Shopnotes Shopvac Cart + Oneida Dust Deputy

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

I purchased the Dust Deputy by Oneida Systems. It's incredibly effective in doing it's job. I decided to make a cart and I followed the Shopnotes plans in issue#109. I'm very happy with it and highly recommend you build it! I made some slight modifications to the original plans to accommodate my shop vac size and hose accessories. Great video! It's always fun watching reader's build the projects we work so hard to design. If people are looking for detailed plans for this project, they can find them here: www.woodsmithplans.com/plan/shop-vacuum/

I like that design. Hose down low making it less tipsy. 👍 I bought the Dust Deputy just got to get around to building a cart like this.

Loved your comment about high tech. Just like I do, you find a way to use what you have, even if it is using two screws for your stops.

This came out really nice. I wish I had the room to wheel one of these around to each station. I'll end up going with the Harbor Freight 2hp Dust collector that will be in a "closet" behind the shop along with the compressor. And congrats on the weight loss!! From personal experience, it's not easy, so stick with whatever you are doing.

Good job on the video. Enjoyed it. I am installing 2 of these. One for a 4" 1 hp bag filter unit and one for the 2" shop vac. I am using a FAST CAP hose reel with a 25' pool hose on it. Tired of cleaning up the shop vac filter and the mess of it. Good job on your build. I like this cart as well. Yet my system is fixed with the 25' hose on a reel.

Great video! One question about the construction - I notice a lot of screws going into plywood end grain. Any reason you couldn’t/didn’t use pocket screws here for a stronger joint?

Ok no problem. There are a couple of other Shopnotes Dust Deputy Cart builds on youtube and they're all built the same way (as the plans call for). I'm new to this too, and am about to start my build. Was thinking about using pocket screws rather than going into the end grain (except maybe for the 3-inch'ers going into the tall piece from the bottom..). Anyhow, keep it up and thanks for the video, will help me get mine done!

I'm glad it can help. I have no issues with it being loose or coming apart. I didn't even use glue on the joints. Just the hose holder wrap. You may want to use glue if you are concerned. Cheers!

One more question - at 20:24 it looks like you’re using hex bolts rather than screws to install the casters. Can you let me know what hardware that is? The plan calls for #8 x 5/8” wood screws, but that seems way too small for my 3” casters (the mounting plate has large holes). Your bolts look more suitable.

Yes sir! I ran into the same problem. Went to Orchard Supply and bought (1) package of #14 x 3/4" Hex Washer Screws and (16) Cut Washer Zn 1/4-In . Hope this helps.
