I am so envious of the yarn choices you have available locally! In the US, almost all yarn stores cater to only knitters. For my own carpet weaving, I have to do my best with wools that aren’t really meant for pile weaving. You are so fortunate in this respect!

We are the country of carpet making, it's taught in university and social services, so yes, it is widely available in areas, where are many weavers and tourists. But this time there was not that many colors to choose from, usually it's better in autumn, when academic year starts and not so hot to weave. By the way, you can use two ply semiwool, many weavers use it to substitute rare colos, that go as accents, since it slightly stands out from wool texture. But if everything is made of the same yarn, it should not make a difference, especially if the carpet will ac as a wall decoration, not on the floor. For floor it has to be heavy duty wool.

"Yarn paradise" and "cave of treasures" - indeed! It looks like a fun way to spend an afternoon.
