LOVE the photo of dude doing the puzzle but looking at that and thinking like wow, I would love to feel safe enough to where i have my garage open and I’m doing a puzzle with my back towards the street. What a vibe

Yo I was honestly thinking the same thing. It’s such an interesting moment because of that reason. I live in New York and I would never give my back towards the unknown like that, but it’s nice to see that gentleman have the courage/comfort to do that.

Makes me feel sad that you wouldn't feel safe to sit in your garage like that :(
I’m an urban forester and live in the heart of LA. My job consists of walking around neighborhoods all over the city to inspect trees. You’re completely right, LA is not a pedestrian friendly city, but my job has made me fall in love with walking around random neighborhoods. I’ve thought about bringing my film camera around with me a couple times and this definitely inspires me to go for it.
your rollnotes series always gets me so inspired to get out and shoot 📸 thank you!! also waiting on your book to come out!

The second shot of the man doing the puzzle was fantastic. Wonderful work.
This is by far my favorite roll notes video. It really made me miss having access to a darkroom and watching your prints come to life in front of you. You are such an inspiration, keep up what you are doing, its is seriously amazing.
Always love the roll notes series my dude. Much love from a fellow LA Creative❤️
This is personally my favorite video of yours, i like the calmness of it. Love that it's purely about taking photos, not about gear. Hope you make some more video's of belgium which is also my homecountry.
My god, Willem. This really feels like the quintessential Roll Notes. Just a great episode, bud.
Man’ I love this video and the process of it all. I just feel so at ease and at peace with this. And the idea of how you made the print is just amazing. Especially with the step by step process
prob my fav episode ever! The peacefulness of the walk and the calm concentration of the printing just went together so well... And I also looove that photo of the guy puzzling - I actually prefer the first one :D
this episode was seriously so mesmerizing :,) every time you post it makes me want to go out and create. great work ♥️
i love this series so much. your videos have such a cinematic value that is so rare to find here. its clear that you put so much time and care into each video. your work inspires me so much and i cant wait to see more!!
Willem, I love how this video silently expresses the beauty of the creative process itself. The b roll shots, the music and your narration... while reflecting on my own creative processes, this all moved me to tears.
SOOO GOOOD! Always good to see what you're up too!
Really enjoyed this one Willem! Nice chilled out vibe to the whole vid and the print process was really interesting as I will be moving onto that myself soon
This series is by far your best quality content and keeps getting better. Always inspires me to go out and shoot! thanks, Willem
Totally mesmerizing!!! Can't get enough of 'Roll Notes'. Every time I get notified about your new video, I wait until the night so I can watch it before going to sleep, being inspired. I wish it was longer. Keep up! Kinda dreaming of living in LA one day.
Willem blessed us with this christmas gift, thank you for sharing your beautiful work and talent.
Lovely photos!! It's nice to be able to ask strangers for photos and getting positive response back!!
Another great video Willem. I find I notice more when I'm walking around the old town where I live in SW France with a camera in my bag. Just shooting photos of the neighbourhoods where I live it is so enjoyable.
Love this shoot. If you were to print and post the print to the guy completing the puzzle you would probably make his day ♥️
I can so much relate! I love walking around anyplace, expecially someplace a bit new to me, and just taking in everyting that I see. Maybe it's something about us growing up in the NJ/NY area, where everybody walks all the time? It was so different than most of California, but just like in this video, if I just open my eyes, there are cool places to walk nearly everyplace. Merry Christmas, Willem!
This may be my favorite video youve made so far. When i was first getting into photography, someone gave me an entire darkroom set up, and sadly, i had no room for it and had to give it away. Oh what i would give to have that back today. Beautiful prints Willem.
Really enjoyed the darkroom printing segment of the vid Willem! Something about the old dials and the gauges get me 🤤
BoR! That contact sheet of the tree in the mist at 7:21 looks amazing, can’t wait to see the whole body of your new work!
Really love this series! Always so calming to watch!
This video has inspired me to go outside and shoot again. Thank you for taking us on a walk with you. You have such a great perspective and I love your work and videos.
I really can't describe the emotions that I get when viewing your photos but that's something I will try to recreate in my own work, thanks for all the inspiration
Stunnin photos and i love how your process has become completely analog
Both the video and photos beautifully emphasize the golden light. This was very relaxing, and the music strongly contributed to that feel. Very nice all around.
What a great video, amazing quality, and beautiful images. Thank you so much for sharing your process 😊
the golden colors on the prints are so refreshing.
Thank you so much for showing the process of scanning the film. It's so interesting and I learn so much from your thought process❤
I love how the window framed the man doing the puzzles.
I love your videos SO much!! So peaceful and beautifully produced. It does make me giggle thinking about you walking back and forth picking up and putting down your tripod to get the shots of you walking past hehe

Looool it’s exactly what you would imagine
having lived in the midwest, east coast & west coast.... LA hands down has some of the best light i've ever seen
Beautiful video. Loved how you filmed the dark room section at the end.
Your videos are just so therapeutic
cant wait for another video, always waiting
Awesome video as always dude! The darkroom printing is very interesting! I haven’t done any darkroom printing since high school. And I LOVE the shot of the guy doing the puzzle!
This series is SO good man!
Really enjoyed this video. You created a thoughtful and creative atmosphere. The music fits perfectly. Thanks for the video.
I'll be flying to LA next week to go on exchange for six months (my first time in the US!) and I'm really excited to go around exploring and wander around the city and its different neighborhoods on foot and by bike as I don't have a driver's license. I definitely agree that going on photo walks by foot makes you slow down and register smaller details and things that might take a second glance to notice than if you were driving through an area. I also really appreciate how photographing on foot makes me feel very present with my surroundings :) I've been enjoying following along other photographers' processes through videos like these - really like the calmness of the shot at 2:49!
Loving this series 🤌🏻
Enjoying this series. Really inspiring.
I flippin LOVE that shot of the man and the puzzle in his garage... mannnnn 😮💨
I feel so good when watching your videos. Everytime you post i'm like "ok, now it is time to grab a coffe, sit down and relax"
Excellent as always Willem. Top notch.
LA is a dream to wander around and take photos especially at golden hour . Love the photos!
i am extremely impressed by how you've walked so much of LA in vans. love the series.
Those contact sheets are just amazing to look at
This is my favorite channel on KZread no doubt. You inspire me so much.
wow wow wow this youtube video is better than a lot of movies I have seen! every frame is a handcrafted photo and even the way you share your process is engaging. definitely not something just to watch in the background and can learn so much from this!!
Love the Puzzler photo! Great capture!
BEST ROLL NOTES EPISODE so far
Thank you for sharing such nice story about film photography.Merry Christmas, 🎄 🎄 🎄 although I was late. Anyway, happy holidays. Very enjoyed your video.
Loving this dude. 🙌🏻🙌🏻🙌🏻
Love your videos and images Willem. Photos from California and the surrounding area are always my fav, the light there always seems to be so golden. It blows my mind watching guys like you and Sam and listening how you talk about photography with such calmness and wisdom and I can sense how much its in your soul. It's refreshing and inspiring. It makes me want to live in California. People are just not like this where I live in the UK. People often either look at me like I'm crazy or want to mug me if they see me out with my camera.

The light in all of the western states, IMO, is great. I get back east and it so often seems flat. I've gotten some great shots back east, but it takes a bit more patience.
Thank you for another great video!
absolutely mesmerizing Willem ! Will you show us how you do your contact sheet from your negatives ? would be amazing !
loved seeing the process !!!
All of your videos are very inspirational, I am so pleased that I found your channel. Best wishes..David in the UK.
Wow Willem you are not just a great photographer but a great story teller. You've made this seemingly simple video of you walking around and then darkroom printing into a short film. Love all the details - the closeup shots, the sounds (the added sounds from the city while you walk around which seamlessly fade out when you show the photograph). Amazing overall production and again some really inspiring work from you!

Beautiful visuals as always
Puzzle Guy is the gem in this series. Really like that shot and it makes me wonder about him, and why puzzles in the garage.
Fire video Willem 🔥
i never comment on videos but man this video was beautiful. its not only the actual photography that you just master but the videography as well. crafted beautifully. well done. keep it up brother
Neat. You’re shooting in my neighborhood! It’s interesting to see it through another person’s eyes.
These pictures feel like a dream
Lots of good 'walking by the camera' clips in this one!
i really like the cinematography on this one
Man watching you operate the darkroom machinery is just so satisfying it must be a joy to see your images after using it.
just got into darkroom printing, it was really cool how you showed the iterations of making a print
... I can not thank you enough for posting this you save me every time
Your videos are so soothing🙌
the cinematography of this video is immaculate
that tree in that half blue half orange is unmatched
Very interesting. Love following this.
Thank you to do what you do 🙏
Amazing episode.
keep these videos coming!!
Willem, can I plz come to LA and spend a day taking film photos with you 😁
woah the ones of the trees at 7:21 are magical
That's a really good video! Thanks!
Best video so far
Wow such a nice video this is, really nice!!
Hi Willem, sorry for my English, I'm italian 😅 I'm a pretty recent subscriber to your channel because I started only about a year ago to shoot with a film camera so I want to know more and learn more about photography (because I'm not a photographer). I just wanted to tell you that I LOVE not only your pictures but especially your videos. I love your style of taking videos because when I watch them they relax me (it's almost like they're taking me to another planet where the time is slower). So keep going with your channel and your style 😊👍
such a good episode
Inspired to do vlogs related to Films because of your videos. Keep inspiring others.
Walks out in Cali have been hittin different lately. Especially when the sun comes out after some rain.
i miss dark room printing so much when i used to do it at school, the results are just incredible

what a nice video Willem
I do the same in Seattle. Minus the warm sun light. LOL.
Love this !!! Also what was the short piano excerpt ? I loved it !!
Seeing the California light in these videos really makes me want to move there, greetings from gray Germany lol
Always love your Roll Notes of walking so inspiring but I could not do myself as I live in Thailand because in the country every house has a dog and they are so aggressive lol BUT everytime I go aboard I always walk and walk and walk like you so happy :)
