Shop With Me in Florida for the Antiques & Vintage the Resellers Missed!

People come in droves to the thrice-annual Renninger’s Mount Dora Antique Extravaganzas in Florida! Even as they comb through the pavilions and fields full of outdoor dealers, there’s a treasure trove right there that many of them miss…the year-round Renninger’s Antique Center!
This collective of individually run mini-stores of quality and a well-staffed consignments & showcase area make it Florida’s largest antique and vintage mall! Dealers with up to a half-century of experience have a really well rounded inventory, from distinctive lighting and home furnishings to an art deco font and some cute, fun, vintage American ceramic figures.
Provenance is everything, and one dealer tells us why her Pass Over cabinet was the only safe place for escaped slaves to hide in 1850s Vermont. (My family had one in Michigan.) Meanwhile, a 1960s Japanese toy makes a cringeworthy marketing mistake that had to have hurt sales (and a few feelings).
There’s a surprising amount of superlative items in the mall (see below), but plenty for collectors to buy (and a few items for me as a dealer in the field outside!). A mini haul video wraps up a fun morning spent shopping and showing off some of the notable parts we had time to see.
I hope my review of this high-quality antique co-op mall helps you learn more about antique and vintage items, inspires your own collecting and educates you about what I see as a vintage shopper! I’m excited to share my real world vintage encounters with the online community, I love sharing our passion and hope we all help each other with our antique education.
Here’s some more highlighted show items:
Victorian shawl, pickled bamboo furniture, Victrolas, chandeliers, Hall teapots, light up tavern beer sign, Fratelli Toso studio glass, Uranium glass, 1950s salt and peppers, Nagel and Erte prints, Coors Pottery, Royal Dux porcelain, souvenir mugs, hourglass, Chalet Glass, 1970s chrome furniture, Flash-Vue cookie jar, Studebaker pedal car, Firestone shop sign, Breyer Animals, vintage Christmas, Esco statues, vintage office furniture, 1970s fringed coat, Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, huge Lladro boat, watch and clock repair, farm primitives, Kay Finch, Weil Ware, Howard Pierce, etc.

    This place is great, I love it. I liked the uranium vases quite a bit, I find it interesting that in today's world everyone is crying about the lead in the paint, uranium in the kitchen wares and how bad it is for their health. But as a child of the 60's I grew up with all that stuff and survived drinking out of the hose in the yard. lol. Thanks for sharing and have a great day

    My high school parking lot in 1970 actually had a couple of student driven Studebakers and yes, Karmann Ghias, Nash, Ramblers, and the Classic VWs. It wasn’t about being classic car driven, it was about affordability and easy to work on and keep on the road. My 65’ Chevy Bel Air cost $500, much less than the insurance for a male teenage driver’s yearly premium.

    Paisley shawls are interesting They were wool shawls produced in and around the town of Paisley in Scotland and then the Indian export market started up (part of the British Empire) They copied the designs and produced things much more cheaply, basically undercutting the work produced in Paisley causing severe unemployment . Queen Victoria was touched by the plight of the Paisley workers and showed her support by always wearing Paisley produced shawls - and so of course they became popular and highly fashionable

    That's great information! I love sharing my knowledge because it encourages people like you to teach me more. This was an explanation of the popularity of Paisley shawls I never had heard but will commit to memory.

  • @lynnedelacy2841

    @lynnedelacy2841

    To elaborate slightly, the motif did come from Iran originally and exports to the U.K. with the design came to the U.K. from Kashmir of high quality shawls, but the weavers in Paisley caught on to the design and individual weavers in their homes started producing shawls initially. As demand increased they banded together to improve production and shawls were produced there for approx 50 years. Some say that there were many reasons for the demise of the popularity of the design. Cheap imports of cotton rather than wool shawls, the Franco Prussian war interrupted imports from Kashmir , and that fashions changed and that it didn’t drape as well over a bussell. But the documentary I saw dealt with cheap imports and Victoria’s support

I choose to go to antique malls where many are willing to give you a discount if you are a repeat customer. The great finds are now at the antique malls or large antique stores.

    Prices can fluctuate between similar items because of minor differences that might be hard to tell without study. We had an estate sale with a book that in blue cover was worth $10 but in orange $500, for example. It can also be that circumstances were different, I sold a Treasure Craft pitcher once for $140 that usually only goes for $50 on eBay, just because two people needed it in time for Thanksgiving. The next week, the next one sold for $51 again.
