Should Christians Keep the Sabbath?

Should Christians Keep the Sabbath?
The Sabbath is not about a day off but about a day of rest, reflection, and rejuvenation.
1. Old Testament Law of Sabbath
Sabbath was the fourth commandment
Sabbath was celebrating God’s creation. (Ex. 20v11)
Sabbath was a day of rest from labor. (Lev. 23v3)
Sabbath was to reflect on deliverance from Egypt. (Deut. 5v15)
Sabbath was a witness to other nations. (Ex. 31v13)
2. New Testament Practice of Sabbath
The new covenant does not command any particular day to be observed by Christians (Rom 14v5-6; Gal. 4v9-11).
Sabbaths are not named among the necessary requirements of the gospel (Acts 15v20)
Each of the Ten Commandments is repeated in the New Testament, except for the command to Sabbath (interestingly, the command to work remains clear in passages like 2 Thessalonians 3v10).
3. The principle of the Sabbath
Trust God to supernaturally provide.
Example: 7 days Adventist - they live 10 years longer - amounts to a lifetime of the sabbath

We Christians are not under the law or any single commandment of the whole. You can't just chose one of them and obey it. Are you under the Law? No. Why then obey the Law. You're setting yourself under a curse. Our Sabbath, we Christians, is in Christ Jesus, it's a spiritual rest, not a physical one. That's ultimately where all of the "Jesus is the Sabbath" arguments come from. Satan knows that if he can deceive ppl about the Sabbath enough to oppose it, they won't really believe Jesus is ever coming back to restore the rule of God in this world.

@@David-Zita you are right! we are not under the law (the letter) but we are under the holy spirit (Grace) grace that empower us to obey God's commantments under the help of the holy spirit therefore we should be walking by the spirit in us obeying God's written law in our hearts. Thats why it is written that He did not came to abolish the law but to fulfill it. By fulfill it does not mean to abolish it but rather to bring the promise to completion with a better way to keep the law as Jesus did and not as the pharisees did. The Ten commandments still valid. I encourage everyone who read this to study the bible in its original language Hebrew and Greek so you are not reading the bible with a western perspective. We have to remember that Jesus was jewish and he was born under the law and we have to study how he was able to keep it in its entirety and we must follow that example. Lets not be deceived by this other western white Jesus with blue eyes, blonde hair been preached here in America. Lets wake up people we need true revival in the American church.

yes, the new covenant did not remove Sabbath from the ten commandments, moreover we are told to obey these commandments (the moral law) in 1 Cor. 7:19 : 1 John 2:3-6 : John 14:21 : John 15:10 : Luke 6:46. What really happens in the new covenant was announced by Jeremias in 31:33, that the moral law would be written in our minds and hearts, that is, including the moral aspects of the sabbath day (the fourth commandment in Exodus 20). Jesus even says that the sabbath was made for mankind (Mark 2:27), and that refers back to the creation, when the sabbath was set apart and sanctified as a special day. And there are promises for us if we keep the sabbath, check Isaiah 58:13,14.

Excuse the phrase..."don't sh** where you eat". We keep the traditions to an extent, but adapt a bit. The Pharisees got mad cause the Disciples didn't wash their hands before they hate...that was more they didn't do the whole ceremony hand wash that the Pharisees added tot he law. Most the issue was due to how the Pharisees did that....they were given the 10 Commandments but thought their needed to be MORE laws and added their own ways on top.

@thesequeiras4003 Saturday is the sabbath. Sunday has never been. The catholic church has people going to church on Sunday for sun worship; even if they don't worship the sun. The catholic church has confused people by stating Jesus rose from the grave on Sunday, so we should worship Him then... But, the sabbath is and will always be Saturday. In fact Jesus rested on the sabbath while He was in the grave and rose again the next day. The people in Israel still to this day shut down their country on Friday at 7pm until Saturday at 7pm. In the book of genesis, God says that each day is evening to morning. Not morning to evening. The original Hebrew language the days of the week were day 1, day 2, day 3, day 4, day 5, day 6, and the sabbath. Which is what their language translated to English was. God made the sabbath for man, not man for the sabbath. With that being said, I observe the sabbath by not buying or selling if I can help it. Spending time with God.

It is written:8 Remember the sabbath day, to keep it holy. 9 Six days shalt thou labor, and do all thy work: 10 But the seventh day is the sabbath of the LORD thy God: in it, thou shalt not do any work, thou, nor thy son, nor thy daughter, thy manservant, nor thy maidservant, nor thy cattle, nor thy stranger that is within thy gates: 11 For in six days the LORD made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that in them is, and rested the seventh day: wherefore the LORD blessed the sabbath day and hallowed it. Exit 20-8:11 12 Moreover also I gave them my sabbaths, to be a sign between me and them, that they might know that I am the LORD that sanctify them. 20 And hallow my sabbaths, and they shall be a sign between me and you, that ye may know that I am the LORD your God. Ezekiel 20-12,20 13 Speak thou also unto the children of Israel, saying, Verily my sabbaths ye shall keep: for it is a sign between me and you throughout your generations; that ye may know that I am the LORD that doth sanctify you. Christian's should keep the day of rest...within reason...if there is something that NEEDS to be done then do it. IE if you keep animals and have to save one on the Sabbath do it, or go to thr hospital and be heald...do it. But if it's not absolutely necessary...then rest and leave it til Sunday. The Roman Catholic and Early Christian's in general began changing the day and traditions after the Jewish revolution not wanting to be lumped in with the Israeli Jews and the Catholic church continued to change things later. History repeat...the Israelis reverted back to the pagan Egyptian ways in the wilderness cause it made them feel "safe" and they didn't really trust Moses or God. He was without sin and fulfilled the law. Thus to say he did not keep sabbath is blasphemy. Lastly he came to express and teach how to keep sabbath. He did not honor and remember the sabbath the way the Pharisees and Sadducees kept sabbath by following the instructions of Moses. So they accused him of breaking the sabbath. But instead he expressed that you should do well on the sabbath and that it was legal to do good works on the sabbath and he always went to the synagogue to read scripture, teach and do the will of our FATHER in heaven on the sabbath. He taught the sabbath was made for man, not man for the sabbath. If you doubt what I say , good. Paul says prove all things and hold fast to all that is true. This is so true! However I think it’s important to note that the Pharisees didn’t necessarily keep the sabbath in accordance with the way Law of Moses commands. The Pharisees were privy to adding rabbinical teachings to the Law of Moses. These were like traditions that they would add to the commandments; they added doctrines of men to the commandment of God ( see Matt 15:9 and Mark 7: 1-12). This reflected in how they kept the sabbath too. They added extra restrictions on how the sabbath should be kept-Restrictions that God himself never commanded in the Law. This is why they hated Jesus, he didn’t adhere to their extra, man-made Rabbinical teachings.

(Isaiah 66) (Ezekiel 46:1) Thus saith the Lord GOD; The gate of the inner court that looketh toward the east shall be shut the six working days; but on the sabbath it shall be opened, and in the day of the new moon it shall be opened. I am confident in my decision but wish no hate on others. I like to keep it simple: if Jesus did it, I cannot go wrong following his example. And for me, the 10 Commandments are just that. "Legalism" is a term that liberals use when they are given God's position on a matter. The term is used a lot like "homophobic" or "transphobic", and for the same reason: ppl like to make up whatever terms they can to insulate themselves from God's truth. They are the personification of what the scriptures say when it speaks of ppl whose conscience is seared with a hot iron.

Jesus taught the disciples to follow the 4th commandment- To remember the Sabbath (the 7th day, Saturday) and to keep the Sabbath day holy. Christ was crucified on a Friday; the scripture below is from just after the crucifixion. Luke 23:52‭-‬56 KJV This man went unto Pilate, and begged the body of Jesus. And he took it down, and wrapped it in linen, and laid it in a sepulchre that was hewn in stone, wherein never man before was laid. And that day was the preparation, and the sabbath drew on. And the women also, which came with him from Galilee, followed after, and beheld the sepulchre, and how his body was laid. And they returned, and prepared spices and ointments; and rested the sabbath day according to the commandment.

We cannot just 'pick a day' as the sabbath. Scripture tells us what day the sabbath is. Genesis 2:2 says God rested on the seventh day. And Matthew 28:1 says 'after the sabbath, the dawn of the first day of the week'. This is the day Jesus was raised from the dead. He was raised on the first day of the week, which was Sunday. And if Sunday is the first day of the week, then Saturday is the seventh day, which is the sabbath day that God took rest. You can't just make up whatever day you want to be the sabbath :/ Even our calendars still show Sunday as the first day of the week. They are true and correct.

I’ve recently found your ministry online and have enjoyed your teachings very much. I love your passion and your commitment to the Lord. Anyway i recently came across this teaching and after listening to it i felt to leave a comment and i never comment on these things most likely no one will read it haha but here goes… I agree with your comments about what we should be doing on the sabbath eg: spending time in the word, family day, no spending money or causing others to work, less time on technology etc. However the link between the 7th day and the sabbath day are intrinsically linked throughout the entire scripture that to take a sabbath on another day is not observing or remembering the sabbath day as God has instructed us but simply a rest day. Sure there are benefits to resting on another day but the blessing is when we obey his commandments. It is an act of worship and showing our love and devotion to God. Its not a salvation issue but the fruit of our salvation. The word says if we love God we will obey his commandments and his commandments are not burdensome(1Jn 2-3, Deut 30:11) I have been keeping a fri sunset to Sat sunset sabbath for almost 6 years now with my husband and kids. Before this I attended a charismatic church and was a worship leader there. During the last 6 years Ive seen the blessing and protection of God. My 2 older children were baptized in our pool during covid Yah blessed us with our third child in my mid forties to the shock of everyone else around me. Another notable thing that happened in this time was a conviction to leave my job to be full time at home as a keeper of the home (amazing testimony cause i was very career driven etc) Anyway i have also been quite persecuted because of our change in direction in our faith from other close christians which are also family unfortunately. It has brought a refinement in my faith that i have not thought possible. Its been the hardest thing I’ve endured thus far ( I understand this is nothing of what other have endured in their faith) in my faith walk since coming a christian 20 years ago but I wouldn’t change it i keep on cause ive seen Yahs faithfulness, his love, his grace and his mercy in this journey. Besides keeping the biblical sabbath we have also let go of the traditions of the Christian faith-easter & christmas for the Lords feasts days instead. The richness and growth in our faith from understanding these feast days are incredible. They are all about Jesus his redemption story and his soon return on his calendar not the gregarian calendar the world follows. Ive come to understand that a lot of what we do and follow as Christians come from the traditions of the roman catholic church. Part of this journey has been understanding church history and why we believe the things we do even though its not in the word of God. I feel like when Jesus spoke to the pharisees way back then he is speaking to the modern church the exact same thing in Matt 15:3 He answered them ‘And why do you break the commandants of God for the sake of your tradition” like the religious leaders of Jesus day have we too set aside his commandments and keeping the traditions of the faith instead following a different jesus. Jesus warns us repeatedly in scripture do not be deceived…perhaps we have been cause i know i was 😢 Shalom

I like how you have balanced the explanation though..but still come straight - Saturday is the True Sabbath 😊. It takes a lot of courage for a Pastor to say that the seventh day Shabbat is still the day of the Lord. In Isaiah it says that during the 1000 year kingdom of peace all the peoples (incl. gentiles) will worship God on the Sabbath. Saying that we can choose *any* day of the week as our Sabbath is like saying that Adam and Eve could choose *any* tree in the garden and not eat of it. Interesting parallel, the tree of knowledge of good and evil was in the middle of the garden and so was the tree of life. By word count in the Hebrew bible, "the day" is the center of the ten commandments. The first tablet contains the "love the Lord" commandments. The second tablet contains the "love your neighbor" commandmens.

Thank you for the video. A few friends of mine and I have been discussing this (which day is the right day-is Sunday a false sabbath, etc.) and it was nice to hear your explanation. I always gain something from your teaching. 😊

Romans 2:13 For it is (not) those who ( hear) the law who are righteous in Elohiym sight, but it is those who (obey the law) who will be (declared righteous). Romans 3:31“Do we then make void the law through faith? Certainly not! On the contrary, we establish the law.

If the rest of the law is mandate then so is the Sabbath. God says he changeth not. It’s Friday evening to Saturday evening. Amen 🙏🏾

Thank you for that, it clarifies it all for me! I was born and raised a 7th day Adventist and Saturday was simply a day of rest not by “law” but simply because God rested on that day. I try to do the same, however i feel like the first day of the week is a good day to go to church and praise God as a way to start the week but not a rest day.

The Holy Spirit has moved you to keep the 7th day a day of rest, and you are correct about the principle of the Sabbath which is not the restrictive burdens added by the Jews. You described Sabbath-keeping well around the 14 minute mark. It is a HUGE blessing! Yes, we are to keep the 4th Commandment for the same reason we keep the other nine. However, we cannot impose our own will over God’s and just choose any day of the week. According to Deuteronomy 4:2, “Do not add to what I command you and do not subtract from it, but keep the commands of the Lord your God that I give you.” We are not at liberty to alter God’s commands one “jot or tittle.” Find any example in which God accepted less than perfect obedience. We are promised the Holy Spirit and grace to cover our imperfect obedience but not our rebellion of doing our own will.

Too many Christians say Jesus fulfilled the law but he never really said such. He kept the laws to a sense because He was the Law. Youre saved through both Faith AND works....if youre truly saved your works will show that by you naturkeeping the Commandments. Thats my theory anyway. Too many say they know Jesus and are saved, but their works arent ahowing it...they go out drinking, partying and all that...partaking in appropriated Pagan holidays that the Ran Catholics appropriated. I personally keep Saturday as the Sabbath or try, and try not to do any real work...unless i HAVE TO...IE if i have to take my vehicle to the shopor something like that. I also no longer observe Christmas OR EASTER because they are Pagan holidays and appropriated to get the Pagans to convert. I have come to the conclusion even Feast days we as Christian's need to adapt a bit seeing most involve burnt offerings and sacrifice a nd God said those are abominations to him, and Jesus was out last sacrifice anyway...no need to offer sacrifices anymore. But back to the Sabbath...i only try to do the 7th day because i dont grow anything on my land to let thr land rest. I just try and read the Bible on Saturday more and watch Biblical videos on KZread and pray. Just relax and i do feel better since i have started. Its fine if Christian's keep these things, seeing we've been grafted into the Olive Tree and we are just as much Jew in spirit as those in Blood. We just have to adapt certain things a bit since we dont do sacrifice anymore. We just have to use it to get closer to God and Jesus...Christian's are meant to almsot make the Jewish people jealous in a sense because of our relationship with the Father....

We all need to know the book of Jubillees chapter 4&6 says the 364 days a year. The sabbath is the 7 day but not on the Gregorian calendar. We need to know how to tell the time of Yahuah’s calendar in the sky not the paper calendars. If anyone teaches to break the least of these commandments will be accursed. Yes, thankfully staying in Christ keeps us in the house

Christ came to fulfil the law not to destroy it.The Sabbath of the Lord is valid now and even in the new world to come! The 10 commandments are an instruction to all Christians in their entirety, you can't base your argument on removing part of God's law because the word of God says if you break one you have broken all .

Sabbath is the fourth commandment given to Moses by YAH. YASHUA kept the Sabbath. Sunday worship was invented by men. You are really missing the point 😢 We don't choose His day of rest. He gave it to us on His fourth commandment. Please pray about this very carefully.

I've been trying to practice Sabbath but I recently thought about the fact that I make purchases on that day so now it feesl like I'm only doing it halfway. In order for me to truely practice Sabbath as a law I'd have to live in a Society that practices that as well (& even practices all the OT laws). However I do try & rest on Saturdays & minimize my tasks so I can give my 🧠 a rest & allow some 3on1 time with God(me & my 2 kids).

You're not alone in this feeling. I've got myself ordering things online or such. It's hard...it can be done...but remember if something has to be done...like to to a doctor or hospital...do it. Car repairs and the garage is only open Saturday and not Sunday...I've done it and just pray about it later. He knows of it's a purchase that has to be done or made. Just be the light to this society like we should be.

It’s interesting that in the study you mention, 7th day Adventists live 10 years longer than Christians. If 75 year olds had kept 52 sabbaths per year (each Saturday) that would come out to a life that’s 10.7 years longer 🤔

Over the last six months to a year I had begun observing a Friday night to Saturday night Sabbath. I fast and try to spend as much of the day as possible in The Word, mostly just reading or listening to The Bible, but I also will watch some services. I am really glad I found this video. I have been in The New Testament today, Galatians, Ephesians, Philippians, and Thessalonians, and I have just felt slightly conflicted. I know that it is through Jesus Christ we are saved, not the keeping of the Law and Commandments, which we have all broken. But I said to my other believing friends, I don't know that the day is critical anymore, but just that we do take a day for The LORD. I am encouraged by your interpretation as well! It isn't this particular observance that will save us, but it is a sign of our faith in The LORD. I am also very encouraged to hear the statistic about Seventh Day Adventists! Fasting is becoming very popular these days, and many are citing it to be medically beneficial. Hence, The Sabbath being made for man, not man for The Sabbath.
