The MR2 is one of japans most iconic cars. Mid engine, Turbo, RWD, Small and manual. Theres nothing else like it from japan and it displays how serious Toyota was back then. Its way more special then a S2k trust me. I still keeping my eye out on buying one of these real unique car. Should have gone more into details of the engine tho the 3Sgte is a beast. Awesome car.

Fredy Rivera Its more special then the S2k. One is more rare then a S2k. Two its midengine. Three it came boosted. Four it looks like a type of Ferrari. Five pop upheadlights FTW. At the time the Mr2 looked like nothign else out of japan. S2k is cool but the MR2 is more unqiue then a S2000.

Its been said they have a old school Ferrari design. Even Motorweek review (go watch) said the MR2 has a Ferrari design. It looks unique the s2k doesn't look unique. People question what the Mr2 is because it looks so different.

+CARS ONBOARD This is a great channel, would I be right in saying you've taken a little inspiration from Petrolicious? It seems that way, and there's certainly nothing wrong with that. It's like Petrolicious for modified cars. Great work :) On a side note, I'm a Subaru man, but the SW20 MR2 is definitely on my top 5 list of cars I would love to own!

so rad. when I was younger some guy pulled up next to me at a red light and his MR2 was all chopped up, had no roof, a crazy roll bar, and to top it off he had a Ferrari badge on the hood. I was sooooo confused haha I kept asking what it was and he'd yell back "it's a Ferrari man!" then he busted the fattest skid around a corner and took off. I have a video but it's super dark out. to this day i'm still not even positive it was an MR2

Probably one of the best MR2 videos, I love his backstory, especially his brother guiding him in the right direction and support; shows he has a brain and passion for what he loves....cars and his family.

New to the MR2 community here! I have to say, after having 240's and Civics for years and years (since '03) the MR2 community is the most mature and helpful car community I've ever been a part of. There's no chastising, hating, telling people to "let me google that for you", etc etc. Love my MK II NA so far and plan on going 3SGTE later this summer :)

I'm a Fiero enthusiast and owner, so I always enjoy watching vids about it's Japanese counterpart. I enjoy seeing other people's interpretation of what they believe a vehicle should be, and this young man's car is definitely unique. Also, the production quality of your videos is excellent. Good job guys.

+PaulCon Being an older Toyota the clear coat is probably pretty much gone at this point, especially if it's been a California car. Compound and polish might remove the top layer of "dead" paint and bring back the shine but it would only be very temporary. Regardless, nice vid and car.

For best results you'd sand the car down, apply a new base coat, wetsand, apply clear coat, wet sand again and then buff with a good compound, followed by polish and then finally wax.

That has the be the nicest MR2 I've ever seen!!!

Beautiiful little film!

I remembered always seeing 3rd gens when I was younger and thinking they were funny but cool looking Porsches. Then I saw a second gen and fell in love with the look of the car, definitely something unique you don't see every day even today. Especially the back ends of the second gens are my favorite, the back windshield, the vents, the tail lights. Currently saving up for one and I hope I can get one sooner than later.

First time I saw a MR2 Freshman year My Brother took me to first car meet in his Celica. Everyone didn't know what it was and got every ones attentions as it was pushing 500hp. Spoke to the guy who built it as he sold it to his friends to own his dream car NSX. Told anything is possible even your dream car. Instally fell in love with it as it was a different. Originally wanted a 350 just due to my budget I got my MR2 just recently 91 MR2 Turbo. Drove to up Nor Cal to pick it and now in SoCal. My brother told me to wait to be patient as it will pop up as sure enough it did, thanks to my brother for getting to the car scene and helping me fix my car. Just waiting to get my licence just recently turned 18. Rios-Rico IG You should film my brothers Celica Clean car

my spark was when I was 10, my sister; at the time was dating this guy ross that would leave his playstation at the house so i could play Gran Turismo 1-2. Btw I'm 26 now and lost my passion for being a grease monkey as a profession... Oahu sucks.... Very cool video and thumbs up

there is a N/A 3S-GE as well for the SW20. idk whether you get that in the US tho

+GoProErthang Yup. Pretty much everywhere outside the US the 3S-GE was the standard NA engine. The 5S-FE being better suited to an automatic transmission than the 3S-GE, is only an American and Australian NA spec.

+atsernov Just thought I'd patch you up here, us Aussie's never got the 5S-FE either. All of our MR2s are either imported JDM-spec ones (like my mates 1990 G-Limited SW20) OR a "Bathurst" model like mine which is a special Australian-only model which is a lighter G-Limited (no power steering, no air con, interior 'lightened'). Both came with the 3S-GE. The only turbos we have over here are the JDM GTs as well, there we never any Australian built 3S-GTEs

Trey K I did find it odd the source listed the 5S-FE as an Australian spec also. But I had no real way double check. Is it at all possible it was packaged specifically with the automatic in Australia? Seems unlikely though, probably just a mixup in the article.

If you get a good set of coilovers or lowering springs, decent tires and rims and don't drive like a fool/racecar driver especially on public roads, you'll never see snap oversteer.

Then again if you track it you might spin out, it's sort of like how old Porsches race from what I've seen and my experience. Brake before starting the turn into corners and keep a steady throttle throughout. You can accelerate out of the corner (at the end of the turn) just don't accelerate too much during as you'll probably spin out. Extremely wide tires and sticky tires would make it almost impossible to snap oversteer. Last bit of advice is if you see an aluminum block engine swap such as a 1mz v6, k20 or 2gr grab it if it was a decently built one. Probably want to be sure it's a e153 turbo transmission at least, good electrical work. My two 1mz v6 mr2s that I had were much more balanced than the iron block 4 cylinders, plus no turbo lag to spin you out. They're special cars for sure, plus it has a great community!

If you want a cheap version just get the na 5sfe manual transmission, just don't expect to win at autocross as it has little power. Or stay on course as it has an iron block, so it's unbalanced. Probably fun to ride around town with though!

Last but not least, maintenance and depending where you live winter. There's a problem the turbo models get that are engine out repairs, so expensive. If you're up north make sure you have a daily driver... I think that's everything! Good luck!

John Sullivan I live in america and on craigslist alone i can find quite a few for sale within about an hours drive. Also since i live on the Canadian border I can only drive in one direction and its a very limited radius. I might get one as an alternative to my rx8 and sunfire. ones in good condition are going for 2 to 4k. already with turbo and ready to go at 400whp is 7k. Not sure why you cant find them.

clownavenger different locations have different availability. i live down in texas. i swear all i can find down here are muscle cars. it makes sense you can find them up north whenever i do a used car search they are always up north near like Minnesota or Illinois. no clue why

Just stock fenders cut up with a spacer or rod that bolts up the by the trim
