Shoei NXR / RF 1200 helmet road test (+ Photochromic visor & Personal Fitting) | FortaMoto.com
Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары
I took the Shoei NXR (RF1200 as it's called in the USA) motorcycle helmet out for a road test for a number of weeks. This popular full face helmet by Shoei is perfect for naked bikes, touring bikes and sports bikes. The strong and lightweight outer shell will keep you safe in case of an accident, and it comes in 4 different outer shell sizes.
Apart from the helmet itself, I also tested the photochromic visor (face shield) and the long term effects of the Shoei Personal Fitting System.

Fantastic review! Thanks a lot. Greetings from Germany!
Maybe it's just me but this guy sounds like the "how it's made" narrator from discovery channel...

He definitely isn't, but I can see where you're coming from ;).
Best helmet ever!!
Just bought a NXR to replace my Neotec2. Sooo much better. Way, way better. so much lighter which means no more headaches or sore neck, (which the neotec2 did every time after about 3 hours). Less buffeting, more stable at speed. The Photo visor is great too, works a treat. Allows me to fit a Cardo Packtalk Slim, (way better than the integrated Sena unit). One of the best helmets I've had in a long time.
I'm on my 4th Shoei, and only Shoei... :)
I’m planning is to add another helmet to my Arai XD4. I’m planning for a GTair 2 , mainly for its ratchet strap. Ease of use for daily wear as I have to remove my helmet ever so often.

The GT-Air II is a great helmet! You can check out our review of it here: kzread.info/dash/bejne/fGeYk8Ofeae1k5M.html
Shoei NXR/RF1200 vs Shoei Glamster.. (Please)
Beautiful Dutch city scenes. I guess you were riding through Rotterdam.

I agree! This was actually between Amsterdam and Leiden.
Which is darker with sun, the photochromic visor or the dark smoke visor?
Thanks for this video. Any idea when the new rf1400 will be available in EU?

You’re welcome! We expect the RF-1400 (or NXR II) around the beginning of Summer.
Have u reused the pinlock from the old visor? Or need to buy new one?
Can people see you through the visor?
Is this helmet same as shoei z7?
How quickly does the photochromic turn clear? You guys are in Amsterdam, so imagine riding on the A4 and then hitting the Schiphol tunnel. Do you have to flip up the visor then or does it go clear fast enough to be safe?
@FortaMoto

It's pretty much the reverse process of darkening, so it will get lighter while you're in the tunnel - but it won't turn completely clear before you exit the tunnel. It's definitely a gradual transition, but I didn't have any trouble leaving the visor shut when I went through a couple of tunnels.

It's clear enough and tunnels are well lit so there is no issue!
What do you think the differences are between this one and GT Air 2? (Except the price)
@FortaMoto

The GT-Air II is somewhat quieter than the NXR, although the shell comes in three sizes (instead of four) and the helmet is bulkier than the NXR. Another difference would be the internal sun visor in the GT-Air II and the new Sena SRL communication unit that fits the helmet perfectly, both of those options are not present on the NXR: which is one of the reasons the helmet is so lightweight and small. Where do we find fitting in the us
@FortaMoto

You could ask Shoei USA if it is available at any dealers, but last time we checked it was only available in certain European countries.
U can only pick one - GT Air II or NXR?
@FortaMoto

Probably the NXR. The reason I'd choose the NXR is because of the weight and the aerodynamics, it feels fantastic on a naked bike.

@@doulos77 excellent choice, enjoy riding with it!
Have you ever experience the photochromic visor developing "white spots", all over the place? mine is starting to do this.. I wonder if its from bugs, i very carefully clean my visor, plush towl, let it soak in some soapy water before gently brushing / buffing it clean... Yet i am left with a visor with a ton of marks, after only 6000KM, i love the system but at that price, damn... I ride a lot, and yet my old visor lasted me roughly 2 years before it was so scuffed from rocks and other scratches that i wanted it replaced. I doubt this will last me more than a few more months before i have to ditch it.

is the photochromic visor included with the helmet or is it sold seperately

@@aggelostzinis704 Sold separately :) Btw fixed the issue with the spots, they do seem to vanish after a while.
