Its completely closed stance and the suggested hand position would restrict him from playing cut or pull shots. I dont believe it was a good suggestion for the boy.

He is not talking about stance, he is talking about back lift of the bat, he is telling him to keep lose the right hand in order to get proper backlift so that the ball stays grounded.
