in the best car seat for your child or expect as your child grows.
Technically a forever seat can take your from car seat for newborn to car seat forward facing to booster seat. But, just because you CAN do something doesn't mean you should.
Check out this video where I compare a forever seat in its final stages with a better alternative to keep your current or future big kid riding safely and confidently.

I would love to see a similar video discussing pros and cons of skipping an infant seat and going straight to a convertible car seat.

I have 2 Graco 4Ever Extend2Fits. One with a forward facing 7 year old and the other with a rear facing almost 4 year old. The 7 year old is close to maxing out the height for forward facing. My husband and I definitely thought the Graco 4ever Extend2Fits were a good idea for our kids at the time. My husband also has grandchildren though, ages 8, 5, 4, and under 1 with another grandchild being born this summer. So we just bought a new infant seat and a new Graco Affix Highback to Backless Booster Seat to have for the grandkids in our car when we babysit. But now we'll switch our 7 year old to the Graco Affix and use the 4Ever Extend2Fit for the grandkids. And will get 2 more Graco Affix seats since one grandchild is in Booster seats now and 2 of them are getting close to being Booster seat age. That way we have plenty of Booster seats for however many kids we will have at any given time. Your videos have been so helpful to us in our carseat safety journey!

My 5.5 year old is still in her 4Ever Extend2Fit and it’s still a good fit. She is in the upper 90 percentiles so not sure if it will actually work forever, but we bought it before knowing any better when she was an infant. One thing I notice that bothers me is after these 5.5 years the seat pad is so worn down and seems so uncomfortable with little padding left. She doesn’t complain hut just a thought!

I think this video is assuming you buy this car seat after infancy? My son is 8 and still quite comfortable in his 4ever with zero regrets. Perhaps this is also because we are a small statured family, plus my parents have their own boosters for him so we rarely take it out of the car. I am 100% thrilled I made a one time purchase that I never have to think about again because I already have too much to think about! I vacuum it out here and there and it still looks like new. I am quite sure this video is true for some, and it’s a great thought process. But what I’m saying is, if you’ve already got a 4ever it might not be an awful fit for you/your family depending on many factors.

Thank you 🙏🏾 I loved the tips I’ll have to really commit to one of your programs. What would you suggest for a mom of a 5yo and 4yo who constantly reinstalls their seats into family and friends cars due to school and daycare needs. We are continually changing bulky seats in and out of cars because it’s safe. Do you offer coaching calls?

5 years or younger in my state kids need to be in a car seat

5 years old is not long enough for sure. I've never seen or heard of a 5-year-old who could fit properly in the adult seat belt without a booster. Most of the state laws are very poor regarding car seat safety.

Love the intro and the video 🙌🏼✨ We are using a Graco 4Ever with my son who is now 5 years old and absolutely love it. However I do know we don’t want to use it “forever” lol. We have a 1yr old who will be getting the same seat any day now, unfortunately we can’t pass it down just yet because I know our 5yr old still has another year or year and a half to go on it. Can’t wait to get him into a new high back booster though :) the change to no straps/chest clip will terrify me though! Definitely an adjustment lol

Thanks for watching! It would be possible to get a forward-facing only seat that starts as a harness and turns into a high back booster for the oldest and give the 4Ever to the youngest if you haven't bought it already.

Thank you SO MUCH for that recommendation! We are going to give my 1yr old my 5yr olds graco 4ever seat, and going with the graco Nautilus 2.0 LX for the oldest 🥰 thankfully the 4ever seat is in great condition and only a year old. Last year I was rear ended and my insurance paid for a new one. So I’m glad my youngest will get a newish seat that’s still clean with no stains yet hehe

My son is 5.5 and still in a harness seat. I'd love to keep him in one longer but he's in the 98th percentile for height so I'm going to have to transition to a booster. It makes me nervous to transition out of a harness seat. Any advice on high back (for tall kids) vs no back? Thanks!

  • @safeintheseat

    @safeintheseat

I would definitely start with a high back. In our Forward-Facing Buying Kit, we list the highest belt guide measurement for each of the boosters. Some go much taller than others. shop.safeintheseat.com/products/forward-facing-and-booster-buying-kit?_ga=2.241975810.1062719572.1680021564-1475617773.1656513980

Would the height limit be the same for forward facing booster using the harness instead of belt? Want to keep using the harness option as long as possible or do they have to switch to belt when switching to booster?

  • @safeintheseat

The harness mode height limit for the 4Ever is 49." A booster means using the seat belt to restrain the child. The harnessed mode uses the harness.

We have it in the convertible buying kit if you would like to compare it to other seats. The high back booster mode on the OneFit is much better than the 4Ever's

@@safeintheseat awesome!!! That makes me so happy! We love Chicco I have the MyFit for my oldest she’s 6, she’s still in the 5 Point harness. Son is in the NextFit Zip but it’s HUGE lol I need 3 across. My youngest is 4 months and in the Fit2 (giving to us by a family member) but it expires this August so I wanted to find something still in the Chicco brand but small enough for 3 across and one that may grow well with her. Is it good for smaller kiddos, my 3rd is my petite one. She’ll be almost a year old by August

I wish i saw this video before buying. Actually my 24 month old daughter i feel she is already outgrown this car seat. We had another car seat that came in a travel system style stroller for when she was born then we bought this 4ever seat when she is 18 months. Now when setting the height of the headrest as instructed, I see the harness position is lower than her shoulders and it ends up slipping to beside her! I am really thinking to contact Graco and knkw their comment on this

  • @safeintheseat

I can't imagine your 2-year-old has outgrown this seat, as it fits most kids in harness mode until 6-7. For rear-facing, the harness should be coming from at/or just below the shoulders. It sounds like you may have the harness too low if it's slipping off of her shoulders.
