The camaraderie and brotherhood is not what people think it is. Between the toxic work environment, low pay, and subpar benefits, I had no qualms about changing careers while still being able to serve my hometown in a volunteer role. The job isn't what you think it is. Departments punish the new guy by putting them on the ambulance and run them all night long. I couldn't work a second job due to sleep deprivation so I was stuck. Call me a wuss but it is what it is. Suicide in first responders are skyrocketing and my mental health was tanking. I made the smart choice to get out while I still could.

Welp, what do they expect, even around here where the cost of living is sky high they want you to jump through hoops to get a FF/Paramedic job, but they want to pay you 50 cents an hour to do it!! PAY PEOPLE, that's the issue! The department that they showed has an age cut off that is also ridiculous, 30?!!

They should get rid of the age limit and allow people across state lines to apply. It might not fix the problem as a whole but I'm sure there are people in Kansas and people who live outside of city limits that would like to work.

The KCFD hires on WOKE. Why would good people want to work in that environment?
