Shoei Neotec 2 - Upper Vent Shield - Stop the Bugs!
Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль
I lightly modify my Shoei Neotec 2 (Neotec II) helmet, to prevent bugs from entering in through the upper air vents.
Stop the bugs!
I referenced other KZread videos showing how to remove the top vent slider, while it's for the Neotec, and not the (2), this was useful... • Shoei Neotec Top Vent ... - Thanks knapdog!
FYI - the pool scoop featured in this video was one of these: (less than NZ$20 from Mitre10) - almost worth the new purchase price to get this material if you've no other options! :) www.mitre10.co.nz/shop/bestwa...

It’s mind boggling the bugs that get in this helmet. I’ve been riding for 34 years and never had a single bug until this helmet.
2 months on and I popped the top off to inspect and clean it. There was one very large bug on one side and a total of 8-9 which would have forced me to stop… so, it’s working well for me.
Great idea, thanks for making this video! I can confirm the same method works on the Neotec 3
I fully agree with you : it happens so often that I even got used to it (o_0) and I can sometime rides several kilometers with a bug searching for an exit between my skull and the helmet. The NeoTec 3 is coming, I'm pretty sure they didn't address this.... (but, they kept the idea of proprietary intercom which is stupid IMO)
Strange, that Shoei did no do it for such an expensive helmet. Will do on mine- we have really nasty bugs:) Thanks for the tip.
Yup, beasties having a donder on ma baldy heid is bloody annoying , well done Shoei ya rockets!
The bugs are definitely a problem for me, so much so that I've even considered getting a Schuberth C5 as it has some sort of filter to stop the bugs getting through. Your solution would definitely be the cheaper route 😀
Think I'm going to fit a bit of (black) bug mesh in the front -shouldn't interrupt the airflow much and easier to change/ clean when needed. Thanks for the great idea

How did this end up going? Did it work?

Yeah that was my thought stop the damn things even getting under the plate. Might cut up an old PC dust filter and give it a go.
Very helpful, thanks. I need to remove my top vent and wasn't sure how it came apart.

Great. That’s wonderful. When we post these we have a hope that at least one person might benefit from the effort! Thanks for letting me know. :)
Thanks for the video. I was about to purchase one of these but no more. You just saved me a lot of money.

According to others, it appears that in a later release Shoei may have started fitting some filter. So check in with your store before you give up on this idea. Other than this the helmet has been an excellent choice for me.

@@ChrisWiltshire I called Shoei direct and they said no they put no mess in at all.
Great Solution, thanks
I did what I was taught. Thank you.
Great video thanks, you'd think for the ridiculous price Shoei charge for these that there should be a mesh screen in there from the factory. what does your head measure and what size neotec fits you?
I wonder if you could fit some of those little screen filters in there that go in water faucets? Your idea is great though. I have a windshield on both my bikes so bugs are not a big problem for me. Great video! Thanks for sharing.
Thanks for this Video...I found "gunk" under my Neotec II. LMAO It's gone now!
I haven't had this issue, where in oz are you. I ride from northern NSW to Tassie. Plenty on the visor for sure. Love the helmet but take care removing the visor, putting it back is complicated.

In NZ - it might be my windscreen setup on my Concours 1400 pushing an unusual amount of bugs right into that position in the airflow perhaps. However it happens it was enough for me to want to take action. Those vents are wide open channels down to the inner liner.
I have a neotec 2 and live in a really bug heavy place but haven’t experienced this issue yet.. I noticed there’s filters in the intake, does yours not have any?

Maybe in the newer models they fitted a bug screen.

Any chance you could show a picture of the bug vent? The new ones for sale here in nz don't seem to have the vent you speak of
Hi Chris, did the bug guard (mesh) work? Dave

Many thanks I’ll have a go.
Couldn't you roll the mesh and then wedge it straight into the opening thus preventing bug debris under the slider. Would that work? We really shouldn't have to deal with it given the cost of the thing especially as it would have cost them next to nothing to put filters on the vents.
Ewwww I didn't expect this problem
I ´m afraid this could cause air intake restrictions, what do you think? I just bought this helmet! Thanks, Marc Quebec, Canada 🇨🇦😉🏍

Not at all
How about installing that mesh underneath the air vent inside the helmet?
@ChrisWiltshire

There are channels inside of it which make it harder to fasten it against the shell, above is a cleaner install. - (Do what you like, but it's not how I did it)
How bout an update , such a cleaning the screens out . Did the plug up fast ? Just wondering.

Sure... I've not had to do anything with this, when I checked it last it did have a surprising amount of content collected within it, but I guess I'm perhaps a little gross and I don't set aside time to regularly clean it out. It's never blocked up and the air is still flowing... The approach appears to still be working well. :)
Every ride I have bugs in my GT Air2.
