You got a lot right but one thing you seemed to have missed was the significance of that conversation between Madame Gin and Toranaga. She wasn't giving him a pep-talk because he'd given up, she was revealing she knew that his 'carelessness' in leaving his diminished army exposed and cornered wasn't unintentional, and that his army may not be as diminished as he wanted everyone to believe. And you see Toranaga rewarding her perceptiveness by granting her the districts she wanted (it happened right before Buntaro came to talk to him). Remember, the episode is called a "Stick in Time" for a reason; it's because that scene is the most important in the episode (yes, even more important than the ending).

Every character has my absolute attention, whether they're flawed or fabulous, and that's so rare in any show these days! Small but important details are sprinkled throughout this fascinating show, and so much of my enjoyment comes from trying to interpret their micro-expressions, their word selection, and the smallest gestures! A stellar production where everyone deserves the utmost praise and recognition! Great reaction, as always, sir!

Curious. I think the Madam explained the whole thing. So now Toranaga gets escorted to the gates of the VERY place he wishes to attack. I can almost guarantee there is slight of hand, and we are the ones not seeing behind the stage on this one.

This episode was crazy

Onsen's are great! They're mostly associated with inns but there are some where you can just go and spend a few hours to relax. You definitely need to visit one someday.

🙋🏾‍♀️🙋🏾‍♀️ The Madame of the brothel and Toranaga's conversation lead me to believe he planned for some of this if not all of it. Toward the end of their conversation she basically (imo) said his reputation precedes him so it doesn't make sense to her how it appears he's lost his intelligence all of a sudden (ie,him not having a thought of this possibility). I was always told by my Father watch people who are very intelligent closely their "tells " are when they all of a sudden start acting dumb, that's when you know they're up to something. That's my 2 cents for this week. I'm enjoying this series a lot!!

This show is freaking amazing

Anjin leaving the surrender is part of the plan. He's going to be the wildcard that saves Toranaga, there ain't no way he is really surrendering. Every thing he does is meant to confuse his enemies. that's how he wins.

Yeah, that Gin scene was great. I like how even when the women have lesser roles (Mariko the exception), they still have your attention when they do eventually have something perceptive to reveal.

Im sure that a reason why he slipped was because he asjusted his footing because he wanted to take his uncle's head in a single stroke. Not knowing that the story about his dad is false. Just tragic.

I like how this episode demystified Toronoga a little bit. So much myth surround him that they believed he beheaded a grown man with 1 single stroke when he was a boy. Only for it to be revealed that it took him 9 times to cut the generals head off. Some say this is a weak episode, but for me, this is a great character development for Toronaga

the end of this episode was absolutely insane his son never listened and lived in his own head why he decided to wait so long to attack we will never know

Im grasping at straws here but I feel like this episode is a total misdirect, hearkening back to the switcherooo on episode 3. like why the heck was Buntaro and Mariko asking their "Last request" to Toranaga? Especially after the reveal of the last episode, it seems dissonant. Then there's the part where Blackthorne speaks rudely to the war assembly in the end but was allowed to just walk even with his titles, probably because he is a barbarian... There must be an exit strategy, as before walking out, Blackthorne names Yabushige, and Nagakado (both trained to handle the cannon regiments). And also there's the convo with Gin. If they were really about to be wiped out, why did she make those requests, unless she knows something that everyone else don't know.

All a ruse tho. Toranaga and half brother working together. But put on the show for the spies, so when they get to osaka the gates are open to them because the regents think the brother is with them, then they turn and attack. Crimson Sky

Who got a mini heart attack when the first few seconds shouted a Toranaga victory and how it might be that the big field battle started?

Yoshii Nagakado death, was tragic and stupid and Im still fuming about it because I liked him but I think John and Toronaga have a plan. Listen to all the conversation they have. John saying why you give me these gifts but I cant serve you but he ends with a pledge of allegiance. Also that scene about what to do with Fuji and Mariko. So why would he be pissed at the end and leave. The scene with the head of the brothel. He’s considered to be a barbarian so his actions wouldn’t be under scrutiny as if it was Yabushege or Nagakado being up to something.

@@markcruz359 correct. In Japan and Korea, last names come before first names. It's also the reason why most people are referred to by their last names. You don't get to call people by their first names unless you're very close/friendly.

why do I think that Toronaga KNOWS ENGLISH? how would Blackthorne know to do what Toronaga wanted him to, unless he told him what to do? everyone else is playing checkers, while Toronaga is playing three dimensional chess... he has a second plan, and a third plan, a fourth... which makes him the perfect person to be Shogun....

@@Omn1Media Right. You have to know he’s gonna make it out and thrive based on that, and from there you can figure out these events were 80% his schemes. I don’t know. Maybe I wouldn’t have figured it out by here when I was your age. I do have what I would estimate as a decade and half of life experience on ya. I’m thrilled you’re as into it as you are and that’s certainly good enough.
