I think it is so being obsessed about because it shows what a skater's technique worth in depth. Like if you want to see what a ballerina worth check her in Swan Lake. There's nothing to hide behind.

The reason I think is because skaters who master the textbook technique are rare breed nowadays. Plus ISU refusal to acknowledge good technique vs bad technique and inconsitent edge violation calls contribute to FS fandom obsession in scrutinizing lutz jump. I am one of them lol.

He has the wrong lutz technique. He places the toe at a completely straight angle (0 pre-rotation), which leads to an incorrect take-off. Therefore, it will never land steadily.

I was slightly surprised by Kevin Aymoz's lutz technique. I thought I won't be seeing picking foot axis more tilted than Yuzuru ever, his picking angle is more to the outside of rotation making it harder. The takeoff is good just the body position and landing makes his jump sometimes looks weird and not effortless. The two Italians are with the worst technique and thankfully Shoma is no longer putting lutz in his program. Han yan, Keegan, Kolyada, and Nathan are among the best. As you indicated, Kolyada's lutz is simply chef kiss.

I think Kevin and Yuma could land 4Lz too; although Yuma's lutz technique isn't the best he has a really efficient air position. Also this is the first compilation of technique comparison among male skaters I have ever seen. I feel a bit frustrated before that so many times, only female skaters got blamed for their techniques and scores. Your video shows that unfair scorings and bad techniques exist in male skating too. And we should blame the judges for not calling the edge and not following the protocols. Looking forward to your future videos! Hope to see the comparisons of different jumps, spins and step sequences.

No hate, but seriously tho, I love men's skating and have huge respect more for them because they have more value to the quality of the jumps compared to the ladies. The Russian ladies should take some pointers from Kolyada, my goodness. The 1/2 prerotation is killing me with them. Also, is Yuzuru a textbook, amazing Lutz jumper? I think he is but wouldn't want to assume. Nathan is crazy, a textbook Lutz on a Quad, no cheated takeoffs, and excessive prerotation. That's how quad jumping is, ladies should take notes.

They are amazing flip jumpers, but not on a Lutz. The quality in ladies jumps in fs has kept degrading over time. I am a fan of the girls, I wish them well and just want them to improve as a skater. I’m kinda sad that Jin Boyang couldn’t land a good 4 lutz in the competition (especially since he’s the first person to land it - if I’m not wrong 😅) Tbh every time I see lutz analysis is always for female figure skaters, and is mostly about how they did a flutz and people would complain they were overscored (especially for Russian skaters). tbf, most jumps have pre-rotation (toe jumps like the lutz, and then on salchow when the free leg is kicking through they normally jump forwards, or the quarter, same with loop. Axel can jump forwards most of the time (2a is 2 1/2...) but there CAN be pre-rotation as well but only about 1/4. so most jumps need a prerotation for them to be organized. however, like u were saying, 3/4 of a pre-rotation is too much and will must likely have a negative GOE.

Doing a 4Lz(any quad, really) takes so much more control and stamina, and the force it takes to do one can throw your technique and entire body off. Just because you can use the right take-off technique doesn't mean you'll be able to land it either. The fact that Nathan can do the _entire_ process so consistently well and effortlessly puts him on a whole different level, IMO. This is someone who has true mastery of his technicalities and the art of the quads. I'm so amazed because, in his free skate, he doesn't even break from his character(of being in a super relaxed, low energy, meditative state) to do these quads. He was so casual in his approach, as if he was doing them half-asleep. Like, _how?_ Is it really _that_ easy?

@@divinearia1601 In an interview Nathan said that when he does his routines he goes into a zen-like mode and he tunes everything out except the music. If he can truly do that then I see why he is so focused and relaxed at the same time. Let's not forget he's also actually calculating the points as he skates and he's also taking stock of how much energy he has to complete various moves. He really is from another world.

Prerotation is when you rotate on the ice before getting into the air. Nathan does not do that. He uses light toe tap and gets into the air at 1/4 mark. That's not prerotation. Turning his upper body early doesn't matter as long us his feet are in the air and not on the ice. Look at the blades, not at the upper body. Just like underrotation is when your blade touches the ice too early, prerotation is when it leaves the ice too late. Upper body doesn't matter here at all. Learn what prerotation is before making stupid comments or shitting on this excellent video whose maker put a lot of work into AND made sure to be completely objective towards all skaters.

You should be hired as the Technical Judge by the ISU. Also, shows how sloppy ISU judging is. Based on your analysis some of those skaters should have received negative GOE scores whilst others should have received higher GOE scores, but did not based solely on their lack of standing within the skating hierarchy.

If we compare the Lutz technique for everyone, then the most correct lutz are from Boyang and Chen. They have a pre-rotation less than 1/8 of a rotation BUY THE WAY WHY YOU CALL IT 1/4?! , which is ideal for jumping lutz. But only Nathan Chen today is the only one who performs this jump successfully at every major competition, so I think your question about who has the best lutz technique is strange.
