My Great Dane Atlas just passed away last Sunday from a seizure. He was five years old. He was a rescue and the best dog. A gentle giant. He will be missed.😥

This is a subject close to my heart. I raised Great Danes 34 years. I've seen the horrors and tragedy of HOD. Definitely NO puppy food! Bigger is NOT better when it comes to Great Danes! Slow and steady growth wins the race. Thanks for sharing friends!

@@kirbybrereton1410 Any high quality adult dog food which the pup thrives on can work well. I raised all my pups on Nutro Adult Chicken food. Many brands offer food now made especially for large breed pups but I have not had experience feeding those. ~ Kristine

Just wanted to pop on and say that I absolutely love your videos! I recently adopted my first Great Dane, a 15 month old named Hades. I binge watched your videos prior to getting my boy and learned so many excellent tips! Keep up the good work and I can't wait to see more awesome videos and Great Dane tips!

Previous Great Dane owner, my family had one when I was younger. We’re a military family and we moved to Colorado last year. I’m teaching myself all over again how to care for one, and find the perfect breeder/ facility to adopt one. Thank you for your video!!

Jarhead was switched to adult food at 4 months. My veterinarian with 30+ years of owning and breeding Danes herself, suggested the switch as he is a harlequin who began to grow so quickly. Thanks for the video and great content as usual guys!

Have have 2 danes. We feed the pro plan large breed. Really close to the nutritional stuff zak just said. And the dogs process it very well.

Hi I've just bought a 10 week old the breeder have us some puppy food and I've just bought a bag of bakers complete puppy food as it came up on pets at home as being for a giant dog breed. Should I not be giving her that if no what do you suggest. Thanks

hi just got a Great Dane puppy and your channel has been really helpful i was just wondering what dog food do you use?

Frequently rotate proteins early on to encourage good gut development. Cheaping out with giant bags of food in the puppy stage can cost you & your dog with digestive issues down the line. Also, if you’re kibble feeding, soak it & let it sit for 10 min or so, it helps make it easier to digest. (Kibble doesn’t clean the teeth, you need to brush!)

My puppy eats what i eat... But look up to make sure it wont kill her. I just feel like with a life expectancy of 5 to 6 years I would hate to be stuck eating kibble my whole life. So I give her what she wants

I have had 4 danes. My most recent dane lived to be 11yrs old. I fed him diamond maintenance large breed from age 3 to 11 age 1 and 2 diamond puppy food large breed and he had no health problems until 10 1/2 when his hips started to go

Thank you for this help with picking a proper food for my puppy! I do need help with an estimate or guide of how much to feed. I've been feeding basically what's on the puppy food bag and the vet said my puppy looked okay but I think she's thin and she's only 43 pounds at 5 1/2 months. I'm adding a meal for her to get more food. Do you have any advice or guidance about how much she should weigh at 6 months (she will be 6 months next week) and a food approximation? Thank you!

We feed our Dane puppy, Holistic Select 3 cups twice daily. That is what she was on since she could eat. We got her and have kept her on it. She is now 5 mo @ 65 lbs. What are the thoughts on this food. We have also been thinking of Canidae in the future?

do you think diamond naturals lrg breed adult (chicken & rice) is good for dane puppies? my last dane did not have any growth issues and did well on Fromm....but my new 17 week old developed some pretty bad knuckling in one paw early on, so I ended up switching her to this one as it had the lowest percentages I could find. I didn't really think about the calc/phos ratios and just focused in on the lowest numbers I could find (its 1.1/.09 min so seems a little high w the ratios you mentioned). calories are also on the lower side at 327. Luckily her knuckling has pretty much corrected thank goodness... so I am wondering if I should start looking at switching her. due to success I don't really want to mess with it cause it seems to be working but is it ok to keep her on this food through puppyhood? just hoping its enough for her bc she is of course growing like a radioactive weed and she's a very hungry girl lol

I have a 3 an a half month of Great Dane and she is on Victor but it’s like she’s having a hard time even wanting to eat it an it’s making her lose weight what food is good to change an feed her?

After much research and talking to Dane breeders, my girl has always kept food for myself and her previous Dane at 26% or less protein, which means no puppy foods pretty much cause they almost always have more protein than that. And she has also always free-fed Danes, so there is no scrambling to eat quickly or anything like that. Interesting fun question...how many fat Great Danes have you actually seen? Apparently our metabolisms are crazy fast so we don't get "fat" easily, which is a good thing! Thanks for sharing! ☺️

Your dog is supposed to mainly eat meat, stop feeding it so many plants.

Hi looking for some advice I've just got a 10 week old puppy and bought bakers complete puppy food as it was listed as being suitable for giant breeds. Should I not be giving her this if not what would you recommend we feed her on is kibble food she is used to from the breeder.

Gus is always so mellow! How did you get him to just be so calm and chill with you like a big sweetheart? Do you find that black Danes are more calm than fawn or brindle? Also, do you find males to be calmer than females? What factors do you look for to truly get a “Gentle Giant”?

Has anyone tried Heath Extension Large bites for their Great Dane puppy? I don’t know what to get or if I should just try the wellness complete or diamond naturals. HELP!

We raise meat rabbits. We have gone to mostly that for our guy seems to work much better for him then any store food. He has wicked allergies. Keeping him lean but healthy is definitely important.

Is Diamond naturals large breed puppies a good brand? That’s what I am currently feeding my 9 week old Dane. Everything looks good except I notice the protein is at 27%. Is that ok?

Your dog should be eating mainly meat, stop listening to these morons who think you should be feeding your dog mainly plants.

How many cups a day would you give to a 11 week male ?

my vet said purina one large breed puppy is good anything large breed puppy shes a picky eater and so far she is happy with purina one shes 5 months .. vet is happy with her weight..

It's hard to find a large puppy food with low protein.

😊 I realy do enjoy meeting you two again when I happen to come across a video I haven't seen yet❤ ...please, I strongly feel it necessary to ,always and at any kind of opportunity ,emphasise repeatedly! that one absolutely can't,mustn't get a GD (or any animal) out of fancy,caprice, ignorant of their own expectations (maybe) and reality. GDs are so special, with "special needs", they purposefully have been bred favouring ,developing certain,pronounced, typical properties . Qualities that consequentially need to be taken into account, needs to be satisfied! Their desirable, elegant size implies that you just have to love occasional clumsiness, awkwardness and often somewhat mutually cumbersome progress moving around the house and similarly tight places.They want to be and are the harmonious, companionable, co-operative, collaborative, considerate,sensitive ,gentleminded,loving,reliable and loyal friend and partner,they pine away when abandoned and rejected.they perceive their existence as a half. needing the other half to stay emotionally and mentally unimpaired.They must bond ! As long as they feel bonded they may suffer but can put up with a lot.At some point breeders have decided in favour of convenience, that everything triggering undesirable insticts,natural behaviour patterns had to be eradicated, ie.anything potentially arousing conflictive notions, s a dominance,competition etc.,left with not much individual autonomy to defend.So lovely,so deserving,left so extra needing ...in several European countries there are more GDs living in shelter than out, having owners.Who wants and is able to cope with a seriously traumatised GD,how many realistically could offer the nessessary conditions ? Puppies have different nutritional needs then full grown dogs. Good puppy foods support that nutritional need.

How about the puppy food are I should say dog food for extra large dogs play high-end Victor's puppy food large breed

I feed my great dane Diamond puppy food.. Does anyone have a problem with their Great Dane getting bored of their food..My puppy will eat one for about 2 months then no longer wants it..

If you take away the food after 30 minutes do they eat their following meals well? It could be that they’re in between growth spurts and their appetite has temporarily dropped

@@GreatDaneCare no mine prefers to dump it all over than to eat it..my vet said she will eat..However she dosent she looses weight..So with my vets help I switch..She eats it well for a couple months then the same again.She is a year old now. I bought her at 9 weeks and it hasnt changed. I always thought changing food for dogs was unhealthy..Not sure why she does this

Vomiting his food could be a sign of other issues, like megaesophagus or he could just be eating too fast. I definitely would check with your vet first! But I haven't had great results with arcana in other breed puppies. They just don't have the nice coat that means they're really healthy. Hope this helps!

I personally feed my puppy Great Dane a mix of puppy food and adult food

The breeder for my puppy Baby said adult food, with boil chicken and cotton cheese. No puppy food.

I mix it in with my iams large breed that I get from sams. Gives a little extra flavor but you won't go broke buying bags and bags of the sams club food.

Is the lamb and rice large breed food? My Dane is intolerant to chicken and I’m trying to find a non-chicken based food that I don’t have to get a 2nd job to be able to afford! So many large dogs are allergic to chicken but yet there is so few large breed non-chicken food.
