Shoma Uno Bolero Olympics Program FS Layout 🇯🇵 宇野昌磨

Спорт

Hate or love, Shoma Uno is skating to the iconic Bolero for the Olympics Season. We haven’t seen a 4-3 combo and 4 Loop from him in ages. I'm pretty sure he will adjust the full combo backloading layout throughout the season, and I am quite excited to see this program choreographed by Stéphane Lambiel.

He brings back 4Lo just in time for Olympic season, just as like in 2018. However, him planning for 5 quads program brings me anxiety already. Love him for his skating but for jumps not so much. Hope he can nail all that combo on the 2nd half because it's risky.

He looks great. He looks like he is using the Midori Ito technique on his triple axle. Some try to skid the entrance, but that is actually counterproductive. Midori simply and literally hurled herself into the air, at blinding speed at that, which gave her the extra air time. That's what that clean take off does ... it you're brave enough to go for it ... it thrusts you through the air, allowing for more hang time and DISTANCE, all needed for rotation. Look at Kosternia, also using a very Midori-Ito like technique. And look how beautiful her triple axel is. Arguably the best in the world (man or woman)! Now, look at Trusova. While she takes off on a clean edge, she struggles because her entrance curve is entirely too hooked. It's almost like she's jumping around a corner instead of straight ahead. She's trying to make it happen, instead of letting the jump happen for itself. Granted, getting it right takes time, and some hard falls, not something Trusova can afford at the moment. But if she can get over that fear, she should allow the jump to follow the flight path and trajectory used Shomo, Kosternia, and particularly the one used by Midori Ito. Ito's triple axel was not just good, it was spectacular! Shomo's triple axel doesn't have the same wow factor, but it is elegant and still worthy of any Olympic gold medal.

Thanks for pointing this out. Just a fun fact Midori Ito, Mao Asada and Shoma Uno studied under the same coach. Shoma struggled for a long time before he got his 3A and its Mao who describe to Shoma how to jump 3A. I think Midori style that fits him well.

180 degrees pre-rotation on any non axel jump is allowed, it has draw backs when completely a Flip and a Lutz as it means you cannot use it as a “speed bump” which generates significantly more height vs this method which generates greater rotation at loss of height. This method is taught to pretty much all female skaters bar incredibly athletic ones who lean towards a power take off as they can make better use of rotation due to their smaller sizes.

Shoma has never been able to land five quads in the free, the last time he did four quads in his free skate was in 2017 and it was around that time when he was in best shape, since then he wasn't able to bring that level. In recent seasons, usually he lands 2 or max. 3 quads in his free skate, but it also happened many times that he only managed to jump one quad. How does he think it is a good idea to go for 5 quads?

He did this since the 2017-2018 season. Not landing 5 quads in all comps if ever probably, but the combos in the 2nd half is hardly the problem.

@@KseniaSemenovaFan looking at his most successful performances from each season, he backloaded: 2017/2018: 4T-2T, 3A-Eu-3F 2018/2019: 3A-Eu-3F, 3S-3T 2019/2020: 4T-2T, 3A-Eu-3F(only two combos performed) 2020/2021: 4T-2T, 3A-Eu-3F, 3S-3T so I'd say he's not really all of that and bag of chips when it comes to fully backloading combinations. not to say Shoma barely lands that 4T-3T, I understand how he's trying to squeeze out every single possible point and he's not in as comfortable position as he was in 2018, but this layout is REALLY risky. even Eteri's students don't push every single combo in the second half because how costly missing it will be. of course, maybe something has changed when it comes to Shoma's jumps and his consistency, but I'll remain sceptical.

  • @yohanes2034

@@hannibaljustincase9985 problem with his jump is that he could not check out and get good enough flow for the next 3 jumps. I think he rarely nailed 4T-3T, even in SP he missed it most of the time (doing 2T instead). IMO if he wants to try 5 quads layout, the 4T-3T combo needs to happen in the 1st half so that if he misses it he has another go. Usually his hugely prerotated 4F is consistent, so he could put it in the 2nd half instead and move the 4T-3T after the 4Lo & 4S.

He has really weird technique by having really low arms before take off and he is always swingy on his landings. He looks like he’s trying to get rotation by swinging himself. He is still a great skater and I respect him a lot but I don’t like his technique.
