Great tips! I learned how to dive on the Central Coast of CA. My OW dives consisted of shore dives where I couldn't even see my hand in front of my face and the surge was so bad we had to hold onto each other. I feel like if you can dive off the CA coast, especially shore dive, you can dive almost anywhere. Now my husband and I shore dive in Hawaii and it's so easy! It's like going into a pool.

Awesome tips Evan and Jeff! We all know St. Croix has some tricky entries, and exits, along with current, rips and environmental logistics that need to be overcome and studied before a dive! Keep bringing the great content! Thanks guys!

Thanks Lyell! Yes, there's a lot to think about when entering and exiting, and often these things are not taught. Hope to help at least one diver!

Lots of great information and tips we can always use. We have been using walking sticks to help navigate some of the rocky and wavy entrances in STX, helps keep the older bodies upright. Your video sure covers the logistics of shore diving well. Thanks !!!

Thanks Todd! Using a walking stick is a great idea, I can see one coming in handy at sites such as North Star and getting out at the Pier. Thanks for watching!

Great content as always. Definitely this is something they never teach you in your class and all those great tips will save you from having a bad day, even as an experienced diver if you have been diving calmed waters it is always good to think before you act, definitely great advice, keep the good work.

I like to clip my fins off until I'm ready to don them. I use a leash mainly or in the tropics I use a double ender.

Great tips and video! But I'm lucky since I got to hear these from you when you were my instructor a few years ago at Cane Bay. Hope to see you soon, and by the way, my wife is now talking about trying scuba, thanks to these vids and our time a few years back. Thanks!

Great to hear from you. It’s wonderful you’re wife is thinking about trying scuba diving. It’s so relaxing just to hang out with the fish for a while. I’m sure she’ll fall in love with it.

I forget that most diving isn’t shore diving. We teach a lot of these skills to OW and AOW when we train here in Monterey because we have too - everyone is certified in a series of shore dives at San Carlos Beach aka the The Breakwater where we deal with unpredictable conditions all the time. Your recommendations are exactly what we teach here. Realizing not everyone learns this makes me glad a learned here. This is just diving here. Great stuff, you guys nailed it again.

Thanks for sharing your experience with shore diving and the use of these skills. It's good to hear what other new divers experience whether in Monterey, a quarry, or the Caribbean. We hope to inform so divers are prepared as they travel to new places, or even experience more exciting conditions here on St. Croix. Happy diving!

I got my OW on the Central Coast (Montana del Oro, Los Osos). It was brutal. If you can dive CA, especially shore dive, you can dive anywhere.

Is there any risk that the current of water pulls you in and you can't get close to the shore? For example, when swimming it is usual to hear that one risk is that the flow of water (or current of water) could pull you in to the ocean
