I think this is the highest praise Penn could give to a non-fooler. The trick is just sleight of hand, so I'm not surprised they weren't fooled, but Penn did say it was some of the best sleight of hand in the world, and I couldn't agree more. I was certainly fooled, and also amazed by the sheer level of skill! This was absolutely fantastic!!! 🤩🤩🤩

Question if they know how a trick is done but did not see it done dose that count as a fool or no to you. I mean there might be with some tricks with only 1 way to do it so they could say we know how that's done. But you could do it that way so well they never saw you do anything so would you class that a foo yourselfl or no ? @@georgeman5284 And this is something which is evolving in this program. Because sometimes it was like that they need to know and only know how effect is done.. and there was one time when they said that they need to also notice this move.. I think that simply they have more magicians which simply are the best in the industry so they had to simply raise bar a little.. Because it's really hard to take fooller who use classic magic and simply master it vs fooler who design new trick.

There's a certain irony on Fool Us that often the very best magicians in the world don't win a trophy. Shoot Ogawa does so much more than is shown here, and it all looks amazing and flawless. He is one of my favorite magicians of all time.

This is probably my biggest complaint; Fool Us isn't really about Penn and Teller being fooled, it's about introducing the world to the next generation of great magicians and giving them a chance to be known. It also gives an opportunity for new magic to be innovated. But often the people who get the trophy aren't really either and those who satisfy one or both don't get the trophy. They messed up going with the snazzy, snappy "Fool Us" FU gimmick and should've made it the "Amaze Us" trophy.

@@horusschnopp1882 I partially agree with you. Sometimes the foolers simply managed a gimmicked version of an old illusion, or manage to get Pen & Teller to guess incorrectly at which point the "trick" occurred in an act. However, occasionally some magicians do present things that I think are very original and unconventional. I think that was the original aim of the show. Not to increase the standard by which a trick is performed, but to get magicians to come up with new and interesting ways to carry on magic. This is why, although he is amazing in the true sense of the word, Shoot did not win a Fool Us trophy.

I was never that crazy about the Portable Hole/Invisible Purse thing, and definitely not a fan of Roth's fast-moving, faster-talking presentation. (Credit where it's due, he was a pioneer for sure.) It was a small gathering of us, an impromptu show he was using as a sort of rehearsal to perfect material for the upcoming FISM competition. I have never seen such gorgeous, flawless sleight-of-hand in person. He has such a warm, humble demeanor too that just takes you in during the performance. This act was beautiful and one of my favorite Fool Us moments.

2:54 I repeated that single second about 25 to 30 times, in slow motion, on big screen, without sound, you name it, and I still have absolutely no clue what happened. Your work is breathtaking, sir.

If you want to know how it's done, I'll tell you. He has tapped into the dark realm and summoned the dark over-lord. He's been given the black arts and he opens an interdimensional portal where he places the coin. Legend has it that everytime he performs this trick, he gains 300xp.

He did a sleight of hand to create the effect of the coin dropping from the purse. Anyone trained in coin magic would recognize the classic technique, along with all of his other techniques. The real artistry here is that despite all of his moves being well-known, none of them had any tell. I was only able to deduce what he did after seeing the effects and combining that with my prior knowledge in coin magic. I'm sure that's also how Penn and Teller were able to not be fooled.

Yeah, i understand that this did not fool them.... just sleight of hand.... but damn that was some stellar sleight of hand. I absolutely love minimalistic magic like this. A few "simple" props and then the real magic begins. A truly stellar performance.

With the benefit of frame-by-frame control on KZread, I saw how he did a couple of the moves. You can see if you advance frame-by-frame how he "drops" the coin from the top hand to the bottom hand at around 2:54, and if you watch Shoot at around 4:05, you can see where the big coin comes from, but to pull those moves off as seemlessly as he does requires an incredible amount of skill and control. I don't think he ever thought he was going to fool them with Teller in front of him, but he is an absolutely incredible performer.
