Ain't no reason to go run and give a place like Saks fifth avenue your money if you're black, even if you are a rich black person! I don't like spending my money in places where they don't value me or my money the way that they should! They'll take it if you spend it with them, but some of these white brands ain't sweating it if black people don't spend no money with them! This has got to be a joke, if someone is suspected of shoplifting, they give a DESCRIPTION of the person. So they go to him, find out he wasn't the shoplifter, acknowledged it was a mistake and let him go. and just because he is "black", he is making a fuss and now it's national news? .. just because he's black? This whole thing is just anti yt and it's out of control and blatent now. Nothing happened in this story except to post a false narrative from blacks, when we all know they have the most privelege in this country... and the replies in this video are from bots.

Back in the 60's, when I was a teen, we had an independently owned high end department store where the only sales people I ever saw were grumpy old ladies. I'm sure the company trained them to target young people. Since our high school was downtown, a few blocks from this store, we would sometimes go in browsing the merchandise. It was so frustrating when you needed help from a saleslady to not be able to find one, even though occasionally you could see them peeking from behind something to make sure you weren't shoplifting. So the ONLY time I went in to that store was if I couldn't find it anywhere else. That was the first and last time I ever saw a young woman working there, probably in her 20's. She greeted me and asked me what she could help me find. I got superb service from her. As I left, I wondered why they didn't have any other sales people like her. I never saw her again, but that was probably close to the last time I entered that store. As far as I'm concerned there are 2 reasons that I will refuse to purchase anything from a store/restaurant/service center. One, pretend like you don't know I'm there and 2 treating me like a criminal just because I don't fit the stereotypical idea of a good customer.

I totally agree we black people must handle situation like these sensible by letting the store clerk or whosoever that what they are doing is wrong and then leave the store. And then proceed to contact a lawyer and fight that battle in court if possible because immediate confrontation will never be successful when all odds is against you as a black person. Fight your battle in court. 😎💯💪🏾👍🏾

"My white acquaintance in the late 80s, who worked at SEARS in Coral Gables in the sporting goods department, instructed his black friends to enter the store in front so that the surveillance cameras would focus on us and draw attention away from them and others (whites)." It was SEARS' policy to follow every black customer who stepped inside the store, and the white employees took full advantage of this by stealing and having their "white" friends come in at a particular time. Staff from the women's undergarment and shoe departments, including a manager, were involved in these plots. LOL All we had to do was roam the store for twenty to thirty minutes, occupying the security cameras, while the robbers, aided by the staff, were stealing merchandise right under our noses. I tell the story because of the statute of limitations is up. LOL

Whenever I get Security following me or a Salesperson, I put their @sses to work for me! I pick out the product and tell them to hold it and follow me everywhere as I shop and I take my dayum time. I talk to them the whole time and ask for suggestions; because they can't accuse of me stealing something when they are the ones holding the product the entire time. This is how rich people shop, they never carry anything! And That's how you handle this problem.

It’s so annoying! Just last week I experienced being followed. I got fed up and went to the same aisle as of the person that was following me. As I got closer he became uncomfortable, I then asked do you work here to which he replied stammeringly, “No.” I could tell he was lying, I continued browsing in disgust. He never purchased anything and I left. One love ✊🏿❤️🖤💚

Good point "do not to escalate the situation"! As a shop-a-holic I have gotten followed by security when I have merch draped over my arms and in my hands and am still shopping when I can barely move. They really get the jitters when you are anywhere near a door! I could be holding 10 hangers of clothes, accessories, shoes and a purse and not look like I am checking out soon so I get that I look like I am up to something. When I go through the register they are probably making sure I paid for the items they saw me handle. We have to face it, stores are robbed in the same manner we shop sans the payment part as criminals try to blend in as shoppers, so we all are going to appear to be suspect at times. However, I have never been pulled into some room or accused of wrongdoing so I have to ask, what makes them stop before they go too far with me? Are they are giving me a pass for being white, female or did I not escalate the situation by just doing my thing without being uncomfortable being watched? I am aware when I am watched, I am female and always on guard so I am watching too!

Back in the 90s I frequented a particular department store in the mall and security would follow me. Since they didn't have buggies i had him carry all my stuff. When he stopped I through a fit because I had to carry my own stuff. Few weeks later they had a black security officer. He acted like he wasn't going to carry my things so I told him he couldn't follow me around.

Neither is right and unfortunately no one is protected when messages in advertisements, news stories depict racist mindsets that black people can not be wrong for their belief but growth and education can do much to respect others who are different by continuing Social Studies in our schools and including world history to understand the value all of us have in a society that is diverse.

In the 1960s there was an independently owned high end department store downtown. Every time I went into that store, either by myself or with friends, we were watched by the sales staff, who were grumpy old ladies. If we wanted to get some assistance from a sales lady, we would have to search to find them. However, sometimes they weren't quick enough to hid their spying on us. Since our high school was also downtown and we took the city bus to and from, it was much easier to shop after school let out. I hated that store, but it was the ONLY place in town to get things like the long ladies gloves that we all wore to the prom. I remember when I went into the store to purchase gloves, I was dreading dealing with one of the old lady spies. But much to my surprise, it was a young woman who couldn't have been much older than I was. She was very helpful, allowing me to try on different gloves to see which ones would work best with my prom dress. Bought them and left the store feeling like a hundred bucks! By the way, I'm white.

When this would happen to my mother and I when I was a girl, she would always address them and say, “I see you following me and I do not appreciate it” and keep on shopping. They would always back off. You don’t have to not say anything. Sometimes I will follow them around if I have the energy 😂. They’ll catch me right on their heels. They always back off. It’s work being black and it’s not fair but I’m not staying in a little corner as if I can’t shop where I want. You can say don’t go to these stores but it’s everywhere. Our ancestors fought for us to have the right. I’m just saying this because the only advice that was given was to go to court and most people simply can’t do that. We will end up right back in Jim Crow if we act scared. That guy should sue if he’s financially able.

Being short, i couldn't reach it. So i turned and spoke loudly to him, saying, " If you insist on following me, at least be helpful and get the item down." He laughed, got my item and left me alone.
