If I were you I wouldn't be stressed out about your light and boom being in the wide frame.. just take the stands and everything on the way that they don't cover windows(cuz there the light might change) but otherwise would just move the Key light way closer, so you get more exposure on talent and can lower the background expo. and just take a clean slate without anything in the frame.. since its a locked on shot and your subject does not move its easy to just use the "still empty frame" and remove your lights and stands in post. took me few shoots and headaches to learn this trick, but ever since my setups are way faster and final work way better. also its a 2 min fix in post so well worth it in my opinion. Also having a 90-120 cm soft box is a game changer compared to the smaller ones (small investment and not much more space when folded)

@@lensofjared Happy I could help, keep up the good content! hopefully it will help many others aswell. When I resized this technique I had this "duuuhhh" moment, such an easy trick and yet didn't see many people showing/teaching it on KZread.

Bro you killed this! Cranky cameraman does this technique where he uses a couple of small light stands and raises the large 5 in 1 reflector with the black side down over the interviewees head. But if you go too wide, it’s not going to make too much of a difference.

The Olana! Actually shot there two weeks ago, it's a gorgeous venue. I think you did great considering the circumstances, I always find myself taking more time to setup my interviews when I dont have a physical subject there cause then you don't know how much output you need to expose for skin and windows. Since you have that silk have you ever tried just firing both of your lights bare bulb through that silk to give enough output to expose for the windows? Could have helped you in that situation. The 600X yes you will struggle a bit with windows but in my experience the 600D will give you enough extra light to give me exposure for indoors and outdoors. Also what I've done in a pinch is take off some of the diffusion from the softbox, not sure how the lightdome mini works but the lightdome ii has 2 layers of diffusion and I just take off the big first layer of diffusion as my last option if nothing else works. For diffusion/negative fill have you considered just getting a couple 5-in-one reflectors? super versatile and they fold up and take little space thats like my secret weapon I use in my interviews, just used one for a good effect on this 3 day gig I just did in Houston. As always great vlog Jared!

    1. Thanks for always watching! 2. Love the tips you gave here. I think I will try the open bulb idea next time, the silk is def big enough!

You can set the Artemis pro have an avatar in the picture , its handy for deciding where to set up your shot , as you can see whats going to be covered over by the person in position .

@@lensofjared I always do this for interviews. I have a man (can be a women ) from the sitting person avatar list. You can move them around the frame and make them bigger and smaller , you can look down or below or level with finger movements . I didnt bother at first but then found that things I wanted in frame would be blocked by the actual subject ,it's very hard to visualize this with just any empty frame. Apparently there is major up grade for this app coming too.

These frames look amazing. Your client should be extremely happy. I understand the struggle of a one man band but this should have had a PA on it. Even a PA with no technical knowledge so you could have them sit in for the lighting. I know budgets are firm but you probably have people asking you to help out on gigs, this is great scenario for that. Your lighting seems to be drastically improving!!

It would've relieved some stress for sure! It was super last minute that it would just be me. I honestly REALLY enjoyed the ability to craft the scene without someone there. It was a cool exercise to really test what I learned! Thank you, really trying to master it so I can increase my skills as a DP.

Your 600x is bi colour. You could have match the colour of the lights and then changed to white balance in camera to make them look like 5600.
