I was hired as a colorist in a company, worked 9 whole months without a control surface (just a mouse & keyboard basically) and then FINALLY got them to buy the mini panel, boy I'd NEVER go back to grading without this again xD
Oh, congrats on 300k! Well deserved, you managed to establish as the go-to channel for Resolve beginners for literally everything. Great tutorials and showing off your slightly quirky humor are awesome for the viewers starting to dig into some complicated and at first frustrating topics :)
Hi Casey, thank you. First time I've seen a concise and clear explanation of why.
Been using the micro panel for personal use and it is amazing. 👍
Great video Casey! I’ve paired a Micro Panel with a Streamdeck XL (which I’ve programmed for quick access to tools I use frequently within the colour and edit pages) - works tremendously well. I would definitely recommend this pairing for any budget-conscious filmmakers looking to improve their workflow and actually indirectly improve the quality of their work as well. Not only does a control surface speed things up, but in turn, it frees you up to make creative choices you otherwise might not have tried. I do earn my living as a corporate/mini-doc filmmaker though (not necessarily a pure colourist). Just some extra bites for anyone on the fence!

+1 for the Micro and stream deck combo! Capable of a lot and doesn't take up too much room.

@@Gedaly so true. I forgot to add that but you're so right. Space was also a factor in my decision.

Great comment. Thanks. Can you give examples (or links to examples) of what you have programmed into the Stream Deck XL to work in tandem with the Micro Panel please?
thanks for your recommendation.
I have a version 1 tangent wave and it really does increase productivity ALOT. I find myself reaching for the panel even when its not there.
Another clear, straightforward video, Casey. Although I would like the mini panel, I bought the micro panel as it is more transportable. I work in 2 countries and the micro panel and speed editor can be easily carried in a suitcase. The minipanel is more for static use.

That's an excellent point!
Snatching up a used Micro Panel off of eBay a few years ago was one of the best decisions I made in terms of gear. It's made me a lot quicker and more precise with grading. This video has definitely made me want to step it up to the Mini soon.

But you don't get the resolve license version with your used purchase right?
Awesome showcase of the panels. Don't know if I'll get a panel anytime soon, but seeing how effective the mini panel was for hsl curves would make me deeply regret getting a micro panel instead
Good advice here generally if your gradeing 3+ times per week get the mini panel, once every 2 weeks the micro or a tangent is good recommendation (or if your a dit) if your investing in physical property & in a big film city and have constant clients +hdr then look at the advanced the mini panel in my opinion is the best value considering it covers about 70% of the Coulor page (micro is about 30% at that the price decreese last year makes it more compelling still tho hmmm)
Thanks for the video. Interestingly I did choose for the micro panel. My logic is that the balls and wheels are the highlight of the device. Not only doing two things at the same time, but the natural feel is important (for me). Second reason is simply space. I edit and color grade as a one person band in a small office. Desk real estate is a thing, hence a smaller system makes sense.
Ever since getting the micro panel, it’s hard to back to the mouse to make color adjustments. So much faster and intuitive. Highly recommended especially paired with a stream deck XL. Helps makes up the difference between the micro and mini panel.

How have you set up the Stream Deck XL? It may help me make the Micro decision purchase easier. 🙂
All good points! While I do love control panels - I'm into music production and there's so much cool mixer/daw control surfaces in there as well - there is indeed the question that you mention of whether it has enough of an added value to justify the expense. I'm also curious how any advantages the surfaces have could weigh against getting a good touchscreen - you could certainly get a nice one for the price of one of these controllers.
One option is missing: You can buy Stream Deck Plus (± $250) and the profile for DaVinci Resolve from SideShowFX (± $30). We are using this and it's very great and cheap 😀 👍🏻
The number one thing I do in Resolve is Ctrl+Z, because I screw up often.

Omg YES!!! Now granted I am super new at this skill set I have literally only made about five videos but yes yes control Z all day long
I just upgraded from the micro panel to the mini panel, and the mini panel is awesome.
You are amazing 👍🏼!
BRAVO
I tried Resolve, but decided to move back to Final Cut and Motion, Compressor and Logic Pro. I am sure Resolve is perfect for you out there and keep enjoying your work. Nothing negative about Resolve, it just was not for me.
Always, the nuances of Colour grading can only be achieved through a grading panel. I have fond memories of colour grading using the Lustre since 2008, untill I switched to a Resolve. That's when I switched to tangent panel. I don't recall a grading session without a panel.
Short answer.. YES!
awesome look at the mini panel! do you think there will be a new mini panel in the next year? i see this one has been out since 2017
Scaling in UI broken after 18.1 update. I need 100% scaling on DVR, and 150% on Windows. I just bought studio so this is the cherry on top. I've been using DVR over a year and never experienced this issue. 🙏
Have a quick question for new people getting into video editing today. How would you do it? I use Upwork right now, but nothing yet, but I’ll keep at it. I would like to know if you may want to make a video or a tweet on this subject. Thanks for all the help on DR, This video kinda hurt. I was looking at the micro panel, and now it seems like I need to save longer for Mini Panel and not have buyer regret.
Enjoyed the video! I have the speed editor and I haven't gotten into it yet (got it with my studio copy of resolve. ) Maybe your new editing course that I purchased will give me an excuse :)
Can these gear(either MINI or MICRO panel) colograding both photos and videos ?
can you control the hdr tab with the panel?
hey guys can we use loupdeck plus controller with davinci resolve???? i mean atleast for the minimum ?
has anyone used the loupedeck panel with davinci resolve? does it work well?
CASEY!!! any videos on emvato and davinci???? I'm so so so sooooooo lost!!!!
i am currently working on timelapse photo's that are not aligned. and with a bit of work creating a nice timelapse video out of it
What if I just want a panel to look cool?
So I'm and trying to find the video you had posted, mentioning someone that has premade graphics and such on their website to download for free. However we can donate to them also.
Hi Casey, Im having some issues since Resolve 18.1 came out. My ui, fonts and basically anything everything is HUGE, like twice as big as the previous version. I know you already made a video about that, but it didnt helped me. Do you have any advice on how to fix this ?

Resolve now supports your screen UI scaleing, so change your dispaly % in windows or Linux?
Thanks for providing milestones for buying gear. All too often, I feel KZreadrs make it sound like you can't do something without buying gear.
Do you have any third party surface to propose? These are ver6 expensive, especially here in Europe…
I don´t do ANY !! color grading at all. I only make KZread reviews videos, and people don´t care about it or notice, sooo........but i see the point :-)
WIsh BM would release the API so we could just make calls from Python/C/ Our own hardware. He out of box for the pro's they would still have the market. but some of the repetive tasks could be done with a voice or joystick.
What about a panel for the edit?
@akyhne
Жыл бұрын
They sell two keyboards for that.
I would defiantly never buy the advanced panel because I don't do any professional work and it is the same price as a small car, I would not want to spend money on the micro panel and then have buyers regret so yes the Mini Panel would be the sweet spot but again I do not do any professional work so I would buy it just as a luxury item if I had cash to spare (I would like to have it but don't need to have it)
Would have been cool if the black balls were colored.
I thought I was becoming a pro by getting the keyboard. 😅
