    I very much appreciate the product demonstrations..very straight forward and easy to follow . Suffice it to say I was pretty much doing everything wrong from beginning to end. What really stands out to me is how very little of the sealer and polish are required..lets just say that even though I felt like I was using both sparingly I unknowingly have been attempting to drown the blanks lol. Personally I vote affirmative for more product demonstrations and I think it would be welcomed by more. There are endless listings for the application of CA glue, of which I am thankful they were there but not many, at least that I've come across that demonstrated the other necessities in detail as you did.

    Glad you liked it, thanks for the feedback. Most of all, I'm glad it helped! I'll do a review on the GloBoost here soon, it is by far my favorite CA Glue based product in a while. I'll do an in depth tips, tricks, and things to be cautious of like I did in this one. Take care man, Happy Turning!

    @@TheTacticalPainter Used the full set up like you along with Denatured alcohol Mylands sealer and High friction polish. I get a very nice high gloss shine using small amount like you were referring to,but I still get these shiny ring appearances along the piece that totally ruins the look. Am applying the polish to a bottle stopper. Tried running high and low speeds on the lathe. Tried applying more pressure while moving left to right and I can see the polish moving around,but can't simply buff the rings in to create that perfect gloss shine. I have used both blue shop towels and Bounty paper towels to apply. Anything else I might be doing wrong? I sand my project 120,180,240,320,400 grits. Thanks

    Thanks much, I am trying to improve my friction polish game and picked up a bottle of mylands to try. Question though, what exactly does the sanding sealer do?

  • @TheTacticalPainter

    @TheTacticalPainter

    Жыл бұрын

    Sand sealer seals up the pours of the wood as a pre step before the polish. Like putting on a primer coat before spray painting. The polish compound works best if it isn't absorbed into the wood and just stays at the surface.

    @@TheTacticalPainter I was in my local Rockler to get Mylands and saw the sanding sealer next to it. It sounds like if I want to up my friction polish game I should go get the sanding sealer too. Thanks so much for getting back to me so quickly!

    @@kennethdalenberg9267 you're very welcome. I used to struggle with friction polish. The sanding sealer was a huge leap forward in my success rates.

    @@TheTacticalPainter Having done my share of painting your analogy is perfect. I do ok with matte finish but trying some glossy stuff hasn't worked at all for me. I'm going to order some sealer from Rockler and can't wait to try it.

    I'm curious about denatured alcohol versus rubbing or isopropyl alcohol?

  • @TheTacticalPainter

    @TheTacticalPainter

    4 жыл бұрын

    Rubbing/Isopropyl has water in it, the % you see on the bottle is alcohol and the remaining is water (usually 70% iso & 30% water), which will remain in the wood requiring you too redry if you're casting. DNA is straight alcohol and evaporates rapidly and cleans better than iso because it's a stronger solvent. Some will use acetone, I don't because acetone when it dries leaves a film/residue behind, whereas DNA doesn't. Hope this helps

    Why didn’t you sand after applying the sanding sealer?

  • @TheTacticalPainter

    @TheTacticalPainter

    4 жыл бұрын

    Never really saw the need to, I applied the sand sealer mostly as a protective coating. I now use GluBoost CA Finish exclusively for my pens. I found on testing that the sand sealer and wax coatings were inadequate finishes in the long run for an EDC pen.

    Moderately, I recommend Hut Ultra Gloss for resin. It's one of the best products our their that I've found for consistent results.
