Shogi Openings: Deceiver (Mekuramashi)

An interesting opening trap by black. A medium level player is more likely to be trapped by this one.

Oh, I didn't think of that move before. P-3e! I guess that's a good countermeasure, too! Black can't attack that pawn anymore. White can make a 3rd-file rook formation later. Black even might wanna exchange the pawns by P-3f and get trapped by B-1e. :-)

That or American Mukaibisha, where you put your silver on top of your bishop and put your gold beside it under the pushed pawn to refuse bishop trade

Some of the most influential chess games ever were when players made a move to stop a threat 5-6 moves in advance...one time even 19 moves...in Shogi, it seems that's happening every time an important position arises. Of course, in Shogi notation that would be 10-12 moves and 38 moves respectively.

Crazy opening strategy here, I could have fun tricking newbies with it. Yours are the best explanations of shogi ideas in English, Hidetchi San. Thank you, sir.

I agree... I like B4d since if he still goes for the third file, black can push the pawn there with tempo attacking the rook and swing his own rook there for a counterattack... if he backs down then you can probable opt for repitition by returning your bishop to 3c as well and as white, a draw by repetition probably isn't bad.

Good video. I'm a static rook player, so maybe I'll try this sometime.

i have a question..If black tries to play B-9g,white can play pawn 9d threatening 9e letting black promote but then play B4b counterattacking and the edge file is dangerous

4:15, why not leave unpromoted and fork the golds?

It doesn't matter, B*24 forks it with the king either way, and it will be captured.
