Tough day, good crab experiment

Hi Graeme, Crickey i forgot the time on your video. Working crazy hours lately and up in Dundee and Perth, St Andrews etc. Driving me mad travelling over Tay Bridge without a Rod in the water each day. The Fresh Water looks amazing in Perth too. I really need to stop working and enjoy life more. Steve in Fife.

Love the crab bag experiment. I was fishing in Pevensey last year quite a few other anglers about, no bites until..."fish on!" and heaved what I thought was a big head shaking fish in only to find a massive spider crab who got tangled in my line and bumping along bottom on the retrieve felt like a fish. Embarrassing but took it home though and actually really tasty.

Don't apologise, Graeme. Any trip that doesn't end in a 'blank' is a good'un, mate. I like to watch your Sea Fishing episodes as well, because you still keep coming up with even more tips to help winkle the Fish out. Nice one!

Just started watching you Graeme on your KZread channel, lots of great tips, love the comedy cracks, brilliant mate keep it up .

I really don't know what it is about these old school classic sea fishing episodes that feels like coming home, or reading a book you love and can enjoy reading it time and again. I'd often watch these way back when I was away for work, land locked and with zero hope of a day's fishing by the sea. I'd plan my next fishing trip, often months in advance, learn new skills like rig making, how to fish for minimal spend by making leads, booms, spinners, etc and how to target different species I'd never even see in real life let alone caught. My first conger was the product of your years of knowledge freely gifted, my first bass was from watching and re-watching some of your oldest work, I learned the terminology to not look like the new kid I was and to scratch about and save the blank time and time again. I've passed on this knowledge freely to others both in person and by recommending your channel and your tutorials to so many new sea anglers over the years. Thank you for these timeless classics, they add more value than I think you could possibly realise. 👍🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿

The amount of rules my freshwater clubs now have I wish I lived closer to places like that beautiful spot. Fishing was so simple when I started some 60 plus years ago!

That's exactly why I enjoy sea fishing..I went to one day ticket fishery that had to put up 2 huge boards listing all the "do's" and "dont's"...Also the reason I don't bother with joining fishing clubs. All I want to do is enjoy a day's fishing,and although sea fishing can be a lot harder nowadays it still gives you that sense of the unknown. Just get some bait and go !!

The trick with the mesh bag is a good one. You could also try mosquito mesh or even things like and old onion bag. It reminds me of some lakes in New Zealand where they fish for eels but you're not allowed to use hooks. So they used a bunch of knitting wool dipped in bait. The eels have lots of fine teeth that get tangled in the wool fibres and can't easily let go. I find that when you catch a crab on a line that it's best to slow your retrieve and keep them down a bit in the water. When they surface is when they tend to try and let go to escape. If they've tangled up in the line it's easier.

They used that method in the olden days over here in UK,Suffolk and Norfolk area I believe,its called "babbing" and is mentioned in old fishing books.

New sub here. Have been watching TA outdoors for about 6-8 months. Wonderful channel, wonderful family. Love your always having a laugh. You guys work hard are ingenious in the things you do. Regular rube Goldbergs you are. Now it's time to learn fishing. Shelter and food. Do you all have a cooking or home channel. Don't mention DIY!!! TA fishing should be called TA fishing and DIY. Plenty of DIY mixed in his fishing videos. And Graeme has many wonderful cooking tutorials. What he can't do with a tin of spaghetti Bolognese and a camping burner isn't worth knowing. You've stumbled on the greatest channel on KZread. Congratulations you've hit the jackpot

I was fishing this exact spot last week I got about 8 bass and 3 silver eels

Another wonderful video, I've watched them all, I think so anyway lol. I'm a little jealous right now, I'm a Brit in Newfoundland, Canada and it's almost impossible to get a beachcaster tripod/rest or large gripper leads. They just don't use beachcasters here, they don't know what they're missing :-) Look forward to your next awesome video. :-)

Great video and tips Graham. Just watching your rig and thought. Why do we always put worm on head first so is up the line. Surely fish would rather take it head first. So put it on tail first so head is at the point off hook. I will try this, theory tomorrow 👍

I am told I am a pretty crap fisherman, but like yourself I like doing my own thing which is often a bit unconventional. But just recently I have had some great success fishing for Bass fishing the estuaries and creeks in Norfolk Uk. All I have had is a small spinning rod with fixed spool reel and 10lb line the bait had been either small Lug which I have dug as the tide recedes in Wells Next The Sea (virtually no one fishes there) or the creeks on Breydon Water near Great Yarmouth. My end tackle had usually been a two hook flapping with small hooks and a weight of about an 1 .1/2 oz. They has been incredible successful and I my trip to Well I had 15 fish within the hour until the Lug ran out, as for Yarmouth I had 6 using Squid tentacles which seem to work just are well. The critical things seems to be the tide, if it running too fast in or out then nothing, but as soon as things slow down and there is some slackening, it goes crazy until the tide picks up, then all is gone. But just great sport, not huge fish some small some upto about 3lb but they fight like hell on light tackle as you will know. Unfortunately Covid has interrupted this, but I am now back feeling stronger than ever, despite being not far beyond you Mr TA….

Sounds like you are having some good sport and have got the tides sorted out,which is usually a priority. Well done,and hopefully a lunker Bass will be heading your way soon.

@@TAFishing Yes thanks, but it’s okay having the tides sorted, but they are very really convenient with when one wants to fishing, but I guess it’s the name if the game really. On another matter it really seems to make a difference on how light you can fish {don’t know if you agree) but the lighter my tackle can be the more I catch, this goes for both river and sea. But since using a tiny 4 metre elasticated pole and a very light rig with a barbless hook no bigger than 14, I have never caught so many fish including Perch up to 2lb and accidental Pike up to 10lb plus, which many Pike anglers often close by look at me with disgust. Yesterday I fished a crystal clear weedy river Bure where I was told I was wasting my time, I used the above methods and fed handful of maggots every cast and I couldn’t stop catching, nothing huge except a Pike which this ultra light gear managed adequately and for the fact that the hook went in the scissors of the Pikes mouth which did frequently happen. Anyway my theory is to fish the lightest you can possible get away with as it pays dividends and most tackle has improved beyond belief to enable one to get away with this…

Caught a massive sand eel last year while fishing for bass. It was almost 6 oz. The record is 8 oz. It's in the fridge awaiting the autumn pike. Never tried sand eel dead baits, so who knows?

I'm a beginner had a float set up that a bought and attached that with a blood knot to a clip. When to cast and it came off. I'm sea shore fishing 🎣 should I be using a shock leader so I can cast thurther

Sounds like your blood knot slipped over the loop end of the clip ? Or check your knots.If it has a tiny curl at the end it means it has slipped,and that is unfortunately down to the person that tied it..I've done that a few too many times.

graeme do ever use the i.s.p. savage gear seekers for bass? i see loads on here using them for bass, ive a great fishing hack on my channel for them mate, great vid as per

No I don't use any Savage lures,just stick to Sidewinder Shads or the weighted Redgills.

I don't personally but some do lure fish for Bass however its tough with all the weed in the water in that area.

i used my wifes old stocking for crab.
